    Hello All,

I am looking to get a new grill surround and hood bulge that way s painted to match the body (magnetic gray) but my truck has the TSS and I like the grill center that’s in the truck already but it’s too much chrome up front. Can you get just the surround and hood bulge and then remove the existing center from the chrome and place in the new surround....or is that just too much work? 2019 Tundra Double Cab SR5

you can buy the hood bulge approx, $200. you can buy a grill with the magnetic gray surround for your truck for about $350ish

@Roman or sparksparts.com can help you

Thanks for the info...I have seen plenty of info about the bulge and grills that are paint matched but I guess you am not sure which one I need to get that will work with the TSS module....I don’t mind the Toyota round logo but kinda like Toyota letters as well but I want to keep the honeycomb black insert for sure.

If you like the honeycomb and the round emblem, you can order the mag gray from a TRD Sport and it’s just swapping out grilles. You could more than likely post on Craigslist or find someone on this site that would take your old grille off hand. Expect to pay around $350ish.

If you like the grille on the ‘19 TRD Pro that has Toyota spelled across then you can order the Pro grille but you would have to get the surround painted. Also, the ‘19 Pro grille requires the cover for the sensor which cost just as much as the grille. (Some Buy aftermarket sensor cover for about $100ish)
Expect to pay around $$500-800ish if you go this route depending on sensor cover and paint.

Depending on when you plan to do a grille swap the ‘20 TRD Pro is supposed to be in mag gray and you could wait about 7-8 months and probably purchase one with the matching surround. Again, more than likely would need the sensor cover. It may drop in price like the Tacoma did over time or may still be high.

Another option is the ‘14-17 TRD Pro grille without the honeycomb in mag gray and you do a grille swap. That is what I did. (Cost of grille $250) you just have to swap surround. In my case, I have the limited grille so it was best for me.

Cool I think that narrows it down to the TRD sport as to the look I want and also easiest to swap out with the TSS sensor as well....that’s what I wasn’t sure about. Thank you!

He broke the plastic pins trying to get the push nuts off. Just use a flat screwdriver and small hammer. Rap the push nut edge and it will raise the opposite edge. Use pliers as if to unscrew it. It will pop off and you can hammer it flat for reinstallation.

Yeah I had watched that video before but just wasn’t sure it would fit the 2019 and also if that emblem would come off without breaking the tabs like he did in the video. Appreciate both of you for the information and also appreciate that pic @ShreveportTSS....I had been tying to find a front end pic with the paint matched grill/bulge with the chrome bumper end caps remaining, was thinking about deleting all the chrome in front but doesn’t look bad at all with that remaining.

    Thanks again!

Getting ready to start the mods to the front grill/hood bulge. Anyone interested in purchasing the chrome parts? 2019 SR5 with honeycomb center grill.

If you don’t mind, how did you swap out the insert? I have the same pro grill and want to swap but don’t want to break any of the tabs.

Once you take the grille off (plenty of you tube videos on this) then comes removing the inserts. It takes a lot of patience and some pry tools.

Here is link to a video when I did mine

I broke mine off too (they are somewhat brittle). I simply used a belt sander to sand down the ends to just below flush (to the grille), drilled and tapped on center for M4 screws and re-attached with small fender washers to make a secure mount. Eezee peezee.

They are the part #’s for the mag gray. What color do you need?

Stupid question: Is there not a way to successfully de-chrome it using chemicals?

    - Remove from truck
    - separate parts
    - de-chrome using oven cleaner or autobody product or something similar
    - Paint (or just put back on black)

Not sure Howe it would turn out with it being plastic. I would imagine it would be the yellow/beige plastic underneath

I originally thought the same but the MGM matching grill really looks good. I like it more than the black that came on it.
