Ok need some help my 08 tundra has a long crank issue. Seems like after it sits for a while it cranks for about 10 seconds then fires up with a small puff of white smoke. It’s kind of intermittent though because sometimes it will fire right up after sitting for a day. Also when i shut it off it will fire right back up right away. No codes on the dash. Fuel pressure is at 44 when running then drops to 30 after 5 minutes of shutting it off then 20psi after a half hour then 10 after an hour. Toyota spec says just need to hold above 21 for 5 minutes. Took it to Toyota dealership they said soft code for ignition transponder But they’re not sure if that’s the issue. Once it fires up it runs perfect and it always starts every time just sometimes cranks longer before firing. Any help is greatly appreciated

Waht happens if you turn the key to "run" for 10 seconds, then start it?

That's incredible! A dealership passed an opportunity to throw parts at a vague, undefined problem? What's the world coming to? Unbelievable.

I believe the dealership was talking about a "soft code" on the transponder amplifier that reads the key chip in the ignition switch. If you want to gamble a little money, it's a fairly easy install as I recall. You can usually find a cheaper used one on fleabay with no warranty.

Do a search for threads that add a lighted ignition switch. I don't think the steering wheel will need to be pulled, but the upper and lower steering column housings would need to be removed with 2-4 screws. I believe the part you'll need is the listing below @Roman. If you didn't have a lighted key switch before, this part should also give you that.

does the same thing. The fuel pump doesn’t actually run until the crank cycle is started for these trucks

toyota told me the transponder code is referring to the ignition control module which is on the fire wall behind the dash so the whole dash has to be removed. $1700 in labor and a $400 part

I'd consider the fuel pump's anti-drain back valve is malfuctioning allowing fuel to drain back as opposed to maintaining pressure so warm restarts are harder.....

ya that’s what I’m hoping. I’m gonna try an in line check valve to see it that solves the issue so I don’t have to drop the tank. Cuz I think the pump is working fine. I’m getting good fuel pressure it’s just draining off like 1psi per minute

I may try that part first though after I single out the fuel system. Cuz I notice when I put my key in the ignition the security light doesn’t stop flashing on the dash and the door dinger doesn’t turn on unless I hold the key to one side or the other in the ignition almost like it’s not getting a good connection

Is this a flex fuel truck? Mine had that problem with an aftermarket fuel pump, went back to OEM Toyota and it mostly went away. There is a recall that had to be done but I need to get it reflashed I think now that I have an OEM fuel pump installed. Mine does it for just a few seconds and only on the first start of the day. With aftermarket pump it did it always and for a loonnnng time at startup.

Gotcha. Can't help you then. I've learned alot about the Flex Fuel system since I started having trouble. Turns out it's a lot different than non FFV. I wish I had a regular truck!

    Good luck.
