This 'truck' seems to be the perfect answer to a question that nobody is asking.

I would totally dig it if it looked anything like this concept pic:

    upload_2019-11-24_19-36-33.jpg

To me, this looks way cooler than the actual thing.

Honestly, the production vehicle won't look anything like the one they unveiled anyway. Those angles will never pass pedestrian safety regs, and the "bulletproof" unbending shell means no crumple zone to absorb energy in an accident. The design was purely to generate conversation, and it has been a massive success on that front.

    Edit: spelling

I was googling up an image to say the same thing.

So, if you put a big diesel generator in the back and used it to keep the power level up on the batteries...how many MPG would you get?

Yeah, fair point — nice that it has such a strong exterior, but it does make you wonder what that means for crash test ratings.

Not sure where I saw it, but pretty sure they said because it weighed over 10,000 lbs gvw, it didnt have to meet most of the safety standards, like no airbags.

The looks of the release truck did exactly what they wanted. It got people talking. It will get changed in some ways to help it appeal to the masses, but for now it did what it was supposed to.

Not sure where the design team went for drinks the night they came up with the body lines on their so called truck but it’s uglier than a mud fence. No way that thing has enough personality to cover that much ugly.

Honest question: Does anyone know how many deposits the S, X or 3 got in the first few days after their reveal?

200k is awesome, but is it even realistic to assume most will be fulfilled? I know someone that received their 3 three to four months early because folks were backing out of their preorder.

I hope the truck is a success and motivates the rest of the industry. But there are a lot of FOMO self-righteous ass-hats here in the Seattle area that will do something like put a fully refundable $100 down just so they can be seen as part of the green crowd. It’s all about image. Most will not buy one.

Do those who are prepaying get interest on the refunded money? Guess not, diabolical financial scheme.

Being raised to be a little farmer, we've been "green" our whole lives. Waste not, want not, simple as that. Yup, this CyberTruk will live on a farm op..

This truck has nothing to do with that for us; 690HP, 810 FT/LBs of torque, 35s, air ride with 16" of clearance and a sun roof. The seats have been described as Volvo-like plush with +plus+ head clearance for 6'5"+ folks. It's plain fun and function.
By the actual production run it will have become more refined for NHSTA bolt ons, etc...

IIRC the Model 3 had 115,000 deposits in the first 24 hrs, and it hadn't been revealed yet. Guesstimates on the CyberTruk cancellations are about 50%, but everybody ALWAYS underestimates Musk. This gets people in the door, even crossing the mental threshold to buy an X/3/Y in the meantime. It's brilliant marketing. Ford's E-Mach in comparo has about 12,000 $500 deposits so far; Made in China and Mexico. It's all changing.

I can appreciate all the venom on this build. It's a HUGE departure from even a Raptor or built out Platinum/PRO/LTD. What I wanted in a Tundra was a LTD/TRD/4x4 that was off-road friendly w/o needing to throw another $5K at it for off-road fun. Longshot in my lifetime...? I guess not anymore, but it's with a Tesla Made in USA. American jobs, wow what a concept.

The next transfer of wealth comes from Utility and health care sales. Buy that solar array and plug it in, selling excess back to the utility for more e-profits. Call us self-righteous ass-hats, we've heard it all from when we went organic on our farms. Know why farm exports are crippled with POTUS Trump? Nobody can export their GMO-based products anywhere, except to China. Hello? It don't take a crystal ball or 20/20 hindsight to see where this is all headed. (foreclosures and land grabs) It's all changing.

Watch Bloomberg and MSNBC's talking heads during the day, the wall street people-they HATE Tesla and Musk. Why? He's smarter than they are, and he's not sponsored by oil & gas like they are. KISS. It's all changing for the better with Musk and a lot of people don't want it to happen. ($$$) They want YOU to continue unquestioningly sending Federal tax dollars to D.C. where they send it to subsidize the overseas ops for GM and Dodge and Ford and Shell and Exxon/Mobil operations. Get mad and ornery at them, not Tesla.

Tesla had to do something to stand out. Why buy a normal looking truck from Tesla when Ford/Toyota/Gm/Dodge are all about to do the same electric thing?

smart move. Most people buy trucks as status symbols, most people like standing out. The truck segment has the highest loyalty in the automobile industry. If Tesla made a normal looking truck no one would be interested. Also, solar panels on the bed cover? Great for camping.

IDK what "the Alley" is/was. Remember 35 years ago when the Glocks came out? Deja vu. GM is just catching up to the design(s) of my '99 F250 for the Silverado line, and the Taco for their Colorado. Who needs to wait another 35 years?
