So I did a little thing today and put a deposit down on a TRD supercharger.

I need a little help though, I need to make sure I'm getting everything I need to swap it over to my truck.

    It's coming off a 2001 Tundra 4.7 4x4 to my 2001 Tundra 4.7 4x4 so it should be compatible.

The unit was installed by the dealer new and I have access to the whole truck that it's being removed from.

I've been reading the past few days and getting kinda confused over the 9th and 10th injector issue.

Was the 10th injector only on the newer versions?

Where is it located and is that just for the 04-06 vvti units?

I know this unit has the 9th injector on the back of the housing.

Also, what is the part number for the belt?

The one I found is not being produced anymore by Toyota...

Could someone confirm what exactly I need to get to me for the install?

    So far the list is:
    Supercharger
    Stock Injectors (330cc?)
    2 idler pulleys
    Throttle body
    water coolant adapter
2 TRD computers and harness to stock ECU

I think I also need to ask for the front half of the intake also, the belt to get a stock number off of it.

    Anything else I'm missing?

And YES, i'm planning on rebuilding the charger before I install.
If you guys know of a rebuild kit or anyone that you recommend in OC, SoCal to do it the rebuild that would be great too!

Lastly, I'm also looking for a Unichip or something like it that works with this set up too!

Let me know if you have one FS.

I have JBA headers, K&N intake, and exhaust i want to tune this to.

Thanks for all your help guys!

    Dear EvilRB,

Congratulations. Would love to have the factory supercharger on mine. Have no need for the factory supercharger on mine. Still want it. If I came across one like you have, I would certainly rebuild / refresh prior to installation. Bearings, seals, belts, injectors etc. I would also refinish the housing so it would look badass. There is likely some threads on here with SC owners who can add valuable insight to your upcoming adventure. Best of luck and keep us updated as several of us will be living your journey vicariously through you.

It would be neat to know how many of these were actually made. It seems like they are really tough to track down at this point.

Hes a moderator there now and he knows more about the superchargers than anybody. He was rebuilding them and doing some crazy cryogenic reinforcing stuff. I don't think you need all that but he has lots of rare parts and will help you. Tell him Tundrunk sent you.

James helped get me up and running with my supercharger too. Good guy.

Looks like you have a 9th injector. 9th/10th is larger with the damper on the top.

Also see if the rotors spin freely. I previously bought a supercharger where one of the rotors had a huge chunk missing. Looked like the PO inhaled a rock or something.

Yeah he's been in the Tundra game since day one. He used to message me to buy a charger when he had 4 rebuilt ones on hand but I never had the cash to spare. Too many projects on my list as is.

He had been getting some of the rare parts fabricated recently, and he has quite a collection of parts still.

So a heads up. When installing and you bump into this coolant pipe at the back, make sure it’s not loose. Or it will come out in a few thousand miles and overheat your drivers side head.

    2C394EC4-B801-42B2-B61D-4F7BD9E98DBA.jpg

Yea he’s got some pretty cool stuff going on now. I’m probably the only lunatic that contacted him about putting a supercharger on my 3uzfe Lexus.

Unfortunately no. I was slowly getting stuff done but then my clumsiness with the coolant pipe struck and the drivers side head gasket said bye bye. Now the car is sitting in my garage in pieces. Debating if I want to keep the car, rebuild, engine swap, or sell it to fund the Tundra. It was very difficult being the “first” to do something because I had to figure most things out (the hard way) on my own. For the first few thousand miles I was running my Lexus throttle body, which completely blew my mind, was just ever so slightly different than the Tundra one.

I don’t. The car never really gathered much interest. The most views my YouTube video got was like 1.9k over 3 years. And the Lexus forum and its members is just...terrible.

    Ok another question guys....

I come from a JDM background with 2jz's and RB's so I'm very comfortable with turbos and JDM units.

But, This will be the first supercharger unit I've played with...

With the supercharger I was wondering instead of spending $1000 for a Unichip or something wouldn't an Apexi Super AFC work if it's just tuning the Air Fuel ratio?

I don't want to do anything too dramatic but I already have JBA shorty headers, KN intake, 12 hole injectors, and plan on doing exhaust with the install.

As in my build thread, I just changed basically everything in my engine short of head gaskets... (link in signature)

I still have a few go-fast parts from my other projects so I have available, AEM fuel pump, Tomie fuel pressure regulator, and a few other things that I think could work but I'm not looking to use them if I don't need too.
I'm looking for just a good, smooth running truck nothing too crazy just optimized for longevity.
I wasn't planning on this supercharger but couldn't pass up on this deal...

    So any advice is appreciated.

It's a $200 unit and Blitz and other companies have similar cheaper units.

Also if anyone knows of a place in SoCal to rebuild and check out my Supercharger unit, LMK!

    Thanks

I originally wanted to try the AFC NEO but on the Lexus forum people kept saying the ECU will just “relearn” over it. Never really saw if it ever happened but that’s what people claimed.

There’s not a whole lot of options in the plug n play department. If that TRD tune of yours still works I’d say just stick with that.

My TRD ECU works but i don't think it's tuned to include intake, headers, and exhaust, it's coming off a stock truck.
I'm trying to read as much as I could find but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
It's a variable adjusting unit so it should override the signal and make the adjustments before sent to the ECU...
But I've been out of the game for a while so I might be wrong here. Seems like I wasn't the only one with the idea but this post is from 2004 so...

