Alright, just let my wife know how much this stuff costs and rationalized it. The price took her breath a bit, but she said “I get it.”

 

Are the aluminum skids only good for one hit? Or do they hold up? I don’t want to replace an expensive skid every time I “use” it! I’m sure it depends on the hit, but it seems steel may hold up a little better for a bit longer.

Go for the White Knuckle Sliders. You will never regret it when it comes to protecting your rig.

 

Depends on what you are doing. It will hold up against small rocks, but I doubt it will be able to take full weight of the vehicle. I will be in bad terrain, but nothing I will be dropping full weight on top of. Just the occasional scrapes here and there.

 

Thanks for the info everyone. I think I've narrowed it down to the White Knuckle sliders.

I had to add some non-skid to mine for critical spots here in Colorado. In snow and mud they are super slippery.

 

What is the weight of these?

 

Each slider will weight around 80lbs

 

Agree with what most have said. Definitely go for the White Knuckle sliders. I will be replacing my Nerf bars with these when I find the extra cash in my couch.

 

Yeah, I mentioned the cost to my wife too...that's why I have a thread started on "DIY rock sliders" and fabricated my own using 2x2" square tube (3/16") with 1/4" plate for the mounting brackets. Made them bolt on. Not easy making bolt ons. But total cost is about $220-$225, steel, hardware and paint/bed liner spray. Does not include the consumables (grinding disc and welding wire/gas) but that wasn't that much. Maybe $20. Labor was just my time, but worth the savings.

 

The Toyota parts market is kind of goofy.. Sliders that use the same amount of material and have the same production cost/time are 3-4x the cost of the same type of sliders for any Jeep out there, including the Gladiator.

On top of that almost every version of these sliders are exactly the same.

I'm not knocking the manufacturers. Clearly they are going to charge what they can get people to pay for these. I talked in depth to a manufacturer that is local to me and they flat out told me how crazy it is that they can sell their Tundra/4runner/Tacoma sliders for 3x what they can sell almost any model of Jeep sliders for.

Some of these places you're paying $1500 by the time it's powder coated and shipped. Insane!

 

These look nice! Are these for Crew Cabs only for now? Or do you also have them available for Double Cabs?

 

Jeep guys probably can’t spend the money on upgrades like the Toyota crowd can. Cost more to keep the Jeep running.....as an owner of both makes

 

That’s the way to go if you have the equipment! You may have posted this earlier, but if not please post pictures. And you got a steal of a price on your tubing. When I shopped around 15 years ago for tubing for a much smaller 1st gen Tacoma, tubing was at least twice what you paid.

I’m not the greatest welder, but I can do stick and MIG. Just don’t have the equipment or space. For those like me who live near a vocational community college that offers an evening welding class, that might be an option for DIY sliders, bumpers, etc., all with the help of an instructor. The last welding class I took there was a guy who built his own trailer in class. You just have to buy your own steel.

 

I only had to pay for some tube steel. I already had some, and I got the 1/4" plate steel for the mounting plates/brackets from a friend. It had bad surface rust, so I put some sweat equity into cleaning it up, then used plasma cutter to cut all of my plates and gussets from it.

 

I just ordered a pair of Rocky Road super sliders, no kick out, no top plate, angled, matte black powdercoat. $724 OTD with local pick up.

Very reputable local brand. Pretty excited to pick these up!

Yeah my friend had a scrap piece that appeared to be an 8’ x 4’ piece that had been hacked in. Prob 3.5 x 5’ of useable players steel. I used my plasma to cut it up into useable flat stock and plate steel pieces

They're great at building armor - not so great at website design or social media.

I'm not a hard core off-roader, but I've definitely been places I wish I had the protection offered by rock sliders.

I contacted White Knuckle, they are highly recommended in some of the above posts, and they said they could fabricate a slider that has the square rail that runs along the bottom of the truck, but without the round tubing that projects out to the sides.

I just don't think I would need any more protection than that.

They said they would make that type of rail for $200 less than the rails advertised on their website.

I"m seriously thinking of going this route.

Thats what Id like for my Double cab. In DOM un coated I can do that myself because it gets messed up in shipping anyway.
I wonder if any of these companies are in Utah so i can pick up local and skip shipping cost and hassle
