Squeaking is Driving Me Crazy

I purchased a 2016 Tundra towards the end of the year last year and one thing that drives me nuts is how my Tundra is making this noise. I thought for sure it was something to do with the brakes because I hear it worse when slowing down to a stop. I started to notice that I would hear the same noise though when I am turning right and moving slow. I took it to a tire shop the first time who told me that I needed my rotors turned and new brake pads. I reached out to the dealership where I had purchased the vehicle who finally agreed to take a look. They turned the rotors and replaced the pads, but the next day, I am pulling out of my circular drive that is on an incline, and I hear the same noise. I brought it back to the same tire/brake shop who looked and verified that the rotors were turned and the pads replaced and said it was probably the bushings causing the noise.

I sprayed every bushing I could see after watching videos on YouTube with silicone lubricant and the noise still persists. A few weeks ago, I took the truck in for an oil change and had the Toyota dealership look into the noise that the truck is making. They reported two issues. They said that there is squeaking coming from the front struts and that the sway bar is rubbing the bump stops.

I do hear squeaking when going over bumps and if I drive with the windows down and the radio low or turned off (that is most likely coming from the struts). How would stopping and turning right be causing the other noise if it is coming from the sway bar? I have the tires turned trying to see where it could be rubbing, but can't see where it is happening.

My wife rolls her eyes and tells me just to turn up the stereo so you don't hear it, but damn, I am driving a '16 and it sounds like I am driving an old clunker. The squeaking from the struts is not as bad as the noise coming from when I am turning the truck or coming to a stop (which was why in the beginning I was sure it was the brakes). I have heard of people removing the front sway bar in some cases. I don't do any off roading and use it more for a daily driver. It is a 4x4 TSS edition with what looks like around a 3" leveling kit with stock struts. What would you recommend?

 

I may just remove my sway bar and see if it eliminates some of the noise that I am getting and see how it drives as far as body roll.

 

Did you check the skid plate? Mine was missing the two front bolts and it squeaked like hell.

 

Just trim the edge of that bump stop and see if it helps.

 

Maybe check the dust plate. It used to happen in my 05 tundra. Maybe have to bend outward a lil. I never really looked under the 16 yet

 

Spring purch on strut. Try some WD40 oil on each end of coil spring. Mine had a leaf spring squeak after it got lifted with a block in the back. Also possible the shackles to leafs. Give them a shot of WD at rubber bushing.

I bought a 2016 TRD Pro about 6 months ago and it started squeaking too. Re torqued those skid plate bolts and it stopped immediately.

 

Try removing the front sway bar. If the squeaking is still there and you have checked torque on everything else, my bet would be a lower ball joint.
Ask me how I know......

 

For what it's worth, my 2018 Sport had a similar issue, only right turns and it would rub/squeak or creak on right turn, incline parking lots (right turn) bumps etc, left turn doesn't do it. The noise is always there, if you made a 360 degree circle and jerk the wheel, the noise is super obvious, again left turn 360 is dead quiet.

So after 2 days the tech at our local Toyota found the issue, it had to do with the brake lines rubbing against the body/frame when making that right turn.

Originally, he did a very thorough job by looking at the entire engine bay, zip tieing everything and inside the cabin as well. I'm glad he found it. Since then , there was is no more noise.

I don't know exactly where the fix is but the service rep told me that the tech insulated it. Worth taking a look.

 

Any reason your tie rod is mounted on the top? It should be coming in from the bottom with the nut on the top?

 

Ditto. Fix the tie rod ends.

 

I recently had a squeaking sound, and thought it was sway bars, come to find out when my mechanic put my suspension on as we was talking he touched the tire under neath the truck, and it moved i drove it to see if noise was still there which it was, then i tightend the tire and no more noise. The sound was a squeeking noise when i stopped, accelerated, hit a bump, and turned left or right.

 

The spare tire? Mine was loose, but the dealership determine it was the struts squeaking. They also noted the sway bar was hitting the bumper stops. I am thinking of removing the sway bar and seeing how I like the handling after reading reviews. The front struts might be replaced down the road.

I have a set of hole punches that range from 1/4” to 2.0”
I used some thin rubber to sandwich between the RCI skids and cross members.
I ended up selling them off to @joonbug. Now I’m wondering if he’ll use them on his new build to end squeaks

 

Because I went through the same thing about 2 years ago on a Tundra. Drove me crazy until I found it was the lower ball joint. Easy to replace though

 

I’m getting a squeak and trying to pinpoint where it’s coming from. Frustrating

 

Doe it squeak when sitting still and turning the wheel? Slow driving over undulations in the road?

 

Holy SHIT! This squeaking is killing me also. I have 2020 Tundra TRD Pro and it seems like it getting worse. I'm about to make an appt at the dealership also because for some reason the rear a/c is not blowing. Not sure if it ever was either because i never sit there. Honestly though the squeaking almost sounds like the shocks are bad because its every minor bump, when i stop, or accelerate. But after reading all the posts on here it sounds like the dealer will tell me to pack sand.

 

It may vary between 2wd and 4wd? Mine is mounted just like his.

 

My spare is what was causing my squeak.

 

Did you tighten the spare, or did the dealer find anything else?

 

My leaf springs get a really loud squeak every once in a while, mostly the drivers side. There's a small gap in between each leafspring and blasting them with water and then a little spray lube shuts them up. Just something to check if you've checked everywhere else. You should be able to get your shoulder into the wheel wheel and rock the truck up and down to check it

The dealer tightened the spare and said that it was sway bar rubbing against the bumper stops and part of it is from the front struts. I sprayed the shit out of the struts with industrial strength silicone lubricant hoping it would fix the issue but it still squeaks like an old truck.
I plan on removing sway bars but have been busy with a lot of other projects.

You just described to a T my exact same issue. Same squeaking you're hearing. Same situations when I slow down or turn right. I cant tell you if it's there when I drive because once windspeed picks up I can't hear it anymore.
I know these are trucks but it gets worrying when it comes out of nowhere.
Did you ever figure it out or can you post a video of the noise?

Mine is driving me nuts as well. Either a UCA or my swaybar. I can rock the truck slightly on the passenger side and it squeaks. I tried to use silicone lubricant, but the area is tight it doesn't penetrate. I read that plumbing tape on the rod and lube is the only real solution.

Just not ready to pay to have that done
