about to make the move to a tundra and am having trouble deciding which configuration to go with. love the interior space of the crewmax cab but the bed size is somewhat of a concern. i like the 6.5' bed of the dc but feel i might miss the crewmax cab. i dont haul as much as i used because of a job change but still do haul stuff quite often and feel it could be a concern. ive looked both models over several times and still cant decide which way to go. anytime we all go somewhere, we take wifes rig so it wont be a deal breaker either way. anyone went with the crewmax and wish the had the longer bed? thanks

I had the same dilemma. I am using my truck for long trips and wanted comfort. Which is why i chose the platinum. I can always hook my trailer if i need to haul anything. If you dont have a trailer you can always rent one. Might not help, but thats how i chose my truck.

I chose the dc 6.5 sometimes I put my quad in the back. Plus the back seat IMO has plenty of room for passengers.

I wish I would have gotten a double cab with the 6.5 foot bed. Thought the extra room in the crewmax would be cool but I rarely even have more than 1 passenger so it’s kinda pointless.

If you have passengers and can give up bed space get the crewmax.
If you never have passengers, get the double cab.

I bought the 6.5 double cab because the only people that ride in the back seat are kids or people that I don't like.
I am 5'9" and didn't mind the back seat the few times that I didn't drive.

The DC may be tough for car seats. Other than that and back window roll down for crew max, DC should work for most.

I want to be able to have a full size motorcycle in my bed. 6.5' it was.

I haven't had the rear seats folded down in a year and a half.

Me too. DC more "truckish" than Crewmax IMHO. I could see CM for larger families for sure.

Why can you get a DC with either 6.5 or 8 foot bed, but the crewmax only has the 5.5 bed?
    What's up with that Toyota?:notsure:

How bout a RCTB? Reg Cab with Ten foot bed vs CM with 8 ft bed? Nope.. they'd sell maybe 2 a piece for parade float use.

Depends on what you're haulin'. I take the trash off every sunday, got a tool box back there because I carry crap with me just in case. I don't make a living in my truck and if I have to take the lawnmower anywhere, I hook up the trailer because I sure as hell ain't going to drive up ramps to get it in the bed no matter how long the bed is. CM 5.5 is just fine for me. You're case may be different.

Sometimes a trailer isn't practical if you haul a bunch of dirt bikes into the sticks. Nice having that extra foot of space.

If it makes you feel any better, the Tundra's double cab seating is far better ergonomically than both the Silverado DC and the Fords Extended Cab. The Silverado's / GMS rear seating is very upright and the seat bottoms very short. The Ford Extended cabs first off don't have a door handle and are just down right tiny. Moving up to Fords Crew cab is over kill. Unless you need room for a few 250-300 lb buddies, the crew is a waste of space. We do a lot of long distance RVing trips and my adult son is very comfortable in the rear seating. Out of the 3 mentioned the turning radius on the Tundra is far shorter than than those. I test drove a F-250 crew last week. Right off the bat, huge difference in turning radius. I could never deal with a 5-1/2 bed. For some reason salesman seem to push buyers in that direction of the shorty bed. I can deal with the 6-1/2....enough room for 3 bikes, some firewood, two inflatable kayaks....

I think because it would involve developing another bed.
    DC is either a 6.5 or 8.0 = 1.5 foot difference. DC vs Crew is 6.5 vs 5.5 = 1 foot difference.
The conclusion is that to put a 6.5 bed on a CM would require a completely different bed or a lengthened frame (Requiring longer drive shaft, brake lines, wiring, etc, etc). Toyota is not likely to spend the time and $. Especially on a model that is due for a redesign.

P1090708.jpg [IMG] How many have actually seen a DC with the 8' bed? In 5 years I have seen only one in my travels in Ohio. With the stretched wheelbase it looks funky.

Same thing with the tow mirror option, with all the camping we have done in the OH. PA. VT. area, I can only recall one or two Tundras with the tow mirror option. But if you travel to Alaska, the Fairbanks Toyota, half of the ones on the lot have the tow mirrors. But if your towing it sure makes it easy. Their only manual, but again this is Toyota's approach to simple is best.

I completely agree with you an 8' bed tundra DC. Looks weird to me also. I drove mine for 6 months before I said I have to lift this thing. Some even say they look like a giant sperm going down the road lol I wouldn't say all that but.i do love my truck now its lifted. This pic was taken this morning. Just to show you they are nicer lifted. 15541196840891225258299468602915.jpg

Love my DC. I fit two boys and two labs in the back. It's cozy but they love it. Would not give up the bed for anything.

O one great thing is I can put 8' sheets of drywall or what ever i want and close the tail gate. With the bed cover on that's important around here. In the spring rain season. And this a couple yrs ago I had the golf cart in the bed with the tail gate closed. Yes lifted golf cart also. Haha 20170813_183220_HDR.jpg
