Ride Rite airbags installed.

Some what of a pain on the drivers side. Took me roughly 4 hours taking my time. Lifted the rear with 7 psi about a half inch.
Shredded a couple knuckles. Looking forward to towing the boat with them.

 

I really like mine. Didn’t think they were to bad to install, but it is the third time installing on a tundra.

 

I fought the left side for a little bit. The plate needs to be right. I had to flip it once. Moving the fuel module was somewhat of a pain. Your right though, not terrible and I feel like it helps make the rear more stable. I think I would knock it out a lot quicker next time.

 

I didn’t saw off the bumps stops. I loosened the U bolts and pulled them off. I’m not sure why they say saw them vs remove.

Am i to assume that these will not work if you already use a WDH w/4pt sway control?

 

I don’t see why it wouldn't still work. But I would want to set up the weight distribution hitch and sway control before airing up the bags. Try to get it properly leveled first as much as you can.

OP, do you do much off-road? The reason I ask is, I have heard the bags can get messed up with a lot of off road articulation. Many here suggest going with some Daystar cradles that help keep the lower part of your bags located.

 

I installed Firestone RideRite air bags and removed the bump stops instead of sawing off too. Not sure how a cradle would protect the bag. I thought cradles are used when one end of the bag isn't attached. Mine are attached to the truck and the rear end. Did you guys tee the airlines or run separate lines?

 

OK then I think it’s to keep the bag from tearing and it lets them separate instead of tearing.

 

Agree, I would like to have the cradles and I don’t off road at all.

 

I don’t, Sean. Sadly, my Tundra stays on pavement most of the time and some dirt roads. I would defiantly not recommend the bags if you’re off-roading.

 

I ran them separate. I considered the T but these things hold so little air to get the pressure I didn’t think it would be a big deal. I popped them out on the lower plastic of the bumper below the sensors on back. I’m not sure I gave that enough thought but I can live with it.

Correct, individual air bag control is better for “sway” reasons....
It prevents the air from transferring from one bag to another when cornering

Cradles protect the bag because they take the place of the bolts that attach them to the axle, so the suspension can fully droop and the bags wont rip or prevent full droop
I would run separate lines, if the load shifts then the air in the bags could shift in the opposite direction. So if the load in the bed shifts to the right side of the truck when making a left turn, the air would shift from that right bag to the left where there is less load, causing a more uneven load, and increase the chance of rolling over.

Not to highjack your post, BUT.
I don't offroad super intensely, but I do enjoy exploring basic jeep trails and dirt roads to get to secluded spots. My tundra is still my daily so I want to be able to drive it home and not stress the truck. Is it still a bad idea to get airbags? I am simply looking for a more comfortable ride and adjustable rebound for both on and offroad. Does anyone have any insight as to why I shouldn't get airbags?

 

You really only need them for leveling a loaded bed or trailer, or back seat passengers in a Tacoma lol. Those leaf springs sucked on my taco, 2 people in back and I'd be on the bump stops over small bumps. They shouldn't be used for a lift. And if you offroad you should get cradles

 

Anyone that run air bags should really consider cradles. They keep the stress off the bags when the truck is lifted off the ground for oil changes etc or off road articulation.
17 imho all trucks that are used as a truck should have air bags. They really help with a load in the bed or pulling any trailer to be level. I have run them for 10 years on Tacoma and Tundra .

For those that have installed cradles, is it as simple as undoing the bolt holding the bag on the bottom and screwing in the cradle down? Would I have to take everything off?

 

Take the screw out of the bottom of the bag
Screw cradles to lower bracket
Your done bag just sits in cradle
Maybe 1/2 job very easy

 

I am installing my airbags/cradles tomorrow. With my +3 Coachbuilder shackles the overall height between frame and top of leafsprings is 1" larger than the airbag assembly. I was hoping that adding the cradles and putting air in the bags would solve the problem. Is it possible to use a spacer and the cradles? The only time it seems it might be an issue is when I have no weight in the bed, which is extremely rare for me.

 

what is the benefit of using airbags? (I tow a boat as well but dont know the benefits of airbag)

FYI, Airlift brand bags specifically say that its okay to lift the truck by the frame and let the axle hang from the bags. Thats why I choose them over Firestone.

 

Dear baggers, I just posted another thread about my suspension newbie question and have received no feedback.

I have a 2019 crewmax 4x4. I have a decked storage system and a leitner designs rack. Empty these both are a combined added weight of about 300lbs in the bed. I have 6112 at 1.9 and 5160 rear. My question is for added weight in the rear. Do I bag it or do a leaf spring or is there another option? I am using my truck in the south east. So no mountains or articulation. Dirt and gravel roads for hunting and fishing and daily driver. Thanks for any advice or sarcastic comments.
