hello, I would like to have some feedback on these bypass kits. instead of costly repair to replace air injection pumps, etc. my situation is I cannot or will not shell out money to a dealer to replace a shoddy design by Toyota. Question is. Do these bypass kits work? here is how I got to this stage of wanting to install this kit. I have a 2010 Toyota Tundra SR5 Really like the truck. my wife has a Toyota, Daughter has a Toyota. I traded in my older Toyota on this truck which I only needed it for hauling garden material. Anyways lights came on brought to dealer. The truck was over 150000 by 78 miles so they would not help in any way. Nice. That's the short of it. I even called the corporate office the same rude response. Again nice. So do these kits work? anybody out there familiar with these kits? would appreciate some advice. Thank You, Brickman

I never tried the bypass kit but i have the dap tune and the owner told me it takes care of the injection pump issue. I think its a win win here get more peep out the truck and not worry about the pump issue down the road.

I had problems with mine as soon as I was leaving the non Toyota dealership for a test drive. Threw the code and put the truck into limp mode. Truck was 2008 with less than 45,000 miles. They supposedly fixed it, but for a peace of mind I installed one in 2016 and haven't had any issues.

IF your pumps go out, can you install the bypass kit and reset the codes and be ok? For some reason I recall that once they fail, the truck won't recover without new AIPs.

My 2008 was covered under warranty with 147k last year. The warranty is 10 year 150k. A coworker installed bypass on his 07 and it's working great. If mine ever does it again in going with a tune.

I think responded to another thread you may have commented on, but I installed the bypass kit by Hewitt Technologies last October and haven't had any issues. I was in the same boat as you. First time it was fixed under warranty, second time my mileage was under, but the 10 year mark was over by 3 months. I refused to spend $3k at the dealer for it to possibly last another few years. I researched and really liked the people at Hewitt Tech, and they were also only about 20 minutes from my house, so I went and picked it up. I spoke with them a lot in person and they really seemed to know their stuff. He continues testing on these trucks, but is also working on some of the other models as well for the bypass.

The kit is completely plug and play, and I had it installed in about 30 minutes. Basically what this kit does is keeps the factory system from turning on. The connectors are actually bypassing the AIP system, and the block off plates keep the exhaust ports closed so you don't have to actually "fix" the old problem. Overall I am very pleased so far. I figured I would spend the $350 on what mine cost to try this, but I probably would have traded my truck in had it not worked. Like others have said, I hope mine continues to work problem free from now on.

Does it work with a blown control module?

I did the Hewitt Technologies kit on my 2010 strictly proactively. It was part of my plan to start replacing anything that could leave me dead in the water if it were to fail.

I haven't had any issues, but I wasn't having any issues before either.

For me personally, the install was a pain, but it just may have had to do with the fact that my hands were too large to reach behind the engine to unplug and plug the connectors.

If I ever have to install another kit I'll probably be able to do it in half the time.

Have heard that the kits work as needed. Have also heard if done proactively then the "block off plates" are not needed due to the fail safe position of the valve; being closed. This alone should make install much easier or less labor intensive.

Dang, I didn't know about not needing the block off plates if done proactively. The plates were the hardest part of the install for me.

Will the bypass kit disengage the limp mode if already set?

Clearing the Check engine light will disengage limp mode. These kits won’t allow it to ever go into limp mode
