Has anyone ever swapped a 1 piece bench seat over to a 60/40 bench seat? If so was it in a reg cab or access cab? It is almost impossible to find a 60/40 out of a reg cab (which I have) but there are a ton of 60/40 benches near me that are out of access cab (ext cab) and I am just wondering if it will bolt into my reg cab? I suspect the previous owner of my truck was very heavy and sat somewhat crooked because the outer most section of my bench seat is very broken down spring wise and it has got to the point it hurts my back to sit for extended periods in the truck due to your left side being lower than the right side and sitting crooked. Would be nice to upgrade to a 60/40 for when my wife drives (she is 5'4") she can scoot up and reach the pedals without me putting my knees on the dash (i am 6'2"). I appreciate any help in advance.

So here is a picture from an access cab 60/40 seat, so as you can see, when the center console is folded down, it protrudes into the rear. It makes me wonder if in my regular cab, if there will be enough room to the rear to fold down the center console. If not, I suppose in a worse case scenario, I could just leave the center console up at all times. The "arm rest" that currently folds down out of my 1 piece bench seat is so low down, it is worthless anyways as a arm rest. It would need to be at least 5" higher to be possibly functional. So I am use to not having a arm rest. What do you guys think?

If someone with an access cab and 60/40 seat could measure the distance that the center console sticks out behind the seat, that would give me an idea if it would work.

Nice! Yeah I still have not tried to tackle it yet. I would love to do this! Its definitely on my "to do" list. What made you search out this old thread? Are you looking into doing the same?

I have a double cab with a center console and always liked folding consoles better and was doing research about it. I stumbled into your post and about 15 minutes later I found a singlecab with what your asking and thought it may help you out. So far ive found noone has seem to do it yet so I guess Im gonna find out if it works if I can find a seat local to me

Do you need the bench seat so you can have a 3rd person in the truck?
If not it might be easier to look for buckets and a center console.
    Just saying..

I greatly appreciate you sending me that. It clearly confirms it can be done. Did you happen to see a weblink on those photos? I am wondering if they did that themselves or if it came from the factory that way.

Yeah, it being a regular cab, I prefer to keep the ability to carry three people. To be honest, I keep it as a work truck/"get out of dodge" truck. We (me and my wife) have 3 kids. I have been taking her offroading for years and she is just as good as I am now driving offroad. I figured if the crap ever hit the fan, my wife and 2 girls can sit inside the truck, while me and our boy can ride in the bed. I was here in Houston during hurricane Ike when everyone got grid locked into Houston. After that fiasco, I made a plan to follow the top of bayou systems to get out of town. Even practiced it a few times. If you a a moderately modified 4x4 like my truck (lift, larger tires, winch, heavy duty skid plates, and Detroit truetrac) you can drive along the tops of the bayou systems to get out of town and avoid the traffic and grid lock on the roads. We literally keep this truck for that, plus taking to the hunting property during hunting season. So yeah, to wrap up a long story, I need 3 seats.

The 60/40 should fit. I have a sequoia center console that I measured to fit (I haven’t 100% confirmed because the trucks at the body shop) just remember you need one from a 05-06 truck. They changed the airbag system in 05. There’s a sensor there that the 04 and older do not have.

Also. Considered seats in the bed like the Subaru brats had. I sure loved those seats when I was a kid!

I'm almost positive.ive seen videos on YouTube with DCs with the 60/40 bench. The real question is with the DC Being taller, will you have to do d a 60/40 from another DC?

I am a certified welder, and I have seriously thought about cutting the back half out of my Tundra and building a roll bar cage that goes into the bed area, so I could mount a bench seat back there for the kids to ride in. I would obviously put 5 point harnesses in for them to wear, and mount them to the .120 DOM 2" tubing I would use to build the cage. Obviously welded or bolted to the frame VERY well. The only issue I come back to, is the bed section of the truck is elevated higher than the passenger section, so either people would basically be sitting almost on the floor of the bed of the truck with their legs straight out in front of them (not comfortable) or I would have to cut the floor open, and build/weld a drop down so that it would be a more natural seating position. My truck is all manual locks and windows and no carpet, so I would just need like some neoprene water proof seat covers, and I think it would be fine. I would also drill some 1/2" drain holes and put rubber grommets in the lowest spots inside the cab floor so I could drain water if need be. I would probably rhino line the floor as well. I have not found a solution to the bed floor/leg space though in detail. I can build pretty much anything when I have instructions/plans but I am not the greatest fabricator.

