Sem interior paint. I prep with the sem prep, put the sem adhesion promoter and then the colour coat.

Interesting, what phone are you using? Not saying any shouldn't work but I know coworkers have had issues especially with older phones.

Seeing pictures of your garage encourages me to save more for my shop. Sorry I keep bringing that up so much. If I say it, and type it then I will be more cautious with my money. Also, great work!

Washed it finally. Thinking an iron-x, clay bar, polish and wash day is coming soon though. Just need to figure out which products I wanna use. You guys like CarPros and Chemical Guys?

I dont know if you can buy it at walmart in person for now. I'm more of a Target guy but Target has stuff like that blocked off here, they basically are selling food and hygiene/cleaning supplies but nothing else right now.

Honestly, anything they sell is better than never waxing a vehicle. Chemical Guys products are good stuff. I use them.

(Camper conversion underway.) Rebuilt engine w/265K miles, A.R.E. camper shell (w/cab pass-through, rooftop fan, and side windows delete), bedlinered steel ladder rack (w/wooden rooftop deck and hammock mount), all LED lights (red dash, 4" side floods, 32" rear bar), Android head unit, 1.5" lift from Bilstein 5100 struts, 32" DuraTrac tires on factory rims, 1.5" wheel spacers, Moog suspension parts, SuperSprings leaf kit, diff drop, Reese trailer brake control, GoRhino Hitch Step, debadged, F-150 rear bumper, Sequoia center console unit upgrade, partial rear bench seat delete, dashcam, aftermarket speakers, 50% sound deadening coverage, custom tools unit.

When you're the only Tundra (and possibly the only pickup truck) with a roof rack deck.

As part of my off-grid camper conversion, I dreamt of having a deck to maximize the usable roof rack space and extend my mobile real estate while still being able to haul long or heavy cargo. Being 7 feet off the ground provides the optimal vantage point for stargazing, outdoor camping, hammocking, picnicking, zombie sniping, and napping. While I'm kidding about some of those, I'm not kidding about the functionality of this platform.

I'd debated using alternate materials, like composite decking, steel, or even plastic pallets. In the end, I built with 1"x6"x8' pressure-treated lumber to save costs, planning to fully seal the wood once dried in a few weeks/months, following up with a coat of black Monstaliner bedliner, to make the project more stealth and to match the rack itself. Some may prefer the natural wood look, but you can't go wrong with black. I made cutouts for the electrical conduit, mounting bracket access, and for the fan (will write a separate post), which required the middle boards have support underneath.

My mounting design is slightly over-engineered. I used 4 U-bolts, adding thic slices of steel that won't bend when tightened to the roof bars. On the front and back I mounted a 14ga slotted angle to those brackets, and screwed wood into them, preventing the boards' positions from moving. Everything kind of sandwiches together real nicely, and while the gaps aren't perfect, they are close enough. Most hardware was painted to keep away rust during the long process of waiting for the wood to dry, and I even put little end caps on exposed bolts. I'm about 95% done for now, I will make some middle cutout trim, throw on some handles where it's easiest to climb down, and add anchor points/rings for easy tie-downs.

One unexpected benefit is how this will keep my camper shell less exposed to the sun, allowing me to control climate easier in the summer.

This sturdy project took all of today to finish and was sooo satisfying both to see come together, and to see completed. I keep looking at my truck and thinking,
"Well, I have a deck now."

Let me know whether you think this is creative, or that my MPG will plummet! ;)

I hope you're a fan of another recent addition to my rig.

After patiently waiting to find an RV rooftop fan in the scrapyards for many months, I finally snagged one. I've seen the Fan-Tastic 1250 go for $230, and I got it for $10. Talk about a steal! It has reversible flow, different speeds, and a thermostat. Moves a lot of air.

The fan needed some TLC, though.

After a full disassembly, scraping away lots of old caulk, and plenty of dust, she looked pretty good! I made a 14x14 template out of cardboard, positioned it, and...

Then, I cut a hole in my roof. :O

This was the hole's early stages, eventually I got it real straight and clean. Also that big fiberglass piece fell and gouged my vinyl floor!

On Sprinter vans and such, they use aluminum or even plastic spacers to fill in the gaps; however, since mine were half an inch, I had to use wood. Don't worry, it's double-sealed and covered in caulk.

Butyl tape is very fun to work with. It's perfectly moldable and sticky. I used it abundantly in this project to fill any major ridges or holes, with much left over. I then screwed the fan into the roof and into a wooden frame I'd adhered to the ceiling, just so the screws would have something to bite.

The last step made me the most nervous, so I definitely procrastinated. I hate caulking because you really only get one try. After taping the area, I used Dicor lap sealant---a special caulk for this purpose---generously coating the screws, seams, edges, and spacers.

I'll be really surprised if this fan leaks.

I love posting on here more than Instagram because you guys care about the in-depth write-ups.

That’s a really great price for all of that. I could be wrong but another member had his welded up for 6-700, I don’t remember if that included blasting and powered. And good for you/them for making reinforcements. I put extra 2x2 supports for the wings and a few extra plates near the corners, and a extra bolt on each frame rail.

You can see on the far side where I added a gusset inside the bumper, it’s parallel with the length of the bumper. I did that on both sides. And there’s another one under the swing out pivot area, layed in the direction of the length of the truck
