Okay so i have my sr5 steel wheels on my 19’ tundra, I actually like the color of them since they match my silver sky CM.

every since i bought my truck i have been researching wheels. My main question is for those of you who went with aftermarket wheels that were seriously lighter than the 39lb steel wheels, did you feel a performance gain?

i am thinking of buying current pro wheels weighing in avg 27lbs, titan wheels 20lbs, or icons methods 30lbs. When i do i will be running regular SL tires maybe C rated due to limited tire selection if i went with 17”s.

so ultimately if i went with forged titans that should be roughly 20 lbs lighter per side, would i feel a performance or mpg gain?

Little different but similar situation, i just went back from 53lb bfg tires to 41lb Michelins. Both same stock size. I did this 3 days ago and im still not sure how much i can feel. Perhaps it is slightly quicker? Don’t buy the bbs wheels for the weight savings, 1500 is a lot of money, love their look if you buy them.

shop for local alloys. They are maybe 31-32 lbs. but only $200-300. Better lb/$ savings

I am of the opinion that on such a large and heavy vehicle you are unlikely to perceive a clear and definitive difference in either performance or MPG.

Reducing unsprung weight is always a good idea, the results of running a lighter wheel & tire are improved acceleration, braking and steering response. I can feel the difference a lighter wheel and tire package made to my truck.

Will a lighter wheel have negative driving affects?

Actually in ANY vehicle you will feel the difference in unsprung weight.
Unsprung weight has a bigger impact than sprung weight.

So yes you will most certainly feel a noticeable difference in 20lbs per corner.

There will not be any negative affects to a lighter wheel either.

no negatives. Has a race team ever wanted something to be heavier?

Gram lights 57transcends weigh in at 20-23 lbs per wheel. Not cheap, but it’s another option. Some sites say 20 and some say 23.

I have a hard time believing that acceleration or deceleration would be effected by any noticeable degree. Yes, there is less rotational inertia, but for linear acceleration and braking what matters is total weight and braking power. So saving 40 pounds out of the total weight of the truck is negligible. I know people have looked at this in detail on two wheels, my racing background there had me interested years ago.
But I agree on the unsprung weight issue, possibly noticeable.

I certainly wouldn't want to add heavier wheels and tires to any vehicle that I own.

There's also handling and ride quality improvements, I remember reading that 1lb of unsprung weight is the equivalent of like 5lbs of sprung weight when it comes to handling and the suspension being able to react.

Ultimately, whether you'll feel a difference is questionable unless you're very tuned into how your truck feels. Probably more of a placebo effect like cold air intakes and exhaust are for most people.

You feel the difference the day you make the change, and then that feeling becomes the new norm.

Your truck won't be faster, but it will get up to speed quicker.

I think that's a good looking wheel. I just have a bit of a tough time dealing with that the spokes and the lugs lack symmetry because there are five of one and six of the other and my mind wants them to align. This seems to happen a great deal with the 5-lug Tundra wheels, both factory and aftermarket. Not always, but often.

What's the weight on stock alloys? I wouldn't really care cuz they're damn good looking rims but just asking

Total weight for this BBS wheel and 275/65R18 LTX A/T2 combo is 68 pounds, this includes lug nuts, sensor and center cap. Installing standard size 255/70R18 LTX M/S2 on these wheels would shave another 2 pounds off the total.

I just swapped out to the BBS TRD Pro wheels, and can feel a smoother ride over the 20's my platinum came with. I point this to the Michelin's and taller sidewall, more than unsprung weight difference. :angrygirl: I also despise a Bridgestone tire. I have never had one worth a crap on any vehicle.

    I wish 18 X 9 wheels,
But forged wheels around $540-570 each brand new is cheapest.

I picked mine up as takeoffs with 13/32 on each tire and maybe had 50 miles on them for $1600 this past Thursday. Need to be patient.

That's what I paid for brand new take-offs about a month ago, I had to drive an hour to meet the seller and it was worth it.

Dealer installed TRD dual exhaust system and tonneau cover. Personally installed TRD Pro grille and surround, side mirror caps, and TRD shifter.
Keep checking Craigslist and Facebook. I picked up a full set of 2020 TRD Pro BBS wheels for $650 a couple months ago. They were take offs at 3000 miles.

Bbs wheels are sick. My eye is open for some too

i just noticed after 250 miles with my Lighter tires. The computer has adjusted. It now shifts way better and more optimally during accelerating with light tires
