Long tow coming up, looking for advice.

I'm retiring from the Coast Guard in 50 days and have been a geo-bachelor here in Miami for the last two years. The wife is coming down for the ceremony and I'll be towing my 2018 Mallard M28 (total loaded weight of probably 7,000 or so) with my 2018 Tundra Limited w/ my OV tune. Have air bags that I won't use unless I need to, and just ordered a Blue OX sway pro setup. I'll be towing from Davie Florida to Hope Mills North Carolina, and it's flat all the way home. I have King Coilovers, which I can adjust the dampening on. Also have 17 wheels and LT tires, instead of my factory 20s, but the difference between them is 3lbs (heavier in the 17's).

I'm not sure what to expect with MPG, but I'm guessing 7-10 as I plan to go 60 mph (or maybe 65). When I towed it down here I had a Titan XD with the diesel, and a 50 gallon Titan tank. With the Tundra I have a 38 gallon tank, so I'm guessing 150-200 mile fill ups, and I've downloaded the Flying J app to stagger my fill ups. I don't plan on going lower than 1/4. I'll also be taking the Florida Turnpike to I95 and take it all the way home.

I've towed plenty in my career and life, but mostly with bigger trucks and Coast Guard boats in tow. Any and all advice with what I'm planning is greatly appreciated.

Oh, I did forget that I just bought an OBD2 adapter for monitoring temps in trans, coolant and oil as my BlueDriver did not read them. But thank you!

 

I think you'll be fine, use the airbags since you have them and just monitor everything as normal!

Just like others have mentioned you sound prepared and experienced. My only suggestion...I'm not sure what PSI you run in your tires for "comfort" driving but definitely bump up that number for towing, somewhere close to the max load inflation for the tire you run.

Does your truck have telescopic mirrors?

Checked your trailer bearings/brakes? A jack that will work if you need to change out a trailer tire?

I have the factory one that came with my 2018. I have seen where people have had issues with them, so have looked into the Tekonsha if I need to swap it out. I do plan to take the RV on the road so I can setup the new hitch and to also test out the brake controller.I also forgot that I did just add the tow mirrors from 1AAuto (and I love them).

Brakes, tires, and bearings are good and lubed, but I will grease them here again in a few weeks. I also bought one of those roll on ramps for changing out tires on dual axle RVs so that it lifts one into the air. I have the dual ARB air compressor installed in the engine bay of the Tundra, so I have air if I need it, but will ensure all tires are setup right.

I have a 300 blackout pistol in a pelican case w/ a sig optic and at least 60 rounds (hopefully enough). I have two TDY trips to Blackwater (and Academy as it is called now). If they want it that bad, they can take the RV, lol.

I run about 40 in the front and 45 in the back with the LT tires. I think they can go to 80 psi on the Discover AT3 XLT, but I'll verify and increase the pressure if need be. I have 75 feet of air hose so I can inflate tires on the RV if I need to while hitched up.

 

Sounds like you are good to go, i have always tried to balance the weight in the trailer and will tow just fine.
