Hey guys, looking for some input. Looking at purchasing a 2017 Crewmax 4x4, with SR5 upgrade package. What's the general consensus for OTD price? Under $40k i'd think is a solid deal, but wanted to ask the experts.

It's really tough to compare sales price OTD between states because of sales tax rate differences. In IL, it is 7.25% where is live, which to get an OTD price of $40k means you need to pay with TTL & any other additions $37,296.

yep, best to look at discount off MSRP. My dealer offered me a TSS that stickered for $43k for $6k off or $37k. Purchase price for the truck without TTL is what is important screw this OTD the stuff for comparison purposes. In addition to different tax rates registration and dealer fees can be different too. Also, have crap like nitrogen that some dealers add. When I bought my Tacoma I asked what is this nitrogen crap on the invoice. Sales dude said "we put that in all our vehicles". I said not mine.

Seems like 40K is reasonable deal. I bought a 4x2, 5.7L, SR5 upgrade package crewmax in AL for 36,100K OTD (with a 3.5% TTL and dealer fees included). the 4x4 version may be another 2-3k more.

For some reason the "What did you pay?" threads seem to be much more popular on the Tacoma forum. Of course there are more Tacoma owners. Not sure if that is it or they are just more concerned with price.

I bought mine about a month ago. It's a crewmax sr5 TRD w/sr5 upgrade package, and it was $39,536 and they gave me a topper they had sitting on a used truck as well.

Yeah, $1500 cash back on an over priced TSS. Unfortunately no incentives on what I want.

I'm getting ready to buy pretty soon (I think) and was figuring on 10% off MSRP, can I expect that or is it wishful thinking? I haven't started any negotiations but felt that should be my target.

I got about 12% off the msrp out the door in SC. Just email all the dealers in your area what their best price is. Always depends on time of year or month. I think it's easier to get a larger percentage on the upper level trucks... limited and platinum (not pro though).

    Nice username by the way

USAA car buying service will tell the Toyota dealer what they will pay for the truck as equipped. Never had an issue with this service and it removes any haggling nightmares. They must be an authorized USAA selected dealer. Pretty easy way to purchase process and I have never been disappointed using USAA. They do all the leg work for me as a member. FWIW...

I think 10% is definitely what you should expect before any dealer fees. Some dealers won't move from their fees as it is a law in that state. Like @Stig said the higher the MSRP the more of a discount you can expect. So you might be able to get 12% off a Limited or Platinum but maybe only 10% off an SR5.

My advice is to find a truck on Koons dealership site and then email them for their WOW price. After you get that number email all your local dealers or the dealers within the distance your willing to drive with that number and ask if they can beat it.

I live in NY and actually used Koons price to shop up here. I did the math to figure out what the discount percentage is and then looked on local dealer sites for the truck I would buy from them and asked them if they would discount it by that percentage. It was a little more involved and a lot of math work but I got a really good deal for my area and drove 3 hours to get it.

I'm back and forth between a pretty basic Limited (Entune, JBL, TRD) or a SR5.

    The stereo sucks in both.
Leather you can add after. I went SR5 because I knew I would change the stereo, seats, wheels, grill, etc

Dealer offered me a TSS DC SR5 4x4 for 14% off MSRP. TSS's have steps and other high priced stuff so dealers have more room on them. Plus they often have incentives. They are trying to get me to buy sooner than I want to. Internet sales manager says they got some hot deals coming up. I gave him my specs and lets see if the deals are real or smoke.

So could a 1794 be had around 15% off MSRP or is that pushing the envelope? I'd like a Limited with Entune and TRD or a SR5 TRD but boy if a 1794 could be had close to $45k I'd consider it but that's my limit.

Oh and thanks, the 188 is why I want a Tundra :)

Tell ya what...my uncle runs a Toyota dealership in Macon, Georgia, and has always styled my friends out. Pick what you want (if buying new) and PM me your idea of what you would pay and I can get him on the look out. Depending on where you are in SC I also have a friend that sold me my first Tundra in Bluffton...near Hilton Head if you're not familiar. PM me if your interested.

I'm not sure what the draw on Tundra is up there but I bought in a farming community in southern Colorado and I bought a double cab TRD that was on "special" and was able to knock almost $10,000 off MSRP due to the rebates, my credit, and the fact that I was trading in a 2016 Tacoma. If your aren't looking for that specific truck and are able to be flexible then you have much more bargaining power. You also want to throw the other makes you've been looking at out there and don't seem too "ready to buy." They hate hearing you're really interested in the Ford EcoBoost. Traditionally you'll get a better deal on double cabs rather than crewmax just because everyone is buying them. After everything was said and done I bought exactly what I went in for and paid around $32,000 AND here's the kicker....I got $1000 more for my Tacoma than I paid for it 11 months ago.

Moral to the story...go in asking for the top dog truck and work back to the ones they are trying to dump off because it's been sitting too long. You'll always get a better deal with the new ones that have been on the lot for a few months, even if it's not the exact truck you've been dreaming of.

I write all of this assuming you are like me and have a budget you need to stay under. If not, and you're loaded, then FUCK IT! Buy the baddest PRO you can find and build that thING up to the best truck we've seen!!

I ended up buying a TRD but probably would have started with an SR5 if I knew I was going to spend as much on the build as I'm going to. Hope this helps at least a bit

This. I got mine for about 5k under MSRP which was under invoice, so they only made their draw on it since it was on the lot for +100 days.
