Can't find the previous thread on this. What is the factory tint % on the rear windows of a 2016 DC? Getting the front tinted tomorrow. Most likely want to match the back, but not sure. Anyone have pics of this (preferably on a silver truck) ? Thanks!

    Alot of them
If you go darker on the front, they can put a layer over the factory on the rear to match it.

20% is standard for factory rear tint. I matched it with 20% on the fronts on my old Dakota years ago. Came out really good.

Note though, Make sure you check with your state laws on window tinting. I know Ohio, you're not allowed to go darker than 50% but people still do anyway. I've heard of stories where if you get pulled over, the officer can make you peel the tint off right then and there.

Anytime. I'm actually wanting to do my windows too. Probably will wait until spring though. Something about vehicles and window tint just seems right

Could be. 2-5% wont be really noticeable though if comparing front to back windows.

Yeah the factory has to be 20% or lower. Got my front's tinted at 35% which is the legal limit on tint here in Mass and it's a night and day difference still with the rears. Still matches better than nothing though!

just go to your local tint shop and have them use their tint meter. Its as simple as that. Worked great for me

    See signature line
Factory = 20% (and if you are going to a reputable place they will have a meter they can throw over the top edge of the factory tinted glass to verify that)

Guy I had come to the house to do the two fronts told me factory is 20%. He does some of the local dealership tints for them.

I did the matching 20%. Just be advised, with the front windshield not being tinted they really don't match because of the light coming in. It doesn't bother me, just FYI.

Ended up getting 20% on mine. Thrilled even more than I expected to be.

This doesn't sound right, if you peel off the window tint right then and there you are left with a cloudy residue that will prevent you from seeing out the window resulting in a greater hazard as opposed to leaving the darker tint on. This can make the police officer who made you remove the tint film liable for any damages you incur as a result of the tint removal. Maybe a "fix it" ticket, but no officer will make you peel it off.

Didn't know you can peel off the tint! Isn't it glued or chemically bonded? I was told the tint lasts forever and won't bubble.

Could also have it towed instead then.

Nope tint is just a self adhesive film and how long it lasts depends on the quality of film and install. Factory tint or privacy glass is however a permanent coating on the glass.

How long do you think a good tint would last without bubbling? I see some old cars with bubbles and they look bad.

I've had cars with tint still look great after 6 years but that's as long as I've had the same car for. There are many variables. The quality of the film and how well is was applied is most important and also how long it sits in the sun also has an effect in how long it takes to fade. I've seen cars that the tint looks purple from fading and also seen bubbles but I always assume it was due to a poor quality film and application.

20% is on factory backs. I matched mine in front and visor strip, but thought front windows didn’t have any tint at all. Turns out they had a barely visible factory tint so I had it removed then got the 20% so it matched perfectly. If not the fronts will be a little darker.
