Anybody running the D35 Optima Yellow top battery?

I understand it’s not the greatest AGM out there, but I am running a dual battery system so I need 2 “middle of the road” batteries and with coupons can get 2 for close to $300. I’ve read some bad reviews from a decade ago when they moved their operation to Mexico and their quality seemed to suffer, but nothing really on here from recently. Since I’m running a dual system, I’m not really worried about one battery taking a shit, since I’ve got two... I’m considering the D35 as it’s a multi-purpose deep-cycle plus starting battery as my truck has quite of bit of electrical mods and a couple amps.

I think that info about optimas battery's going to shit was a lie that was started by disgruntled employees.

That being said, I went with Northstar (the group buy might be still going on for them). $300 for two yellow tops seem like a great deal.

Thanks, I read that about the disgruntled employees too. I just wonder why there aren’t really any reviews. $300(ish) is hard to pass up. Every website states that the D35 fits the tundra, but it’s a much smaller battery at around 9” x 6.5” and I can’t find a single review from a tundra or a v8 owner for that matter. Somebody here must be running it...

Most people here go for Odyssey or Northstar.

North Louisiana and use to use that truck to travel to Galveston tx for work. I wouldn't still have Optima if it wasn't for warranty lol and last one I bought was because I was stranded in Galveston and that's what they had. My very first Optima years back was awesome when it finally went I bought another with confidence and then thats when they started going to crap

Never had an issue with my YellowTop 24F or my RedTop 35. Great batteries. Many of us here use them with zero problems.

Yellow and red tops have treated me well also. The red top in my wife's Explorer, when she had it, was almost 9 years old.

Not saying they are all bad but after my couple experiences especially being stranded twice I'll never get one again. Odyssey will get my money. We run them offshore and have great luck

QA/QC has slipped since they started farming out production. I have been lucky, so far.

That I believe is the issue with QC me and my cousin use to be firm believers for the odyssey yellow and red tops for sound systems lights, anything really but my experiences and his just pushed us away I've heard people still have great luck tho like the old school Optima lasting for years and years so maybe they get good batches out here and there

I like my optima so far and that it’s smaller than before. I got the highest cranking amps they offered in my battery. I’ll have to verify the model but it wasn’t cheap.

My main concern is how small the D35 is, I find it odd that it’s not only smaller than traditional, but also only 32lbs. I’ve got a strictly deep cycle Trojan T1200 battery in my camper and that thing is 80lbs. of brute energy and like $350. I can go off grid for at least 4 days w my family. Just can’t wrap my head around how such a small 32lb D35 Yellow Top is able to produce what the tundra needs...like to hear from somebody else running it...

I have used the d35 in my Nissan Sentra for many years. Thought I had a bad battery years ago and had Amazon replace it under warranty. Put it on trickle charge and put it in my f-150 and it is still running today with it, I would guess the f-150 and tundra would be close in crank amps.. I have had great luck with my yellow tops I would def buy another one if I needed a battery for my tundra

FYI....Optima's are made in a single facility in Monterrey, Mexico. Here is a look see. The production line is very similar to the one that was relocated from here in Aurora, CO. We had the last calibration contract there before the unpopular relocation down south...........notice the ingots of 99.99% pure non-recycled lead? The only batteries produced there are Optima's.

Went ahead and pulled the trigger on 1 of 2 batteries I need (max. $50 discount requires me to make 2 separate purchases). Initial impressions are good.

    1. It’s heavier than I thought and not much smaller than typical.
    2. Manufactured date stamp is 11/19...and today is only 11/5/19...talk about hot off the press, 5 days from the Mexico plant to my garage, hell ya. I’ve read stories of guys getting 2 year old “new” batteries.
    3. My GP 6-lug terminals actually fit without shims.

Haha, swag that came with a yeti, it’s an empty can with a removable lid. I guess you could hide shit in it. I just have it around for garage decor.
