Any Experience with JBA Single Side Exit Exhaust

I am looking at the exhaust below in the link.

I know DirtyDeeds is the preferred exhaust, but I am looking for a full cat-back with the tip. Also don't want dual exhaust or dumped exhaust. DirtyDeeds is also a little too rich for my blood. My exhaust is rusted and needs to be replaced so I may as well replace it with something with a little more noise than stock. Does anyone have any experience with this set up? It would be going on an 07 Double Cab short bed with 5.7. I don't want it if the drone is too bad or if it is obnoxiously loud.

I would rather not buy dirty deeds. They look like good systems but im not ready to spend $700 on exhaust.

 

When you replace your exhaust, keep the pipe the same size as stock. Make that plain to whoever installs it. The "off the shelf" catbacks that most shops offer aren't designed for our multi-valve engines. Have your rusted pipes replaced but do yourself a favor first and call Keith (1-760-877-4234) about a muffler/ resonator price. After you explain your situation, I'll bet he offers you a solution you can live with. His products are built for our engines, not pushrod designs like most others.

 

This would steer me away from the JBA kit, the pipe diameter is too large.

 

Yes Sir. Like most of the 'universal-fit' exhaust systems, they're designed for pushrod engines. Keith's Tundra exhaust systems are built for our V8's.

 

I wasn’t either! I’ve also had exhausts in the past that drone! And it can drive you and the family bat shit crazy on a road trip!

 

My advice.
Leave your system stock until you can justify spending a little more for a BAMuffler system.

 

If you can, just have a little patience and save to go with @dirtydeeds or the TRD system. It is worth it!

While it’s tempting to buy now and save money to get ‘your fix’ but trust me, it’s worth the wait.

Are your kits full cat - back systems? I need everything all the way back to the tip. I wont do dual exhaust and just want a nice single exit in the stock location. also I am not looking for anything too loud and I don't want it to drone at all under any throttle position. I tow a travel trailer pretty regularly and my wife would kill me if the exhaust drones.

A. We have several different systems with multiple options. The system that I recommend for your situation is this:

The system is intended and designed to use a stock tailpipe. I recommend getting one from your local dealership, or used from Craigslist. The stock tailpipe is 2 3/4” diameter. This size is super rare and only found on a Tundra, that’s why nobody replicates that exact size and uses either 3” or 2.5” duals. Either loses a lot of low end torque and ruins the way the truck drives.

A. Our 10” is the perfect system for ya then. Literally anything other than stock will be too loud based on your needs. Stock has a quarter wave resonator built into it. Our 10” system also does.

 

@dirtydeeds You say duals ruin the truck yet the TRD is a dual set up? Would Toyota develop something that ruins a truck?

 

Thank you for the response. That is exactly what I am looking for. I now will only have to wait until your standard 10 system goes on an extremely good sale. Hopefully I can find a new or slightly used stock tailpipe somewhere.

I'll offer my feedback based on my experience. I had the TRD exhaust on my Tundra for about 15K miles before I switched it out for an OEM single outlet system that I found locally.

I thought the TRD exhaust sounded awesome under acceleration, but the slight helicopter sound at low rpm cruising speeds under 70 mph on the highway got a little tiring. So I went back to stock for quiet.

As far as performance, the TRD may have pulled a little stronger in the mid to top range compared to OEM. Some of that could be placebo because of the throaty sound. But - as much as I wanted to deny it - the true duals do loose some low end torque compared to the single OEM exhaust. Now that I've experienced both back to back - so to speak. I noticed it mostly in the 45 to 65 mph range in 6th gear - especially on inclines. The truck doesn't maintain speed as easy as it does with the single OEM system. I never noticed gear hunting, but I usually forced the downshift into 5th with the TRD whereas the OEM will just lug along fine in 6th. Since I don't tow and don't live in a mountainous region, the loss in low end torque wouldn't have been enough for me to get rid of the TRD system. Quiet highway operation was my reason.

Toyota didn’t develop the trd system. They contracted that to a 3rd party.

it sells like water. Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke

But if you care about the way that your truck drives I highly recommend a single exhaust that exits thru the stock tailpipe, assuming you’re keeping the stock exhaust manifolds.

Are you at liberty to say who builds the TRD exhaust, or give a clue. Always wondered, but could never find anything that says who.

 

I’ve had both and tow with both and can’t say I really noticed a negative with the TRD PRO? I agree with the science/logic of it was just curious about your input
