Michelin defender LTX ms2

Are the Defenders different then the LTX m/s2? My truck came stock with the LTX m/s2 and they have been a great tire, quiet and good winter/wet weather traction. But I'm about even with the wear bars at 35k on them, debating on another set as I do a lot of highway driving. Also these were rotated every 5k, pressure checked weekly but I do tow 5-6days a week and bed is always loaded so maybe they cant handle that as much.

 

The defenders replaced the ltx ms2.
They supposedly have an updated rubber compound which lasts longer and gives better traction. They seem very similar to the older version to me though. You can still find the older version available at many stores. I'm sure soon enough they will sell out.

These look nice, I was looking into these as well. Did you take a hit on mpg? Looks like they are 57lbs a tire for these which I think is like a 16lb gain from stock.

 

I had purchased the original LTX M/S tires years ago after seeing them on a buddys truck with 70k on them and they still looked brand new! Even with a shell with weight inside.

I got about 65k (6 years) on them and just like my buddys the tread was barely worn. They even smelled new for 3-4 years.

Bought some new LTX M/S 2’s because the original M/S ones had (slight) dry rot on sidewalls and didn’t want to chance during towing.

The LTX M/S 2’s are ok. They are wearing way faster than the original maybe due to the ‘eco’ formula. At 25k on them they are way past half tread. Not the same tire as the original! A let down based on the original.

Might try these ‘Defenders’ next time. My other car likes them.

 

I have a short commute. Less than 3 miles. And most trips are less than 10 miles in the burbs. I average about 11.5 right now. Not really sure about highway.

 

Yeah that would put a hurting on me, Average day for me is 60-80miles I drive and lots of 400+ highway runs. Looks like I'm staying with the lighter Michelins. Those coopers sure look good though!!

 

Put these tires on my truck yesterday. Really happy with them, ultra quiet and smooth riding.

These are a perfect tire for those who want a larger tire that fills the wheel well, rides better than OEM, but doesn’t add hardly any rotating mass (weight). My Dad ran a set of these on his Sierra and got nearly 85K out of them.

 

Just put a set on. 275/55/20. They are fantastic. Handles great, quiet, great in wet conditions, and will last for years. Discount Tire, 195.00 each plus a 70.00 Michelin rebate here in Indiana.

 

How do these ride compared to a P rated tire? I will soon be getting Bilstein 5100 installed on all four corners of my truck, and I'd like to go from P275/60/20 Michelins to 275/65/20, which is an LT tire. Thanks.

Concur. Been on Michelins for 15 years on the 02’. Prior to that on an 87’ Toy. All LT E-rated tires. Quiet and does the job nicely in all weather conditions. Performs nicely in snow and sand, as well.

I just ordered a set of 275/60/20s that will be in on Saturday. I just bought my truck last month and it has some cheap Chinese Sailuns on it from the previous owner. I feel EVERY pebble on the road. I'm very excited to put these bad boys on!

Thanks buddy. I'm pretty excited. I almost put my falken AT3 275/55/20s on it from my 4Runner I just sold but I've been doing more highway driving so I want some functionality over the off-road style.

 

I am also getting ready to order these. Just waiting for Michelin to offer the $70 rebate.

The rebate ended at Discount Tire June 8. I will wait til it returns.

 

Shop the internet, I got mine from Walmart. Ship to store for $250 each. Then had my SIL mount and balance.

 

I also found the ones for my wife's car at Sears, total cost, for less than the bare tires everywhere else .

 

I work at a dealer and got a pretty sweet deal on mine but Amazon has them for 233 a pop. But no rebate that way.

 

Every now and then discount tire direct on ebay has $100 off $400 and you can make 2 account and buy 2 tires at a time and get 200 off 800. Great deal. I think I paid 760 for 4

 

I just installed Michelin defender ltx in the stock size 32” 275/55/R20. So far I am really happy with the tire. I originally purchased the Yokohama geolander a/t g015 but was experiencing flat spotting (steering wheel shake first thing in morning) I returned the yokos in the 30 day trial period. The Michelin are much smoother and quieter riding.

 

Mine are going on right now in the shop. My tech was off for a couple days and I only trust him with my truck. photos to come shortly.

 

Oldies and newies! These tires are smoooooth. Now only if Michigan roads could get their stuff together.

 

Hope it isn't a repeat but.. Being that some of you went from a P tire to an LT, what PSI are you running on all 4 tires?
