Anybody use this product Fluid Film rust and corrosion preventive. It says "may cause swelling of non oil resistant rubber goods". Wanting to use it on the under carriage of my new Tundra but wanted to know if anybody has had any experience with this product and if there is any areas I should avoid (exhaust system and brakes obviously). Thanks for any input.

I used it before winter. Haven't been able to get up under the truck much since then, but I just avoid all the bushings and non metal components I can. Snagged a 5 or 6 pack of cans on Amazon that came with a 360 degree nozzle, and it works great for getting the inside of the frame and other bits. Basically, stick the nozzle and hose up in any holes (innuendo aside) and it gets the job done.

Fluid film will collect dirt/dust and look kinda scummy, but it can be hosed off with a bit of pressure and then reapplied. If you use the search bar (I got your back @COMiamiFan ) you'll get a few different threads with good info on it and other products.

I used 8 or 9 cans . I didn't have a 360 degree sprayer . Just the red straws that come with the can .. be sure to drop your spare tire and get all the nooks and crannies .

South main auto has a good YouTube video on spraying his 2013 tundra .

I've used fluid film in past years but it stinks pretty bad and washes off easily with extended road spray and for sure with a pressure washer. This past winter I tried woolwax with a spray gun. Much tackier, working on my truck now its still completely covered and sticky everywhere. It also doesn't smell so offensive.

My 14 frame was free of rust but had some red dirt on it. The Fluid Film bubbled that off. I was quite surprised. Frame looks new. Use it. Spray back in your face does suck though. Mostly wax/lanolin. Works great. Found about it here actually. Used 3 cans. $25. Worth it...

I used fluid film on my 2010 worked OK but pretty much washed off by mid/end winter. I'm thinking of spraying black woolwax on my new 2020 since it's thicker and doesn't smell. That Fluid Film sticks with you for a few days and isn't the most pleasant. Did you use the black or clear woolwax? Did you use the "pro sprayer"? I'm thinking a gallon of black with the pro-sprayer & wands & 2 Bottles to have my son alternate and fill. I usually put a tarp down for the Fluid Film, probably a good idea for the Woolwax? You don't have to clean the gun with FF, can you just leave in the gun for WW? Thanks!

I used the Fluid Film 6 months ago. Frame still looks good. Not much salt used here. Rarely. I guess it depends on where you reside. Frame smell??? Seriously? I don't sniff my frame too often. Other 1st world things going on now to keep me occupied.....

We used to coat our helicopters in that shit then wipe it down. Hated it cuz then we’d be covered in it from crawling all over that greasy pig. It’s much easier to buy a gallon sized jug and use a garden sprayer than to use a bunch of aerosol cans.

:threadjacked: Helicopters are the coolest effing machines man has ever built. Very much wish I could have afforded to get my licenses and fly for a living.

I got a kit with the pro sprayer and two extensions. You do also need a decent compressor to shoot it, something like 4.5 scfm at 90psi I think, their website or the kellsport website has specs but man did the spray pattern suck when the tank pressure got low I had to stop and let it rebuild every so often. I used clear because I didn't want to blacken my aftermarket suspension, call me vein. On a new stock truck I would suggest black for easy to see coverage. I used about a quart and did the whole truck. I split a second quart between the wifes car and a truck that just had the frame Toyota coated so it needed much less. I don't know how people are using 1-2 gallons! The frame must be full! I didn't apply lightly either. The only other tip is that none of those wands will fit into the door drains, I'm not sure I want to fill my doors with goop and plug those anyway. So I sprayed what fluid film I had into doors with their small 360 wand on aerosol cans and remembered how much it stinks!

For woolwax application I wore a respirator and covered my skin for the most part, long sleeves, hat, gloves but they say its non toxic. Then sprayed outside on a nice winter day +55F on the driveway with cardboard down under me to roll on. The concrete driveway faired well, can't tell of any overplay. It would be better on a lift and best to pull the wheels off, rubber splash guards, all frame plugs, some of the body plugs that go into cavities, not the ones that go into your cab/carpet!

Checkout the Tacomaworld.com forums. Tons of the Tacoma guys use FF because of the ongoing never ending frame rust issues. Tons of opinions and long term reviews on it.

I've heard people prefer wool wax but I think people might be mistaken that Fluid Film washes off quickly. I think it might appear that way but it's still working. Maybe my experience is different because we get very little salt.

I applied fluid film in November and it's still working after 6.5 months and 35 inches of rain.

Here is my frame when I spray it with the hose. It beads up like the body if it had just been waxed.

Oregon fortunately doesn’t use a lot of foul stuff on the roads but I plan to clean and apply either FF or a similar product.

Just slinging in some old vintage VW wisdom- many 50’s and 60’s VW’s (extremely rust prone cars) that still get driven get FF/similar, and the owners swear by it.

I haven’t seen evidence that one product necessarily better than the other, as long as its fairly easy to apply and remove, doesn’t smell like death, and the preference is always for something that goes on essentially clear.

From what I have read, it’ll go on a little messy and collect some road dirt. The road dirt will fall away, but there is still product over the metal that prevents corrosion. It needs to be applied each year.
