Wheels, powder coat or not?

Just looking to get some advice on what I should do with my wheels!! I’ve decided not to go aftermarket and with my entire truck being blacked out now would it be too much to have black wheels also? The only powder coating place near my area charges $220 per wheel for powder coat which seems pretty high to me. I’ll be going with BF KO2’s but need to figure out the wheel situation first. Thanks for any input

I know, the place has a reputation for quality work but I could buy some really good aftermarket wheels for the same price.

 

Black will look much better than those. But 220 per wheel is waaaaay too high. Most PC places will do wheels for 50-60 each. You really don't need high quality PC on your wheels. Only real way they'll get damaged is if you curb them. And they'll end up with the same damage whether they're high quality or not.

 

The powder coat place I’m referring to is the only place near my area which is probably why they feel they can charge so much! If I could find a place to do it for $100 or less per wheel I would do it in a second

That is a crazy high price. I'm sure I'll get flamed here but plastidip is easy and cheap. Especially if you just do black. Dip your car .com alway has sales going on. I did mine a few weeks ago and like them. I did their color brass monkey with glossifier, all 4 wheels and badges for around $50. Black would probably be less. You need a can of color per wheel and 2 cans of glossifier.

I know it won't last forever, but I have seen some wheels hold up for a couple years.
Black would be much easier and cheaper , especially when touch ups are required.
I really think adding a pearlizer, metalizer, and/or glossifier is the way to go. Plain black matte plastidip does not look good on wheels IMO

 

I agree powedercoat would look great but like others have said that's way too expensive. If you are planning on getting new tires anyway, get new wheels at the same time and sell what you have on your truck right now. I see the TRD offroad sets go for $1000 all the time on Craigslist.

 

Agree with others, 220 is way too high. My friend got his TRD wheels powder coated black at a local shop for $450. Then got the TRD Pro center caps. That's what i'd do if i were in your position. Looks real good.

 

Guy I work with just got his done for $40 a rim.

 

I had some wheels powder coated satin black and I loved it I reccomend it

 

I paid $75 a wheel.

Nice truck!! Black is my favorite, but i'm to old and don't have the energy to maintain a Black Beauty.

 

I must be the only one that likes the stock TRD wheels. Either look good IMO.

 

Mine were about $90 a wheel if I recall.

 

IMHO I like the wheels as they are. It gives a nice subtle contrast yo your nice looking truck.

But at that price for PC, I would look for some "Take-off" or go aftermarket.

 

Yea I just ordered some TRD's from a guy on ebay for $750 who supposedly drove the truck from the dealership to the wheel place to get some others installed. Guess we'll see how it turns out.

 

Way too high a price! My guy charges $80 a wheel and that's a tad on the high side.

I just want to quote you because you used the proper term. Wheel not rim. Thats annoying to me when people call wheels, rims for some reason haha

 

Gotta go all black. Unfortunately, that price for pc is way too high. Aftermarket would probably be the way to go, then you could get a different backspacing if you want a little extra poke. And can sell those wheels to help offset the cost. I had mine pc'd, but at $80 a wheel iirc.

 

I have these exact wheels on my 17 MGM DC, and have been weighing PC vs Plastidipping them, REALLY appreciate the photo to get the visual.

Bought my truck used, and the original owner had swapped the blacked out TSS edition wheels for these - what the heck are they called? (Dealer said they were the 1794 wheels, but I didn't look into that, and the 1794s I've seen are different) I've been trying to get info on them while deciding to replace or refinish them (Backspace, etc...)

 

Thanks for all the input guys, I’m on the hunt for a set of TRD Pro wheels somewhat close to my area which is Ct. 06820, so if anyone has some they could part with please let me know. There is no way I can justify $220 per wheel for powder coat!!

 

Craigslist in the Philly and NYC area usually has some Pro wheels. Good place to start.

I’ve seen them on Facebook marketplace too. Again, Philly and NYC region

 

I also got quoted $200 a wheel by my local place. At that price I’d rather get the TRD Pro wheels and then just sell my TRD OR on Craigslist. Less downtime.

$75 a wheel I’d be in for that deal.
