I've got the second style. It's not a bad size but to be fair I use it more for locating the rear bumper than anything else.

I like the OEM look better. Curious, what does one do when they need to remove their tail gate and a camera with wire like yours is attached?

Have you compared the electrode to that of a new plug for wear? I ask because when I changed out my Denso plugs the electrode was warn to the point that it barely extended past the porcelain tip and I guessed the gap to be at around .080" (though my engine had no detrimental signs from this huge gap). I have no idea how many miles on those plugs as I bought the truck used, but it was more than the 10,000 I put on it before changing. Makes me wonder if Denso is using a softer material for their electrodes and one that wears too quickly. Is there an alternative plug to Denso that holds up well and fires reliably?

I'm curious too am and considering piecing a quick disconnect together in case the need to remove the tailgate arises. Though thru 30+ years of truck ownership I've only removed a tailgate once...

I’ve thought about getting connectors from a newer Toyota with the backup camera and making that work. But not sure if I will. Not like I remove my

@Professional Hand Model Yes, I indeed saw those frames and had identified the "assembly", but cheap me only wants to buy the short bent hose part as the rest of the assembly, though rusty at the short straps used to bolt down the assembly, is still in good working order. Still, a big thanks for the tips on acquiring the better drawings.

The electrodes actually seemed quite worn down for such low mileage. I'm going to pick up a set of NGK Iridiums today and swap them out.

I crawled under the truck to pop this trim piece off but apparently they are just stuck on with adhesive... Does anyone know if the pieces on the doors are the same way?

I'd like to sand and paint them off the truck.

Here is a side by side comparison of NGK’s. One new. One with 8k miles. I did not measure them even though I do have a gapper. By visual, the older plug looks ‘opened’ probably due to wear off. These are cheaper copper core plugs compared to Iridiums. They are spec’d for 2002. My thoughts are to check on the plugs more often (6-8k miles) as they become loose via mileage/use. I know this from personal experience.

Lots of work involved on this one. I’d paint those strips white and save yourself the hassle. Maybe the rear trim is glued? I know the doors are clipped into holes. Slippery slope!

@Professional Hand Model I like the idea of marking your plugs themselves rather than the little box/sleeve they come in (my "old" method, now). It brings to light the assembly of my engine following the timing belt replacement, wherein my neighbor marked with a yellow paint pen all the timing marks (a given procedure for sure) AND every single bolt and nut that he had tightened and torqued, so as not to miss any. Later on down the road I will erase those marks that are visible, but for now the assurance that everyone of them was indeed tightened sits well with me. I think it is a good habit to acquire.

The measurements will be 22” from center to fender bottom.

No sir. Nothing on pinch weld. To Eliminate any rubbing:

    - Removed mud guards with the 3 screws that hold it in place. If you don’t do that, the tires will rub on full turns (photo below).

    - Used 1.5” Wheel Spacers to push it out and away from UCA and make it flush with finders.

That truck needs paint correction so badly that it hurts to look at it.

No holes on the one pictured. That's what I'm asking about the ones on the doors. Sounds like the pop off just like the fender flares. I may just paint them while on the truck.

Correct. Ones in the doors pop off pretty hard. I just removed mine and replaced with some small universal molding without the chrome.

Pics? No matter what I've tried that chrome still looks like crap. I'm going to paint the plastic black and try some carbon trim where the chrome is now.

A backup camera and headunit are high on my list of things to do. I like how you mounted yours to the handle. Do you find it interferes at all with hand placement when using the latch?

As for my truck, I've noticed a bit of a clunk happening recently. Haven't really chased it down yet. I need to pull a few things out of the box to make sure they're not the culprit but I'm reasonably certain it's coming from my front end. I have a feeling a front end rebuild is on the list for spring.

The camera being in the middle does make you pay attention when you reach for the handle but after a dozen or so times it'll just be what you do. A possible option is to mount it way over to the right but then the view will not be centered...

Sky is the limit on colors. I used blue tape and painters plastic mask (about $16 total) to do all around trims/bumper paint. This is my 3rd color scheme on my side trims.

@FirstGenVol IIRC, you did plastic dips black last time on yours? Peel it off before you go with your new scheme.

Thank you. I’m considering doing a subtle skinny silver accent along the crevice folds to kick it another notch, but probably won’t as its not worth the time. I need to focus on the inside painting scheme with my time at this point.

I tried to plastic dip 1 side white with disastrous results. Both sides are ready to go, just need sanding.

I hear you. The plastic dips is junk IMO. Not knocking you.

You should try the Rustoleum bed liner black as a primer/base and to give it texture. Then coat it with white over top. Do multiple light coats on the white. The bed liner stuff you’ll just need 1-2 light coats. I sprayed my red over the top of the bed liner black so you can use that as an example. My ash tray red is another example on my build page. Sprayed right over the black experiment, but like they say you’ll always go back.