Oh yeah, been this way a LONG time. I am no boy scout, but I sure as hell am "always prepared". I doubt I will ever need it, but if I ever do, my family won't be stuck here like 99% of people. I spent about 2 years building a "SHTF" setup. Most people call it a "bug out bags"... I designed mine as a "start over" bags. I assume worse case scenario, which is indefinitely having to live off the grid. So rather than bottles of water and freeze dried meals, I have stainless steel snares, auto fishing reels, sling shots, .22 cal (1,000 fps) air rifle (best survival/hunting gun in my person opinion), about 20,000 pellets, compact water filer rated for 100,000 gallons (at 1 gallon a day, will last 1 person abour 76 years in theory), magnesium strikers, plastic flexible magnifying glass (unlimited fires), been collecting lint from the dryer lint catch for long enough to pack a 1 gallon ziplock bag tightly full (lint makes the best fire starter), ultra light and compact mylar sleeping bags, solar rechargeable/crank LED lights and weather radios with shortwave capability, various stainless steel knives (your knives will rust in the outdoors if not stainless or ceramic), a few smaller black bear foot traps (works for both animals and two legged critters that try to sneak up on you at night), obviously various firearms but I will mainly use those to get away from lootere and robbers, once out in the middle of nowhere, they would only be for self protection... I can kill pretty much anything with snares, .22 cal air rifle, or cross bow, and none of them will draw attention from any distance as they are very silent. Lets see, what else... fold up solar panel kit with two usb ports for charging cell phones, laptops, radios, flashlights, etc. Multiple hand held rechargeable radios with encrypted channels. Lots of camo including "blinds" to cover the truck with. Roll up sleeping mats (just makes the ground more comfortable), a first aid kit that will make a paramedic jealous (blood sponges, etc), antibiotics, 1000 ft roll of 60 lb braided fishing line, 200 feet of true 550 cord (not that fake crap sold all over the internet), high end forest axe, axe sharpening stone puck, diamond knife sharpener, folding saw, book with pictures on which plants you can eat, survival playing cards (has various survival info on each card) for boredom, small heavy duty powder coated sharp shooter shovel, there is a ton more I am forgetting off the top of my head, but yeah, I spent years putting it all together and thinking of any possible scenario I could ever run into. To be honest, most of that stuff is fairly cheap. Its just having it when you need it. In a emergency situation, like a catastrophic event, people are going to clean out academy and Walmart in a hour. You better have been prepared BEFORE then.

My biggest "issue" is with the government intentionally adding crap to gas so people can't stock pile it. Obama ordered it many years ago. It already use to break down but it does it faster now than it use to. Even with the best fuel stabilizers, your pushing it at 18 months in these newer vehicles. I keep five, 5 gallon gas jugs filled at all times, and every 18 months, pour them in our vehicles and then refill them with fresh gas and fuel stabilizer (startron). I have looked into swapping my engine over to running on propane, as propane can be stored pretty much indefinitely.

So yeah, I am very prepared. Glad to see fellow Houston neighbors who are like minded :)

Damn, that's a nice BOB. That's also why I refuse to live in a big city. 5 minute drive to the country from where I live, 10 minutes the other way and I'm in amarillo.

Some trucks came from the factory with the 60/40. Just found it out today when one came in for service!. Now I’m curious if any came with the buckets. Because mine sure as hell had all the holes for the buckets and the center console

I am actually in the process of doing that exact thing with my 99 Tacoma rock crawler. It is also a single cab.
Recently I rolled it on its side and demolished the drivers side a pillar as well as the bedside.
I am using the Macho Taco as my inspiration. (this is not my truck)
    P3050073_4438882ad3dd773f2a9d2794e10ecc068e749c29.jpg

My plan however is to cut both A pillars at the base and cut the roof right near the back of the cab. I want to leave the B pillar, 3rd brake light, and the window hole. I want the B pillar to remain so I can still get the door to close and latch.
I'm going to rebuild the A pillars with tube so the door will seal against them. Also I plan to use lexan for the windshield.
There will be a bench seat right behind the cab wall. I have also been in a conundrum about seat height for the seat in the back. However, when I look at it, a sport suspension bench seat actually has a much lower profile and is not built up with a foot of material. So I believe the seat height will be no higher than the seat height of the seats in that cab. Aside from that I don't plan on having 6 foot tall people in that seat. I'm doing this so I have seats for my whole family. My kids are little still (3m/o and a 2 y/o). I believe it will work out fine.
I'm going to get an interior shop to build a basic soft top with canvas and cloth snaps so I can keep the weather out or let it in.

I'm first starting by building a flat bed in the back. I'm saving up for a tube bender so I haven't done anything else except remove the bed and relocate the gas tank. The floor of the bed will not sit much higher than an inch or two above the tank.

The lime green one? Yeah it’s an awesome truck.
That truck was on the cover of Peterson’s back in 08 and reading about it and seeing pictures of the rock crawling he was doing is what sparked my interest in 4wheeling.

Something like a corbeau suspension bench seat might work good in your bed. They are pretty low to the ground. I'd just suggest a good pad for your head with or without helmets. A shell might not be bad either. You could keep stuff dry and somewhat secure when traveling. Also it would be harder for people to see the guys in back with guns before it's too late if they wanted to rob and pillage the women folk.

I know on my first gen taco that came with the 60/40 it had the holes for the buckets and console.and i did the swap with ease. That wasn't the only thing I found Toyota to have had pre set up on the truck. I added.map lights and the roof.had the holes lined.up for them too.

I’ve added a lot. The trucks got all the mounts.. overhead, secondary visors, etc. I’m just surprised the reg cab had it all. Because from my knowledge these all were never options .

Maybe there was a high end single cab option

I’m guessing the front floor pans were the same. On a double cab you’d have the same front floor pan as a single cab and then the extra floor pan for the rear.

Edit: also my Tacoma was optioned up like mad from the factory. Bucket seats, console, tac, cruise, tilt column, intermittent wipers.
I think that was it but if they’d make a taco like that I wouldn’t doubt they’d make a tundra like that.

Probably the same front half as an access. Cab truck.

    Old thread reboot.
I just swapped a 60/40 bench out of a 2006 SR5 Access Cab into my 2005 Base Regular Cab that came with a full bench.
The only thing I had to do in order to make it bolt in was to cut out small holes in the vinyl floor (no carpet in my truck) to access the pre-drilled bolt holes that were plugged with rubber plugs from the factory. Then I had to drill through the cab in a pre-marked spot on in the floor and use a bolt and nut to secure the buckle for the middle seat.
    That's it.
The only issue I am left with is a difference in SRS wiring plugs for the passenger seat. So my passenger airbag will forever be disabled until I figure out how to wire that properly.

But so you all know. It is easily doable.
