So I got my tundra last year. Searched every make of truck for almost two years. Still pumped everytime I drive it and don’t regret it one bit. I am in love with Toyota and think I will always drive them. I am looking at getting my wife a sequoia. She currently drives a 4-door wrangler and loves it. But it is almost 9 years old and pushing 100k. It’s been paid off for years and the trade value on it is unreal. Family needs have changed and it will no longer be practical. I am seriously looking at getting her a sequoia. So, sequoia owners, pros and cons? (obviously gas mileage but don’t care much about that) Like it, love it, hate it?

26 gallon tank and fuel mileage, cons if you do long drives. Otherwise were on our second one. First-generation can be rust buckets. 2nd row captain chairs are great with the kids and dog. Compatibility with a lot of tundra parts is nice too.

We absolutely love ours and with a few mods all second gens can look like a 2020 Trd pro. As stated above, the gas tank is on the smaller side and gas mileage isn’t ideal either but it’s so reliable and comfy. Here is my 08 platinum which basically has all the bells and whistles of the new models. A7D9C34E-5A90-49BA-A70E-D71D13C38D18.jpg

Beau, that 08 looks great! These tundras and sequoias hold their value so well its hard for me to justify used cause they cost so dang much.

My wife went from a 3rd gen Runner to a Tc and was headed back to the T4R route but talked her into the sequoia and shes LOVED it for 3 years now.

My mom ordered hers right when they were first released and they have taken all over the country and still love it almost 20 years later.

3rd row seats and ability to pull them out and fit queen air mattress is pretty sweet for sure. No regrets!

If I were buying new, I’d wait for the new model to come out early next year since it’s supposed to be a redesign. They haven’t had a major overhaul since mine was released in 2008.

I was thinking the same about the redesign. Didn’t know if they’d roll out tundra and sequoia redesigns in the same year.

I found a dealer close that has two of the exact same 2020 trd sports, one of which was a manager demo. They are priced the same but the demo has ~4k miles on it. We’ll see if they want to move the demo or not.

I thought Sequoia redesign wouldn't be out till 22 or 23 model year. Not 100% sure but it will ne 1 or 2 yrs behind the Tundra

We have a Sequoia also, no complaints. It's comfortable, lots of space and has 3rd row to haul 7-8 people

You Have a sequoia and tundra: plat tundra n TRD Pro sequoia

    Cons:
-Interior outdated/simple -> alright the platinum sequoia has a significantly improved interior then the TRD PRO, still went TRD PRO due to not caring but some do.
    - gas mileage, have a tundra, I already know but no 38 gal option like the tundra
    - limited aftermarket support compared to 4R/tundra
-Ext styling outdated( the trd models greatly improve this aspect)

    Pros:
-TRD PRO suspension is legit (if you go that route)
    - turning radius surprises me every time compared to the Tundra
    - TRD PRO Seq still comes with power liftgate, power rear fold seats n power folding mirrors really only leaving out vent seats/air suspension/2nd row options which makes it vastly upgraded from tundra pro options.
-cost, oddly enough unlike the tundra, pro sequoia’s are generally less the platinum sequoias hence makes sense to roll pro n upgrade interior as you want vs going platinum and making it a pro Esque like we do in tundra land

Overall we love the sequoia, my wife refuses to drive the truck now which is a plat. We upgraded from a 4R for the room and got that plus some. Wouldn’t look back. I still got the truck though so best of both worlds!

Just to throw it out there...my wife has an Armada and the resale/trade in is a joke. 2015 last year before the new body came out and only 39k miles. KBB shows about $17,500 trade in and $21K for private party. I sure wish we went with the Sequoia instead.

Wow, no doubt. I paid 16k for my 2008 sequoia about 2 years ago and it was a steal compared to the others we were looking at.

This is exactly what we bought my wife in January. Black TRD Sport. I love it, my wife loves it (but wishes it had lighted vanity mirrors and power lift gate). Neither of those bother me. Great vehicle.

Edit to add: It is the Sport premium package; leather, etc. Very happy when I get to drive it!

The other option to not overlook in the platinum model is the adaptive cruise control. That feature alone is worth the upgrade in my book!

**Edit: it appears to be available on all new models (was only offered in the platinum trim in earlier models such as mine)

Does anyone know the trd sport and pro differences on sequoias? I would imagine wheels, fogs, grill, suspension. What else am I missing?

Aside from the fox pro suspension, fogs, grill and bbs wheels most other items are trim packages. Not sure if the sport has locking rear diff like the pro though.

In addition to those you mentioned, the Roof rack, running boards, and power liftgate are different between the two.

In regards to the 26 gallon tank, it's not an issue for me. It's mostly a road trip vehicle for the family and I can usually get 300 miles or so per tank, that's almost 4 hours of driving. At that point, it's a good time to get out and stretch, use the bathroom, refuel on food, etc. The size is great because I can fit 2 Diono car seats in the 3rd row, still have a person sit in the middle and full 2nd row. And 3rd row seating is great for adults since there is tons of leg room.

Good point on the other pro add-on’s

Agree. The tank also fits us well for road trips and with kids and dogs we can’t make it past 2hrs lol.

When I was driving to work every day I have to admit the tundra tank was nice not hitting the gas station in the morning as often though.

Maziv, did you make a decision?

We just got our second Sequoia after the first one got totaled. The wife was talking about getting something else prior to the collision, but after someone turned in front of her and she hit him going 45 mph and she walked away with fairly minor injuries, she demanded we get another one. They're built like tanks.

I would love to get a Sequoia for the wife it would be quite a step up from the Honda Fit but it's not in the budget.

Yeah, they're expensive and the good/bad is that Toyota holds the resale value so long. There's no way we could get a new one. Our first Sequoia limited was 9 yrs old and had 160k miles when I got it for $15,000, but it ran like new and all we ever did was change the oil. It was totaled at 225k miles. Our second one is a 9 year old Platinum with 133k miles and with the insurance payout, we were able to get it for $19,000. Good thing is, they still look nearly identical to the $70k 2021 model sitting at the dealership.

I'd rather have something like a Corolla or Camry as a second vehicle, rather than a Sequoia. I don't see the point of having two full size, body on frame 4x4s.
