I was wandering if anyone has had any issues with the radios, 14 Tundra. First it use to reboot while driving and now it freezes up. Cant control the volume, power or anything. I have to shut the vehicle off to reboot the radio.

My ‘14 4Runner does the same exact thing. It goes in stretches with some trips happening over and over, and then we’ll go a while where it is fine(right now- knock on wood). Ours doesn’t get to the point of having to restart the truck. We just hold the power button in and the head unit reboots. I was told we would need to bring it in and have it worked on, updated, or reflashed by a dealer. Doesn’t bother us bad enough to pay to have it supposedly fixed.

I'll have to try holding the power button. It's becoming almost daily lately. Maybe its good argument for a new head unit with apple play. LoL

I’ve got a solution. Swap that sheet out.

In all seriousness try deleting the entune app and or turning off Bluetooth.

KENWOOD dmx906s with maestro RR. With all the adaptors it will reuse all the trucks peripherals except for the mic.

That's the one I was looking at, although buried in the details was this that made me nervous. Have not reached out to Crutchfield yet though:
    • Wireless Apple CarPlay will not work without a vehicle speed pulse connection. You will need either a radio replacement interface with a vehicle speed pulse connection or Kenwood's OBD-II Spped Pulse Generation (KNA-SPM100) - both sold separately. Alternatively, you can also hardwire the Kenwood receiver's speed pulse wire to your vehicle's speed pulse wire (this method is much more time consuming and requires more installation experience).
The link mentioned is not compatible, so that leaves the OBDII connection. Any issue with the wireless CarPlay and the speed pulse connection?

Thanks (sorry for being off topic post originator).

Nope. This is all great information. I just got off the phone with Crutchfield and looking at a few different models. I thinking of staying with either Kenwood or Pioneer. Pioneer has one coming in with no ship date with all I want since I'm able to pick and choose. One feature I'm looking for is mirroring. The deck will be able to play multi media using an HDMI cord. Still filtering...I like the feed back that keeps coming helping me choose. I doubt I would choose a wireless car play. First too expensive and two I don't feel like paying more for extra wiring harnesses....

There is a VSS signal wire behind the radio. It is the same color as the kenwood wire so just splice it together. I also have a maestro that gets the VSS from the obd port so I wouldn't worry about what they said. Just get it!

Oh, it's already in the shopping cart. I can't order it cuz I'm leaving on vacation in a day and don't want it sitting on my front porch while I'm gone!
I just installed another Kenwood in my daughter's 4Runner. Just making sure I've got everything covered, I had to order extra shit because I didn't have everything I needed when I did the install. Had to take the unit out three or four times before it was finally complete. :)

If you want to use the factory gps antenna make sure to get the adaptor. The gps antenna is the black one. The white one is for sat radio. There is also An adaptor to use the factory USB port. I recommend the maestro rr if it’s not in your cart.
