I'm sad to report that after 3 years of flawless performance, the BigRedFireEngine has been traded in. My wife and I made the decision to downsize our vehicle and payment, picking up a 2020 Camry SE this past weekend. (pic below) So far there are no regrets as the Camry is an outstanding vehicle, and we can handle our limited towing duties with our minivan.

Now while we all know these trucks have great trade-in values, I had to share this with you because I'm just amazed. I purchased my used 2016 CM 1794 Edition with 50K kilometres in 2017 for $40k + tax CDN. That was a steal on its own as the dealership had a tough time moving the red coloured truck. I just traded it in for $36,500 + tax value CDN toward the Camry.

So not only did I own a bad@ss truck for three years for just $3500 CDN... I also saved all $3700 in taxes on the Camry!!! Add in a great discount on the sedan, and it was a no-brainer.

I just wanted to share these numbers with everyone in case you're thinking of upgrading to a newer truck or downsizing like us. Don't let the dealer walk away with your trade-in value!

Stay tuned for a FOR SALE thread. I have a lot of goodies that I will be posting up including a Kenwood DDX9905s with Maestro, AFI filter, MotivX tools and more.

Most of all, thank you to each and every one of you for all the great information on this forum. This really is a great community of truck owners.

    All the best,
    Thomas

I'm glad to see you've come to your senses on the second go round and picked the best color!

Congrats! I really like the new Camry, they really sported it up!

Thanks! I have to admit I had some concerns about the Camry after reading about reports of a sluggish transmission in some '18s and '19s. But it appears Toyota has worked out all the bugs. It is without a doubt the smoothest driving sedan I have ever owned. And yes, the gas mileage is UNREAL!!

4 banger... and I can report that it's enough power to make me happy. What's more surprising is how smooth and quiet the engine is. I test drove both, and I have to say I like the sound of the 4 much more when you stomp it. Also appreciate how fast the tranny responds when you flip it into manual mode and slap the paddles. Lots of fun for a family sedan.

Congrats. I love the new Camry. It would be at the top of my list if I had to downsize. Good choice!

Nice! I had a camry in the past- great car. There's a reason it's one of the best selling cars in America. If I had to downsize, I wouldn't hesitate to get another Camry

Nice. I love driving Camrys when I get them as rental cars... if I ever downsized I’d go that route.

    BigRedFireEngine,

Great story, and congrats on the Camry! I had a 4cyl CE(?), about 20 years ago. It was a great car. I decided to upgrade to a 4Runner, when my lease expired.

We call our BigRedFireEngine, Big Red, as well. The previous owner had labelled the Bluetooth connection that, and we like it. I too, always joke that it looks like a fire truck, with all that chrome.

Anyways, I live in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada . I spotted my 2017 Barcelona Red 1794, on an Autotrader "great deal" email alert. I took a peek, and called the dealer in St Catharines, ON. I told the random salesperson that I'll buy it. My wife said to ask about the free delivery, so I did. It's almost a 6hr drive, one way, and it took an extra week to tee things up, but the salesman drove it right to my driveway. He also brought me a 6 pack of Stella Artois cans, for the slight inconvenience.

It had been listed close to $48K(CDN), and the price was dropped to $43,500. I asked the salesman why it sat in their lot for so long (almost 6 months), and he said it was priced too high, initially. I bet it's because the truck was too flashy. I'm so pleased with the purchase. I love the; caramel leather, JBL stereo, ample rear compartment storage with the seats flipped up, tri-fold tonneau, pretty much everything, too bad about the hard plastic dash, and fake wood, but hey! If Lexus made a truck this is it, with wood and better plastic of course.

Great to know about the resale value, and your post reafffirmed how I feel about my deal! I guess you won't be around here much, since you're in the Camry forum now. Enjoy your gas mileage .

4Runners aren't the greatest on gas either. Also not much cheaper than the Tundra.

Maybe his needs have changed. I really liked my 4Runners, but my requirements also changed, in the opposite direction.

Ain’t that the truth. My 2019 Tundra was less than my 2017 4Runner!

I'd rather daily a 4Runner in winter than a Tundra but the Tundra is better for runs to Home Hardware and the dump and the 4R won't tow a travel trailer.

Ken, sorry for the VERY late reply. As you suggested, I have not been around here much.

Congratulations on the new Tundra. I hope it's treating you well. They really are spectacular trucks. And yes, that was a smokin' deal you got on a 2017!!

    Wishing you safe motoring, friend!
