Both will fit a Pro or 2 inch-leveled Tundra. There’s a whole thread devoted to the 295/70r18, so I know how popular that size is. However, some folks do note minimal rubbing at full lock (despite removal of the front mud flap) and it’s a pretty heavy tire. Even if no one will admit it, you’re going to loose power and mileage will suffer with the 295/70.

After using the search bar and taking a poll, I haven’t found nearly as many folks running the 285/70/r18. To me, the 285/70 seems like the perfect size; almost the same height and width as the 295/70 but substantially lighter.

Why isn’t the 285/70r18 more popular? Which did you choose? Post some pics because I’d really like to see if that size difference is noticeable.

I'll throw another one out there that I don't hear talked about much. 285/75/r18. It's actually taller than the 295/70r18, but less likely to rub on the UCA due to the slightly narrower tread.

I'll make a decision after my stock tires are worn down a bit.

The reason 285/70-18 is not more more popular is because there are few tires available in that size.

Of major brands, there are like 5 tires in that size, most are MT, couple AT. So that is generally the problem, folks find a tire they like but it is not available in that size which is why you see more 285/75 or 295s

Makes sense. I’ve always driven KO2s but since BFG doesn’t really make a tire in either size I’ll probably go with the Nitto Ridge Grappler 285/70.

Actual tire size can be quite different between manufactures and products. I just bought a set of Bridgestone Revo 3 (295, 70, 18) the actual dimensions are 33.5" diameter, 54lbs, 11" wide at widest, and 9" tread contact width. One of the tires that was shipped to me actually had a mfg sticker that showed these same values - I weighed 2 of the 4 tires and the weight was accurate.
They were advertised on tirerack as 34.4 high. Most of the other tires in this size were over 65 lbs, but then again they are probably taller too.

Discount Tire has like four different tires in the 285/70R18 size, and they are very expensive. Really a bummer, and I agree I'd love to see more tires in this size.

285/75 Duratracs here. I chose these over the 295/70s for the better UCA clearance and less chance of rubbing issues.

I’ve had them for 5 days and no rubbing so far, even at full lock in reverse. I’m on Pro suspension with the small front mud flaps removed.

Looks perfect. What’s been done to make those fit? I’m guessing either a level or new coil-overs in the front? Do you also have shackles on the back?

Those are the tires I want to get on mine. I recently got the trd pro suspension. Please update us on those tires? Also, did you a spare? Does it fit in there?

I run the 285/70/18. The 285 and 295 are within 1/2 inch of each other IIRC.

So far, they’re great. They are a bit louder than the Michelins, but it’s not bothersome. Mine have the 3-peak snowflake rating.

I didn’t get a spare. I have read that it fits if you bend the tabs back a bit.

The nominal difference would be 10mm, so just over 3/8” on overall width - approx 3/16” to either side of center. But, as someone else posted above, what the tire is sized “nominally” and what the actual measurements are can be different. A lot of 35’s are only 34.5 or less, and I’ve seen more than a few 295/70R18 that came in closer to 33.5.

Regarding the OP question - I think a lot has to do with the selection. Discount Tire has 4 tires in that size, and three are MTs. 85% of my time in the truck is on the highway (for 25-30k miles a year)...I don’t really want the howl and handling of an MT for all of that time. And I spend a good amount of time out on the Cascade Mountain passes in the winter, where they require you to have chains or 3-peak-snowflake rated winter tires. So an AT tire with the 3PS rating is what I look for first and then look at what sizes are available, none of which were in the 285/70. At least that’s the logic that I used...

Discount tire has the Nitto EXO in the 285/70R18, and is 3PS rated. Pretty steep price on the though. I went with Duratracs instead in 275/70R18.

Must have missed those. Yikes on that price! I had great luck with my first set of Duratracs in 275/70 (previous truck). Not so much on the next set after that, but it could have been any number of things.

I didn’t care enough about the slightly bigger size to pay $50 more per tire. I’m sure these are a pretty decent tire though.

I have 285/70’s on my 16 with stock trd wheels. At the time, I didn’t realize how much pricier the 285’s were. And I think they look too small.

Definitely will go the 295 route next time.

    Lots of shenanigans.
I have a 17 TRD Pro and waiting on a C4 overland front bumper to come in. Debating on BF Goodrich KO2 285/65/R18 or 295/70/R18. Do y'all think there will be any rubbing with the 295/70/R18 and an aftermarket front bumper? Also, I understand that the middle number is ratio but can anyone dumb that down for me?

The 295s are 1/2 inch taller and 1/2 inch wider so if your going bigger I’d go 35/12.50/18s then you’ll see a difference. When you put them side by side not much of a difference with 295s you just have a better selection. Next time if I go bigger I’d do 35s or 37s.

Really wish BFG would make the KO2 in a 295/70R18. I even called them to ask if had plans to. They said nope.

The 295/70r18 Ridge Grappler is just 0.33 inches larger in diameter than the 285/70r18. Can you tell the difference? Honest question, because I’ve never seen them side-by-side.
