Have you inspected your brake pads?? As they wear the fluid must travel further and therefore the level in the master cylinder goes down. Sometimes, if you have a "smart" master brake cylinder, the idiot light will go on on the dash.

I think your pads are worn.

Have you checked your brake pad material? Possibly all 4 pads are about shot leading to lower fluid in the reservoir. Not sure if that would lead to a softer pedal or not though..

Weird, you should see more brake fluid after new pads. Did you notice a fluid level difference before& after?

Not wrong, not to offend you but you fired the truck up and pumped the brakes right?

Brake fluid isn't good for life; it absorbs water (to a point) and heat cycles break it down. It's worth bleeding some fluid every brake change.

It would not hurt to bleed all four corners.

A 2015, you are due for a complete brake fluid drain/replace.

I had seizing or failing calipers causing this problem on my 09, got them replaced and went back to like new brake feel.

Try to get a brake fluid flush. Might need it after almost 5 years and its relatively cheap/easy.

I had this issue with my sedan over the winter, I didn't drive my car for 2 weeks in the northeast winter. I had very spongy brakes as I drove after 2 weeks. Took it to a local shop and all it took was to bleed the entire systems and all back to normal.

was it hard to push back the pistons? some recommend opening the bleeder valve/screw a little and then bleed … that will also gets some of "dirty" fluid out. some systems can be more sensitive as far as pushing the fluid back.
I've done it both ways. i didn't mess with the bleeder valve last time i changed pads with one car but i did it with an older car to get some fresh fluid in.

It's not like you have drum brakes in the back......low pads wont do this on 4WDB. Check for air in the system, using a bottle connected to a hose off the bleeder. In the bottle you have some brake fluid, make sure rubber hose is below fluid level. Now with bleeder opened, pump the pedal and watch the bottle, and see how much air comes out as bubbles. This is practically FREE, before condemning anything else in the system. Then try a flush. If that doesn't work, you probably have a bad mater cylinder. It could have an internal leakage, that could also irrigate the fluid and cause air in the lines.

I joined to see what is possible
to piggy back on this thread, is there a particular brake fluid they recommend for our truck like oem from dealership or can anything off the shelf from autozone work?

Normally people say use the Toyota brand, but any dot3 will work.

Loosen the nuts on the master cylinder and pull it off the booster a little and make sure you're not losing fluid into the booster.

Change your brake bleed nipples and add some Teflon. Pressure bleed if you can.

Since you say you have new brakes, top off the fluid and see if it goes down. If so, then you have a leak.
