My truck is usually clean and stays clean until it rains then shows water/dirt marks bad even after a fresh wax.. any input on how to avoid the issue is appreciate.

I had a black 4runner before getting the tundra; swore to myself I would NEVER get a black car again. Showed swirls after the first time I washed it and would show EVERY imperfection- rock chips, scrapes, etc. Even where touch up paint was used and applied to the exact directions you could tell without looking too hard. I love the cement as it hides dirt and imperfections.......

BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.......nothing looked better after washing than the black with black TRD rims and blacked out logos.

I’m thinking of buying another truck and just leaving my Tundra in a climate controlled garage and just dust it a little every day and look at it.

Just got done having lunch with a buddy who owns both a F150 and Tundra DC both Metalic Grey. As we were leaving, we talked real quickly on washing the trucks. I told him I just had mine washed by the local dealer while it was in for its 10K routine. I told him I was hesitant about swirls and he says "See my trucks? I've never had that problem on both my trucks in all the years (20 yrs)." I said, "what do you do to take care of avoiding the swirls?" His reply, "Simple, I never washed them. Ever. " SMH. But yeah, I love the color black and all the comments I can relate to. But Never again. I'm older now and not much years left, I rather avoid spending hours a week just to keep that thing pretty. Love my voodoo blue. Rain/Shine, it still looks great.

I clean the truck every other weekend, used to do it more often but I've learned to be okay with the powdered donut look it has from about 10 minutes after I finish detailing it until the next time I clean it.

It does looks nice and shiny when it's freshly cleaned, though! Although the other day I was dusting it with a microfiber car duster and got a little too aggressive on the rear passenger door...instantly etched the shit out of the door in two places that I can't usee.

Black definitely takes a ton of work but I still love her...a freshly shined black Tundra has a character to it that no other color has.

To be honest, it really doesn’t matter what color vehicle one has. If it’s not kept up clean and shiny, it will look like shit. There is something to be said about a black truck though. They just look really nice and hardcore whether they are very clean and shiny, or just clean. That’s why all the high end luxury vehicle manufacturers all offer lots of black vehicles.

another spin to this black truck debate is that.....whenever you see big ballers and high rollers driving around, what color vehicles do they roll in on???? BLACK!!:rofl::rofl:

Wear your dents and swirls and scratches proud. This thread makes me love my Black.

Ride your black truck anywhere, and woah... was I supposed to wear a black-tie? Nah, the truck’s got it covered.

The only black I will ever get again on any car. I'd like to see how this BLACK lasts in real world after rain and shine. One thing, I can say, after a rinse, I dont think I need to put on any coat of wax or ceramic. Anyone out there seen this yet. Im curious.

I've owned two black vehicles, but never again.

My experience indicates that White, light Silver/Grey, and Yellow are the best colors for vehicles.

No regrets because I knew what I was getting into. I highly suggest Tac Systems Moonlight to protect the paint. Hard sealant to help with car wash swirls. The only other color for the tundra I like is mgm. Don’t sweat it because it’s a truck and it’s gonna get dirty. Just need more maintenance washes than other colors. Rinseless washes are your best friends for black paint.

There’s a 3/4 inch spot in the middle of the roof I missed. I’m going to have to start all over now and wash it again.

If the swirls and scratches ever get to a point where I can’t stand it, I’ll just get a matte black paint job or rhino line the whole thing, and focus on keeping the interior immaculate haha.

    ^^^^ THIS.
    The washing step is crucial.
I just got rid of another black vehicle, I've had several of them.:frusty: They take extra effort to detail because its so easy to introduce (and see) micro scratching. They also look outstanding when freshly detailed.

There is nothing better looking than a black car/truck for the first 5 minutes after it has been detailed? I have had one back vehicle and learned my lesson, never again.
