Hi everyone. Need some troubleshooting help. 2014 Tundra Crew Max Limited. A few weeks ago I installed a Kenwood DNX995S and idatalink. Everything worked and sounded as expected. Yesterday I replaced all the speakers, even the center. Now my front speakers are much quieter than the back. I can adjust the fade by quite a bit to make the front as loud as the back, but I was wondering if I did something wrong or don't understand the wiring.

For the center, I cut the wires off the factory speaker and then combined the positives and negatives before connecting to the new speaker. Link to what I installed in the center.

For the front doors, I unplugged the corner dash tweeters. I installed new tweeters in the sail panels. They are connected to the door speaker that is using the stock connector. Link to what I installed in the front.

The rear doors are connected to the stock wiring. Link to what I installed in the back.
    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13699043/JL-Audio-C1-650.html?tp=106&avf=Y

Everything sounds really good, but it bothers me that I have to adjust the fade so much to get the volume the same from the front and back.

I have searched and read all kinds of posts. Some say to unplug the stock tweets and leave them, and others say I need to leave them plugged in but cut a couple wires. When it comes to the center, most have said to just unplug. Did I wire it wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The factory speakers are 2ohm. Most aftermarket speakers are 4ohm, which means you get half the rated power draw from the amp... thus less ouput. If all is the same impeadence then you may have switched the polarity and are having phase cancellation which sounds like doo doo and low output too.

I would be good (and on my way to getting an amp) if both front and rear were not as loud, but the fronts are not as loud as the rear when fade and balance are centered. Both sets of aftermarket speakers are 4ohm. That was the first thing I thought about: maybe I had purchased a 2ohm speaker for the rear and 4ohm for the front, but that wasn't the case.

Try fading and listening to the sound, does it change significantly from front to back? If the bass drops off when you bring it to center you have a phase issue from to rear. I would disconnect the center channel permanently, and try just the fronts. If they sound terrible, then the fronts are out of phase with each other. You can hear the difference if you balance fade left to right, the bass will again drop off if centered, and come alive when faded. To resolve, just try switching polarity on one speaker.

I’ll go out and switch the polarity on one and see what happens. I was wondering if I switched something. The Focal wiring instructions were confusing to me: three wires instead of two, connect this way for display, so on...

Im more familiar with the JBl then the non JBl setup but if it was me I'd wire the front sail tweeters directly from the front lower speakers.
Edit, nevermind I reread your thread, looks like you did do that.

And the three wire setup in the instructions are for a retailer to wire up a display for demo purposes so your only using the ground and the car connection wires.....

I got it. Thanks for all the help. I wired something wrong in the front passenger side. I think the polarity was switched. Everything is good now. Thanks again for all your help. An amp might be in my future but everything sounds good for now.

Time for phase III of the upgrade. Addition of the amp. I am installing a Kenwood Exceleon X801-5 5 channel amp. I'm going to put it under the passenger seat. This is the older model amp from Kenwood, but it is very similar to the new one. Major difference is you can't directly add a base adjustment nob. I got it on Amazon for about half the price of the current model. The speakers already sound good with the HU, so I'm pretty excited to hear it with the amp addition.

Bet it's gonna sound righteous! Kenwood has incredible sound and adjustability, especially with a channel amp. I'm jealous. Don't have an amp. Hmmmm.....next mod?

Stage IV will be a sub. That might have to wait till Christmas. So far, most of my purchases have been a previous model, so the cost is very respectable. The Focal speakers are awesome. I have those in front and wish I would have put the same thing in back. I have JL audio now, but are just a little different.

I have the same amp for the past few years. solid !
I upgraded to Kappa speakers all around and the sound been good but FOCAL is hard to beat. Like you I bought last year models for good prices on Amazon. even got a Pioneer 10" subwoofer box there.

Do you happen to have the link or model for the subwoofer box? I am looking for one to put behind the rear seats.

Would it fit under the rear seat or does the crew max not have enough room under them?

There isn't much room under the Crew Max seats.
