For this thread I'd like to see everyones FIRST GEN BEST GEN rigs that have armor. That's plate or tube bumpers, skid plates, rock sliders, scrub bars, roll cages, exoskeletons, etc... I don't care if its fully armored or just has one or more pieces of armor. Show em off to the world and please tag what armor brands you have.

Would 9 coats of paint on each of my calipers, drums and splash plate meet the definition of armored? :monocle: I've never applied more than 3 coats on anything prior.o_O

I figured etc. left a lot of wiggle room in your definition, besides my splash plate is another man's skid plate.;) But I'm only joshing, I never thought of my truck as being armored.:turtleride:

That bumper completely transformed your truck. Looks good! You keep reminding me I need to make some freaking sliders. Maybe I'll pull the trigger on some square tube because I already scored enough DOM remnant last week.

Lol that first thread is an info thread with vendor info for people looking to buy, because basically none of the Tundras.com vendors support first gens anymore. So it's just there to be helpful as it can be difficult to find parts.

This thread is intended for us to show our own rigs off.

@because_wumbo-truck did you ever figure out how to close the gap between the bumper and fender? I'm looking at their website and their pictures don't show it.

Also, are you running 700lb coils? Does the truck ride any rougher now? Their website says the bumper only weighs 108lbs.

I will hopefully start mine soon (Coastal bumper) and that is one cause for concern that I will discuss with my fabricator prior to him starting as I want to close that up a bit if possible.
The site does say 108lbs....Will weigh them tomorrow to verify but the packages only showed 22lbs each (total 66lbs). A bit more nervous because I went with OME 886's instead of 885's due to the extra bumper/winch weight. Not sure if that's necessary or not now.

No unfortunately I think that was a mistake made by the person I had build it for me or maybe the tundra he used had a bent frame. I'm not sure. So I just live with it and try not to let it bother me lol.

I still have the 650lb coils. With the two skids, sliders and bumper the 650s ride great on the road still. The front end does look like it's sitting lower now. My truck used to be perfectly level to the eye. I've yet to take it off-road since install. Trying to get that crossmember fixed so I can install the last two sids and install new CVs before I go breaking more stuff lol

When I add a winch, I'll likely switch to a 2.5 coilovers with 700s like Kings

I'm way too anal for that. It would drive me nuts. It's a damn shame there are not more bumper options for our trucks. I'm not loving any of the ones we've found so far.

Painting everything behind the bumper black helped a lot. Before it really stood out and drove me crazy. Now when it bothers me, i just remember how much effort it took to get the driver side bolts in on the side mount and am thankful we got em in at all. I should probably buy a winch soon because after that I never want to remove it again. But I'd like to add a hoop for the grill and it could use some touch up paint, especially on the insides.

If it were me I'd probably try using a jack to bend it up. Just a thought, but I've had bumpers warp after welding and I had to help them find their shape again.

    I like this idea.

A jack and a 2x4 brace. Couple of pumps and let the trucks weight and gravity fix the problem.

I didn't know you had issues with that. Was that also because of how he welded it?

Weighed my kit today and I had the following numbers from a bathroom scale.

    • 24.2lbs
    • 34.2lbs
    • 7.6lbs
    • Total = 66lbs as stated by UPS packaging. This is still in the wrapper!

I also have the Coastal bumper, and have been back and forth on whether or not to get heavier springs, or just move up a perch and deal with the slightly rougher ride. I haven't noticed a significant difference in ride height (other than a touch more rub than before), but I'm sure once I put my winch in it will be clear one way or another. IMG_3468.jpg

Not sure if posted elsewhere, but, what is your current setup? Suspension/tires/rim (offset etc) and where are you rubbing?

In truth, I couldn't tell you the rims or offset, and I couldn't find any markings front or back. They were on the truck when I bought it. I have a set of spacers front and rear which helped a TON, so I would guess the rims don't have a ton of backspacing.

I have the Eibach setup with 650# springs, and KO2's in 285/70r17. I barely graze the frame at full lock with some compression, and the pinch weld under similar circumstances, though I can probably delete a bit more to cure it entirely.

I have a similar gap, but it was somewhat intentional. The ARB on my 1st gen taco was snugged to the bottom of the panels, and would chatter pretty bad on washboards. I moved it down ~.5", and it went away.

I agree though, looks like whoever fabbed yours burned some hot sides and didn't balance it well. If you put a couple of washers between the top two bolts on the front facing plate would it angle it enough to close that gap?

Damn yours came out looking way nicer than mine and no gap. I wish I got the hoops but I was too cheap. I see you don't have sliders, do you have skid plates? All that extra steel adds up.

Ahhh that makes sense hah. Maybe cutting those channels/drilling only where you need? I'm not really sure what would work. Back to bending.

I did the assembly, and has some seriously ugly welds as a result haha, only saving grace is the powdercoating.

I haven't done sliders or and skids, as I don't often find myself on trail which 'require them'. I'll end up doing skids sooner or later, as it seems pretty foolish to leave the guts exposed. Are you going to put a in the CD bumper?

Edit: just remembered you said you were going to as soon as you forget the difficulty of putting it on

Welcome. Your truck looks really nice. How many welds are required for that kit? I'm going to show it to my local shop and aee what they would charge me to assemble.

I learned the hard way the importance.of.skids, wish I had em sooner cuz they would have prevented this carnage.
    20191218_151711.jpg
This is what's stopping my install of the other 2 skids I have. I gotta fix it.first.
    I'll add a winch eventually.
