Washed my truck this weekend and noticed the plastic front panel below the headlights had a couple good paint dings in it. I guess because that part is plastic, a rock can easily leave its mark. Anyone else with this problem? Hummm...

I had XPEL paint protection film applied when she was brand new because the front of my Platinum is all painted / color matched. It really helps with the bugs and rock chips. So far, no issues. If I didn't have it, you can bet it would be full of road rash.

I didn't see a reply for this so I'll bite on it.

    List O' Shit
    1. 20lb test fishing line
    2. Couple of microfiber rags
    3. 3M adhesive remover
    4. Plastic pry tool
    5. Tough gloves, like mechanix or something along those lines
    6. Extension Cord
    7. Hair dryer

You'll begin by hooking up your (or your wife's', depending on your hair style) hair dryer and getting your fishing line ready. You might want to fold your line in half to make it a little stronger. Run your hair dryer over the badge for about a minute and test the waters to see about soft the adhesive is. *key note, the 5.7L V8 badge below the mirrors WILL be the toughest due to there being a stupid amount of adhesive tape on the other side. I'm pretty sure the scientist who cooked up the adhesive recipe for this crap should the a Nobel or something. By test the waters, I'm referring to sliding the fishing line behind the decal while it is hot and going through a saw motion to allow the line to cut through the adhesive backing. There is no real "perfect" way to do this so I'd suggest you just give a shot and try what you what you think feels better. This is where the mechanix would really come in handy to keep from burying fishing line in your fingers and making gripping your beer later a little less painful. as you begin to cut through the adhesive on the decal and get it pretty much pryed up, just use your pry tool to get behind and finish it off. At any time there feels like there is a little more tension then you would like, I would just apply a little more heat in a fanning motion and just continue on.

Once you get the decal that is under the mirror taken care of, you can move onto the easy part. the lettering comes off VERY easy. depending on how delicate you were with the removal and "sawing" motion with the fishing line, the adhesive can be easy or a little tough to get off. I personally have wheeled my truck and put it through amounts of hell so this part was nothing more than shitty. Get as much of the adhesive off as you can then you'll spray some adhesive remover over the residual adhesive and let it sit for about 20 seconds then wipe it away. You may need to do this more than once which is why I recommend a couple of rags. If you do not use a microfiber rag, you risk dulling your paint and putting scratches.

Overall the process is easy and will take you about an hour or so, or if you are like me and anal with spots and tiny imperfections, it can take more. Overall the look was worth it and if I want to put them back on, I can easily get some doubt sided 3M adhesive tape and put them back on.

Also, I polished and waxed the area about 3 or 4 times just to get the outline of the decal off so you might want to onvest in some of this. I have a black truck used some awesome stuff but can't for the life of my remember what it is called. If you want I can reply on here with it. Best of luck and don't hesitate on asking any questions.
