Can we discuss STREET tires? I seldom go off-road. But I do have to deal with NY winters and snow.

Can we discuss a good high performance tire for guys that don’t off-road? I do know the size will be 275/55-20. I think it will be the Bridgestone Dueler H/L ALENZA. I had them on the Ridgeline and they were not a very good tire, especially in the snow. The Michelins Defender LTX M/S is a much better tire.

Just want to know what you people have tried and liked.

Also, what other (bigger) sizes can go on the stock rim without issues?

    Thanks!

You won't get much better than the defenders for these trucks. Best tire I have ever owned

Really? Darn, and if you are in CT, you get snow. Maybe they did a tread upgrade.

Yup I am in CT and they have done well in all conditions. Better than any AT tire I have owned (bfs ko1, bridgestone revo2, hankook atm) and much better than the stock duelers. The defender ltx are much better. They havent changed the tread since the changed the name from ltx ms2 to defender.
The sipping is really good for a non snow tire. When I pull in my garage in the snow and look out at my tracks I can clearly see the sipe marks in the snow.

I had the Michelin Defender's on my '14 CM , awesome tire. Mud, snow, quiet and great wear and they were the P metric tire. When these Alenzas wear out I will put the Michelins on my '19 and for what it's worth I am near Albany.

Been on Michelin MS, MS2, and then Defenders since 2004. Quiet. Excellent all weather. Great in sand and snow. All LTX (light truck versions).

    Highly recommend!

I tried running a high performance warm weather tire on my Corolla. They were useless in the snow. Guess you do not get much deep snow in Atlanta.:)

But as far as an everyday tire for NY not sure this would be the best choice. However, I enjoyed reading your Tundra build.

I started this post because I wanted to see what is out there. I have a fondness for Michelins. I run Michelins on the Ridgeline, I run Michelin Pilot Sports A/S3 (high performance all season) on my Corolla XRS and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 on the Chevy (street and road race). I see others like Michelins too.

Pudge mentions the Bridgestone Defender's are a great tire. The truck should be here in Feb. My guess is the tire has been updated since I last ran a set. In Conn there is snow and from the post, they are doing well.

The TOYO's are awesome when air temperatures are above 60, anything colder than that and they ride like a sack of bricks - I roll on Michelins the rest of the year. I would like to find 18" Michelin performance street tires that are 32" or 33" tall - ones with a speed rating of 130 or so, that would be ideal for me.

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.
Read reviews on Michelin LTX AT2s. Highway quite and smooth with decent off-road (snow) manners too.

I run Michelins on all my autos, simply the best.

Luck and enjoy those Toyotas. : ^ )))

No, the defenders are made by Michelin not Bridgestone.

Try the nittos 420s. I used to run 305/50/20 very good in rain for street tire.

You find the Michelin Pilot sport A/S3 to be loud? Looking at getting a set for my Audi A3.

They are a bit loud. The best analogy I can make is they sound like you're in a prop plane. But not nearly as load as the Michelin Earth (made for gas mileage). If you do not have snow, hen go for the Pilot Sport PS2

While I don't run "street tires" on the truck I do run the Michelin Defender LTX M/S on the AWD RX350 and will concour they are great tires for daily use and in the snow. The Lexus gets around better in the light stuff 2-6" better than the Tundra with KO2's.

I do deal with a lot of snow, I have Nokian Hakkapeliittas 8 for that. Just need something when snow comes early and don't have snows mounted yet. You never know living around here.

I didn't want to have 2 sets of tires to keep mounting and dismounting. It gets expensive. So does getting another set of rims. I was hoping that one tire might fit one need except in areas that get a lot of snow. Pudge likes the Bridgestones. They do seems to have updated the tread pattern. Michelins also are a highly regarded tire. Surprised that nobody mentioned a BFG or Goodyear tire.

Pudge likes them. All three of us are in the North East and get snow. Just curious, what do you not like about them. My main complaint was snow traction. But the tread pattern is not the same as the set I had.

I would go with the Michelin Defender LTX. Through the years I've had all versions of this tire and they have always worked very well. The newer models just keep being improved upon. For a non-three peak marked tire they are amazing good in the snow. Not the most aggressive looking but comfortable and liable - kinda like my Glock 23.

@T-Guy69 I believe Pudge likes the Michelin Defenders; not the Bridgestone Duellers. I don’t think anyone on this site likes the Duellers.

I just purchased falken wildpeaks in 275/60r20. Probably overkill for southern CA but should do the job. Find out how they do in snow in about a month

I agree with @Johnsonman on the LTX AT2. I have to drive in the snow a lot in St Louis as I'm a plow driver for the county and have not run into any issues, also most of my miles are highway/commute and they have performed well there too wear is great, quiet, but will definitely get you where you need to go, and reasonably priced. I'm definitely a fan of them. Have gotten them well into the 90's mph wise and have had no issues there if you're talking high speed type stuff.

I can;t wait until me Duelers wear out enough to justify getting Michelins! I've always had good luck with them.

Getting rid of the Duelers, no Michelin’s for me. So far it’s between Grabbers and Scorpions