I believe James on the other Tundra forum runs the TRD tune and has a buddy that also does with I/h/e.

I suggested the TRD tune just to avoid the hassle of having to wire in a standalone/piggyback. Unichip, MAP ECU 3, whatever else, good luck finding a tuner for those. AFC NEO could be a easy test, just 4 wires if I remember right. Maybe use it with the TRD since the NEO doesn’t adjust timing.

Edit - You’ll also want to do the transmission valve body upgrade

Jeepers, I hope it wasn't Club Lexus. Ive been involved in the 3rd Gen LS430 forum for years (2KHarrier and I'm a mod over there) and I've always been intrigued by the LS builds. We do have some real Tools over there, however...

Great another upgrade to look at...:bananadance::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Thanks, I've been reading the last few days on the differences in the units out there and the URD and APexi units basically do the same thing but the Apexi SAFC can be done on the controller while the URD needs a laptop to upload a new map.
It seems that the JDM unit can handle it without any problems.
APexi USA is down the street from me and I used to work with them but that was years ago so I'm trying to get in touch with a buddy that still works there.
I put in a bid on a URD unit and an APexi unit, I'll post what I find out when I do my install on my build thread.

I am doing the URD thermostat only because the TRD unit is discontinued and can't seem to find one FS.
looking at radiators too since these don't have intercoolers and I sit in traffic a lot here in LA.
Electrical push fan too for the front of the radiator.
I've learned along ago that mechanical fans may not be the most efficient but they basically are fail-proof when sitting in traffic.

Should be fun testing everything. :fingerscrossed:

Bonus pic of the APexi SC300 with the TRD/ APexi built 1uz I got to work on for FD years ago...

    It was running Haltech ECU though... long-beach-drifting.jpg 417758_4418168739337_2014377184_n.jpg 558471_10151233617796393_2030665530_n.jpg 579691_3506469134586_1774241915_n-620x462.jpg IMAG0590.jpg

It is. Years ago there were a bunch of anti-performance snobs that would give snarky responses every single time. The “Lexus engineers” this the “Lexus engineers” that. Got annoying seeing all those LS elitists. I’m not defiling the car. I’m not anti-VIP either. But my build is pretty much the anti-VIP build. I’ve had a few guys contact me on IG that have pretty much gone IG only after clublexus.

    “car will never be fast”
“Car isn’t meant to be driven fast”
“Performance suspension is a sin on the LS”

    6C50876D-0888-4A4E-8968-5C10B778D8CA.jpg

Those are some cool cars. I went to an FD event many years ago. Got sunburned. Me and all our friends biggest memory was not being able to find water. Everyone was giving away free energy drinks, but no water.

The valve body is mainly for longevity. The transmission could slip with all that newfound power. Or even not shift at all.

My car had an available “tow package” radiator which I put on. Not sure if the 1 gen Tundras have aluminum radiators but I don’t see why not. Perhaps CSF or whoever else might have one.

You could also do water injection to keep the rotors cooler.

Well, sorry to hear that Kelvin. It is changing a little, as the LS becomes a more affordable car and those elitists move into other cars, there have been more builds posted.

Yeah, I was on Club Lexus for years and they really like to shit on everything there, I lurked for most of the time just because everyone seemed to think that it was stupid to ask questions or giving snarky responses just for the sake of trolling.

It really was a let down of a site, I was more on VIPstylecars when they were around.

    So Update:

I won a great bid on a URD MAF calibrator and thermostat:
    https://www.urdusa.com/urd-maf-sensor-calibrator/

So can some g over my list of what I need and let me know if I'm missing anything?

I'm also getting the water neck and fuel rails.

Am I missing anything else to install this kit?
I'm using all new OEM gaskets and looking for someone to check out and rebuild the charger if needed.

I definitely want to change the bearings and refresh it at least.

IT finally arrived a few days ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even has TRD long tube headers that are being shipped separately...
    should be here next week.

    Sorting things out now...

Thinking about using my TRD Block too with this...

It would give me almost a full catalog truck!
I would have the TRD stamped dry sump, crank and block with my LSD and now the headers and supercharger... not to forget the oil cap.

I'm debating on the block though, it will need a full rebuild but it's only missing cams, rods, and pistons.
I would upgrade everything but this truck was supposed to be my daily and tow truck.
I feel like it's going to be a waste other than the "kool factor"

I'm looking for another MK4 Supra to build in the future.

I just rebuilt my engine with everything except head gaskets but it has 330k miles on it so I'm up in the air...
I was looking forward to make it to the 1 million mile club in a few decades.

I literally just got lucky with these parts and getting them when I see them for sale and now I have almost a full project on my hands.

    What do you guys think?

What is the engine worth, could I get an MK4 Supra rolling shell for it??? :fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:o_O

Anyone with a shop that wants to help me tackle the project or help with the refresh of the supercharger and install?

    I'm in OC, SoCal 92683

Oh well, I'll do another thread on it but the Super Charger is definitely a go for this project!!!

Time to start a Stage 2 build thread!

    Nice score @evilrb

I’d say if you have the money do what you want and build 1000hp engine on the Tundra. Keep going man!

If anyone's interested there's a RWD AC on Colorado Craigslist right now with a factory TRD SC on it. 8k takes it. Not mine.
