1st Gen Exhaust Clips

So, for a new guy like me...

What's the difference between the two?

Resonated is modified exhaust to change the sound?

Non resonated is just however it came from the factory?

 

@Tundra2 I'm pretty sure it's the other way around. You'll have a resonator upstream from the muffler. It does change the sound, but I do not know in what way.

 

resonators typically "refine" the sound. gets rid of rasp. mufflers do as they sound, muffle the sound.

 

That sounds right. I have had some people recommend I don't remove a resonator if I like the sound of my engine, but just want it louder. They said to just get a different muffler.

Personally, I think the 4.7 sounds great. Especially during those mid-RPM ranges...it has such a nice growl. Its sound is further enhanced by the fact that if you floor it, it makes a ton of noise but you don't have to worry about breaking any speed limits for two or three minutes.

You must have a super charger. These trucks are reliable, but they are sooooo slow.

 

But they sound like a rocket ship if your running no muffler.
I remember putting headers on my 85 f150 4.9l I6, and starting it to test the new carb and msd. I had the biggest smile, and it felt like I was at nascar, and that was only at 1700rpm

Yeah, its sure to be a bit quicker than my DC. I do wish these things came with an extra 50-100hp, though. Even with the 3.91 rear end it can barely get out of its own way. My 2000 Navigator smoked this thing

Then again, those early Navigators with the Intech V8 were very underappreciated. Not trying to say it was spectacular, but they had an unfair bad rep.

In this video I cranked it, and let run a second. It was already warm from me pulling into the lower yard. Revved to about 2,500 RPM, let it fall back down to idle, and shut her down.

 

@Darkness I went ahead and recorded a driving video. I'll upload it when I get back from town. What do you think of the other video?

 

@Tundra2 sounds better than I thought, I haven't seen many V6 to hear them so I was picturing dead quiet.

Also, what happened to more than you realize? Lol. I always assumed there were very few V6's. On this forum I am aware of 2. Including mine.

I have the resonated version on my 02 4.7. For your v6 tundra I would recommend keeping your stock resonator/y pipe in place and get the 2525XL to keep the raspiness away.

Im trying to upload an audio clip. I’m not real tech savvy. I’m working on it. The part number for the muffler I have is JT2525XL. I got mine after aero merged with jones turbine or something to that effect.

anyone have this? im considering it because eventually when i do the headers it would be simple to just Y out to a 3 inch pipe into this.. id imagine it would flow enough not to hinder performance.

 

Sir, my dad had that banks system on his 2006 and the muffler came apart at the welds on both ends We were both stunned that it came apart on something that expensive. We kept the piping and the tip and bought a magnaflow muffler of equal size and we haven’t had a problem since. I own the truck now I don’t want you or anybody here to waste that kind money when there are better options.

 

01 tundra. Resonator deleted, straight pipes with 2 spintech 9000s, 3” rear side tips

Pretty much what has been said. Resonated versions are going to more ‘tame’ in the sense of sound. Something my dad would probably want.

 

Sorry guys, I don’t know what the heck is going on. Tried uploading the clip and the site gives me an error. Most of my information on the AT2525XL came from threads posted by a member on tundra solutions named highway lizard. I should be able to email a sound clip If anybody is interested. Out of the 3 mufflers I’ve tried on my 2002, my recommendation would be the 20 inch dynomax super turbo. The only problem is that it’s aluminumized. So I can’t see it lasting very long in rust states.

The super turbo was the only muffler that felt like I gained something or at the very least, didn’t lose anything. When I had the banks catback I felt like I lost low end torque and the drone was deafening. I also felt a power loss with the JT2525XL but it cleaned up the drone nicely. If you’re goal is power and sound, I would contact Keith @dirtydeeds.

man. i need to stop watching videos with v8s and turbos. its giving me the itch to turbocharge my tundra, but i know that would end up with a lot of money tied up into a bottom end to push way more power than i need and now im 20 ft down in the rabbit hole

 

Stock bottom end. No tune. Just fuel mods, 400 hp to the ground. 7-8lbs boost. E85. Big injectors.

there’s no need for a bottom end unless you want big power.
