So if anyone with a 3rd generation tundra is wondering, this DIY is an excellent guide. Now my horn works again!!!

Well I just realized that the clock spring and steering angle sensor are two different parts. My horn doesn't work so I definitely need to replace my clock spring, but my VSC problems are the real priority.

    Pretty much everything
Call a dealer with your vin and confirm part numbers before ordering. Toyota likes to change shit in the middle so even though an 07 looks the same as a 13 sometime they change pin locations and shit like that. The process will be the same but the pins may be different. Plus it’s free to call the dealer and ask. Return shipping not so free

I just changed mine and the hardest part was unhooking the yellow airbag plug on the clock spring. The second video had a great blow up of the 2 step process( thanks deamon machine!) I was about to break the plug so I went back to directions and watched the "helpful videos". Horn works again, tomorrow the test drive.
    Excellent step by step.

My gown works part of the time. Would it still be this part, or if it was the clockspring would it not work at all?

As my gown, or possibly horn, autocorrect and all that, was going it, I would open the hood, fiddle with wires up there, and it would work again. Finally that didn't do it so I replaced the clock spring a month or so ago and it's still working fine. Be sure and watch the video that shows you how to unplug the wires underneath, the yellow plug needs a push from the back...

Looks like I get to add this to my list of stuff that has failed early on my Tundra. Horn only works when the steering wheel is turned to the left. I am first going to see if the dealership will do this under my platinum warranty, which expires in May of next year. If they don't do it, I will replace it myself with a cheaper unit. Thanks to the OP for the write-up.

Just a heads up, the Clock Spring is also connected to your SRS/Airbag

For some reason, I do not trust a $8 - $40 Chinese replica Clock Spring to be in charge of my Airbag that is in my face hahaa

I just ordered the OEM Clock Spring part from Roman @Toyota of Cool Springs. The total was $230 shipped.

I know it is a big difference.... :spending:

For those that have removed steering wheel/clock spring - do you have to pay attention to the alignment of the clock spring for the reinstall?

I paid like $7 on ebay. It's an oem Toyota part. Probably a pirated shipping container haha but I don't know that for sure...

Hey, really could use some help. Lost the screws for the clock spring and new one doesn't come with them. Can anyone tell me the width and length of the screw possibly with a pic?

Do you mean the screws for the steering column shroud/cover? The clockspring doesn't require screws - it snaps into place via 3 alignment tabs.

Does anyone happen to know what the torque spec for the steering wheel nut should be? I’m about to put mine on and would like to torque it properly.

Thank you to the OP. It made this job much easier. I went with the $230 part. Don't trust an $8 to $40 part with airbags. The reason I changed it was my cruise control had stopped working. Hope it goes another 200,000 before I have to do it again.

Just a tech tip. After you take the nut iff, but before you remove the wheel. Draw a straight line with a sharpie from the center of the steering shaft Out onto the metal surrounding the splines. Easy to realign wheel and That way the wheel will be EXACTLY where it shouOf be when you put it back. I have now done this twice on my wife’s 4Runner. I was one spline off, which was annoying and I didn’t figure it out till I drove it.

Just did this today using @csuviper ‘s instructions. Took me 25 minutes, start to finish. Thank you for the write up!

My horn stopped working, and I had it tested with TechStream. Horn actually works, but the clock spring finally wore out. Rented a steering wheel puller from Advanced Auto (KEEP YOUR RECEIPT! You buy the kit, then they give you a refund if/when you return it. $32). Got my clock spring off of PartsGeek. Followed csuviper’s instructions to the letter. Horn works, and all steering wheel controls work. Inspection due next month, and I’m good to go. Saved $650+ by doing it myself instead of taking it to a shop.

My volume up on my steering wheel is intermittent, gonna see if this can fix it. Has anyone taken their old one apart to see if it could be repaired?

    Hello gang.

Sorry, I need to resurrect this thread!

Out of the blue my horn only works when the wheel is turned sharply, as of about a week ago.
It does nothing when the wheel is straight (which is most of the time)

Needless to say, this is a major problem as I need my horn (and to upgrade my actual horn) almost daily where I live.

Those who have used these cheap knock-offs, anything to report?
I am in a financial jam atm and don't have $250 to pay Toyota for their ripoff part that should never have failed.

I am about to order one of these knock-offs, but hoping someone can tell me some good news (or bad) before I waste the effort to do this repair.
Also the postings for these knock-offs all seem inaccurate, most say they do not work for my 2014 1794 edition 4x4 gas engine.
Yet the part numbers seem to match OEM Toyota parts listings for my exact truck.

This is one of the listings I am considering buying.

I am at 1 year in with mine, and mine is still doing fine.

I paid considerably more for mine than others did, apparently. Lol. I got mine here: https://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/WC/26814-01379741.html. (I still made out better than going through the Toyota parts house or having someone else do the work).

Thank you both for your advice and experiences.

I will likely go with one of these cheap knock-offs for now out of necessity.

I will let you all know how it goes in a week or so once I get this done.

    Thanks!
