Although Z-Chain has always met S.A.E. Class “S” requirements for passenger vehicles with limited clearance around the drive tires, now the inner cross member connectors and side cable fastening system have been redesigned to operate in even smaller spaces
Their rigid inside 'hoop' has been replaced with a semi-rigid steel cable, making it possible to roll them up and store them in a much smaller space
An improved fastening system requires the outside side member to be adjusted in two places, rather than the three required on the original passenger car version of Z-Chain (and six on the original pick-up and SUV version). Construction and installation procedures are now the same for passenger cars, pick-ups, and SUVs

These cables/chains are very effective, the key is to install them correctly, I read many stories about them breaking or failing to work well.
Best to have two people, one to assist by driving, pulling forward and back as you call out when to move the vehicle and just a few feet at a time, while you apply tension to the cables, they will fit like a glove. Drove over Sierra Nevada Mountains, Hwy 50 without any incident

I have 3 sets of Peerless/SCC cables and they’ve always worked great. Purchased these for a new vehicle but unfortunately one of the cross cables broke while going down the driveway (yes on snow). Called Peerless and they are sending a replacement no questions asked, even though I purchased them several months ago. Giving benefit of the doubt it’s a defect as all my other sets still work great, so a 3 for durability since one side still works and they are sending a replacement.

Item was rated very high. I give it 4 stars only because it didn't fit. I have LT285/60R20 tires. The sheet you check your tire size says it will fit 285/60/R18 which is close. Keep reading.. the manufacturer website says it DOES fit my tire size. I bought it based on that. Got the cables. They look like they rock. Gloves, instructions, and carrying case. Good luck getting them back in after you take the cables out. Anyhow, after receiving the cables I contacted the manufacturer asking to verify if they would fit before I opened the package. They responded within a day very politely with "they should fit your tires." I replied with a thank you. Tried putting one on in my driveway before my snow trip. Cables do not fit. Too small. Hope your experience is better.

Broke after first use - correctly use

As a previous review stated, these chains broke on me after first use. I followed instructions carefully and put the chains correctly. Making sure both cables were evenly secured on both tires. Also making sure both “tire side” were correctly on each side. However, during a few miles right side of just snapped and damaged part of my vehicle (f-150) then when I proceeded to remove left side it was way to thigh and I was not able to remove it. I had to cut a few cables in order to remove them. I noticed few of the cables were stuck on the tire threads! That was weird. I did previously check the fit when first arrived so Im sure the chains where the correct size for my tires. I triple check that and did a fit check before hitting the snow.

Z-583 Cable Chains

I've been using these on my 2017 Silverado for 4 Seasons now, with 275/55R20 All Seasons, and looking forward to using them during this 5th season. They are much easier to install than the previous Super Z 6 chains I used on my '78 Sierra with winter tires for over 15 years.
I like not needing to drive over them to install. Tightening is easy enough following the instructions.
Make sure you twist/spin the blue piece to hold the loose cable end.

I bought a second set this season as I want to ensure I have what I need in case of parts failures but don't expect the first set to fail. I like spare parts on hand. Plus I can possibly use 1 chain on a front tire in case of extreme ice - haven't checked the clearance yet.

At the end of each season, I soak the chains in the laundry tub with dish soap and baking soda.
Then after washing, drying out on the floor, I spray them down with lube.
The first year I used WD40, but now I use WD40 AllPurposeLube

I keep them in a 16" plastic toolbox on the back floor

Low Clearance Traction Assistance

I have low clearance and with that in mind am quite pleased. Installing the first time was very difficult and i expect the second time should be much easier. Because they are cables and not chains, the traction is not as aggressive, but definitely makes quite a difference. The bag came torn at the seam and the company offered a $15.00 discount to have it mended. Unfortunately it is a bag that I don't believe will last long anyhow. Based on my initial experience, I would recommend them for low clearance applications.
