So I’ve been on my back for the last hour trying to figure out a way to make the skid plate fit and it’s not even close. I can get all of the hole lined up, I can even get the bolts started. But every time I start tightening down the skid plate hits this (see attached) before it’s even close to tight. What am I doing wrong?

I have a 2016 TRD Offroad. I do have Bilstein 6112 up front and 5100 and add a leaf on the back but I can’t imagine that would affect it.

    Any ideas????

Do you have the other spacers that go with your diff drop kit?

It's because you have a lift installed. They don't play well together.

Remove the diff drop or go with the ^ above advice from @ColoradoTJ and find the rest of your kit.

I had the local off-road shop do the lift and that’s all the parts I have... other than what I got with the skid plate.

The diff drop comes with skid plate spacers. You really don't need the diff drop kit on a 6112 lift.

I think the guy that did my 6112’s only moved it up like an 1.5” not much at all. Can I just back that bolt out I’m pointing to and then remove the spacer and put the bolt back in? It’s it going to do something crazy when I drop that bolt?

Put a jack under it. But I’d almost leave the diff drop kit and order the skid plate spacers.

Put a jack under your differential first then loosen it. Just for safety though it shouldn't fall much, if any.

Remove the diff drop spacer. It is not needed no matter what height your 6112s are at. Then your skid will fit without additional spacers.

From what I read on here, diff drop spacers can do more harm than good anyways.

The other shitty part is that I had the Skidplate shipped to me... and the stuff in the “hardware bag” is missing as well. Frustrating for sure.

Ive read the same thing. I have a 2.5” 6112 lift and did not put on the diff drop hardware. Some folks say put them on to ease the CV axle angles and extend the CV axle lifespansome say don’t. What are the pros and cons?

I dont think that it helps with the CV axle angle but more to do with keeping the front driveshaft U joint angles equal on the front and back.

PROs do not have a diff drop kit which made me feel comfortable in not installing a diff drop when I installed my leveling shocks.

I read that since it only adds the spacer to one side, it causes your differential to tilt, which then displaces more oil to one side and away from your input shaft bearing(?) which will then cause premature wear.

As the differential ring gear turns oil climbs up the ring gear and onto the pinion gear then makes it's way to the pinion bearings. A tilt to the diff would not effect pinion bearing lubrication.

Yeah what he said. This is a rear, but same concept. It starts around 3:10.

Diff drop kits always use two spacers.

Mine certainly has two spacers. I’m gonna remove the spacers this morning and try to put the skid plate on... Again...

Good luck! It might fit now with the spacers off.

Don’t know if you got the issue sorted, but I bought this with my Pro skid to install with my diff drop kit. Worked great.

You have a lift installed. Your whole skid plate will need to be dropped the same amount that you added to the diff drop. I dropped mine and had to get longer bolts and made custom aluminum spacers to put between the skid plate and its bolt mounting points. That will cure your crash condition.

Holy shit... So here I was thinking I could just swing those bolts loose take the spacers out and put the bolts back in... WRONG.

I dropped the diff this afternoon and after fucking it for a while I realized the bolt holding the diff up were much long than I could go without the spacer. So after considerable amount of cursing and blood trying to get the nut on top to stay while mounting the bolts back up I had to put the diff back up. OMG what a pain in my ass trying to get that nut to get threads so I could put the diff back up in the right spot, there is like 0.0 room especially on the driver side. Sigh... looks like I need to find the original bolts some where some how.

Did you not get the bolt back when the lift was installed? When we do the lift at the dealership you get back the lift box with all the stock hardware in case you want to return it to stock.

This, my diff drop kit came with skid plate spacers that accommodated the lowered differential.

To be honest they may have given it to me at some point but I can't find it anywhere.
