It seems most people here like to go for the 295/70r18 (34.3") tire, but I'm torn between that or the 305/65r18 (33.6) tire.

    Help me decide

I just got my icon suspension installed. 3/1.5 lift overall. The wheels I'll go with will be +20 or +18 offset. I think clearance will be almost a wash either way. I'm just curious about people's opinions one way or there other.

Please let me know what you like/dislike about each option.

If it matters, my truck is mostly a daily driver with not a lot of offroad use. But when it is used offroad I'd rather not be lacking...

    Thanks in advance

skinnier would be better for you paint and slinging crap everywhere, also gets better mileage. But if you're lifted then maybe go for a 35+?
I have no lift and have 33s and they even look kinda small.

I think the 295 will be less likely to rub on the cab mount, pinch weld, fender liners, etc.

I have the same dilemma and will say most guys on here with 305/65r18 eventually switch to 295/70r18 or true 35s. I’m still on stockies with a 2.5” lift and plan on going with 295/70r18.

I would disagree. You're more likely to rub at those offsets due to width than height. I honestly think you're less likely to rub with that lift setup with the 298, and the +20 or +25 wheels. 18x9 +25 would be your best bet.

    Function before sparkle.
Do you tow heavier weights regularly? The extra inch does make a difference in power.

You disagree? I think we are saying the same thing........295/70r18 instead of 305/65r18.

I was saying I disagree with most people if what they are saying is go with 305/65 and later move to 295/70. If your plan is to go straight to 295 I agree with you.

I have a 3" lift up front and rubbed with 295/70 on an 18x9 +18. Based on where I'm rubbing I think adding 10mm width would make me rub even worse. Height isn't the problem as much as width is.

Post up pictures when you're done - I'd love to see what you end up doing.

I first had 305/65/18. Then went to 295/70/18. Both setups would slight brush over the can mount on the streets. I ended up doing the cmc just for the extra coushion. Now the 295’s look small and I want 35x12.5.

Take it from my experience and just do the cmc and slap some 35x12.5. Fits perfect on a. 3” level tundra. When a cmc is done correctly is looks factory.

    scs wheels is on 295’s.

With a 3/1.5 lift the 295/70 & 35/12.5 will fill out the wheel well a lot better. Using the Nitto Ridge Grappler as an example, there is only less than 1/2 inch difference in height:
    upload_2020-4-14_9-55-47.jpg

This is what 35/12.5’s look like on a 3” lift:

No, rarely do I tow anything. I am curious about the power difference though.

The 33 tire is what I have and could tell a difference from stock when towing.
I’m not going any bigger without re gearing I tow a lot.
Also bigger tires are mostly E rated so they are going to weigh more also.

Thanks. Since my truck is mostly a daily driver/commuter I'm assuming the slightly more narrow tire would be better for mpg... even if it's just a little.

just fyi, those tire widths are based on the measuring rim width. for every 1/2" in actual rim width difference, you have to add or subtract 0.2" of tire width. so, the actual tire width will be different based on the wheel size that is chosen. the OP didn't say which wheels that he is running, but if he has an 18x9 or an 18x10, then the actual widths are as follows:

    upload_2020-4-14_12-30-14.jpg

this is important to know when we are trying to fit big tires on our trucks and every millimeter of clearance matters.

I am in a similar boat, can not decide between 295/70/18 or 305/70/18. I really want the Ridge Grapplers, they only come in the 295 (the size currently on my stock pro with no rubbing). I think I could probably fit the 305 but not sure

Yes cab mount chop. Honestly between the tire sizes you are looking at. I wouldn’t bother the difference w mpg. Your driving a tundra. If you want mpg get a Prius.

between the 295 or 305 I would say go 295. But I still recommend considering a 35x12.5. BFG AT runs small for a 35x12.5. So think about that.

offset will also determine how much you will run. 25 seems to be the sweet number to minimize rubbing.
