I tried searching but didn't find anything here.

Does anyone have any experience with the Toyo Open Country H/T 2 or Cooper Discoverer H/T 3 tires?

As much as I'd like to turn my Tundra into an offroad machine, the reality is, it sees a hell of a lot more highway, and the most offroading I do is unmaintained lease roads. I stumbled across these two tires looking for a balance between acceptable offroad performance and comfortable highway driving.

Does anyone know if these tires are 3 Peak Snowflake rated? I couldn't tell from the website, but I assume that means they aren't. Living in Canada, and driving through the mountains several times a year, I'd prefer a tire with a 3 Peak Snowflake rating. Is there anything similar you guys would recommend?

I would take a hard look at the Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT's. They are 3 peak rated (depending on the size), quiet on the highway, and still look great. If you don't want to go that aggressive you could take a look at the Cooper AT3 4S's as well. They are in-between the HT3's and XLT's, and are 3 peak rated.

The Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT and the Toyo Open Country AT3 also made the short list. Both seem to be well reviewed, so right now I'm leaning toward the Coopers just because they are a bit lighter. I take it you have some experience with the XLTs? How do they ride on the highway vs say the stock tires that come on the truck?

I don't mind aggressive tires, I'm just wondering if there is a more comfortable option that is still acceptable off road and functional in unseasonal weather. I've seen snow storms in july and august, and I'd rather not swap tires every time I want to go for a spur of the moment adventure on the weekend.

I'm also looking for a reason not to do a full 3 inch lift and slap 35s on my truck.

I do not have them on my truck (yet) but will soon. My brother in law has them on this truck and when I road with him I couldn't tell much of a difference (if any) in ride quality and noise compared to stock. These were size 275/70r18 on an otherwise stock 19' SR5 TRD OR. We get 120"+ of snow per season and he has nothing but good things to say about them in the snow. A lot of member on here are running these tires that can hopefully chime in. Plus they are made in the USA. :oldglory:

Also suggest that you look at Michelin Defender tires. Excellent handling and tread wear, perfect road manners, M+S rated. And they will surprise you off road, in a good way, in everything except sloppy mud.

Been very happy with our Yoko Geolander ATs, another tire option that's on the aggressive side and very DD and dirt road friendly.

Got the Yokohama Geolander X AT last month and they have been great. 10” on the highway going to work this morning and I was very happy with them. Very quiet 45358AD2-95D2-4236-8512-D38EAB16B964.jpg

I have had both the Cooper and Toyo AT3s on my GX460. I prefer the Toyos but it’s damn close.

Thanks for the suggestions. It looks like most of those come in 35s, which I was half-heartedly trying to avoid.

The michelin defenders look like they come out just a scoch lighter than the coopers, and I like the M+S rating.

I'm not planning on running these tires through the winter. I've got Nokian Hakkapeliitta's picked out for that.

More to think about. Thanks again.

If I were to choose an H/T tire, it would be the Continental Terraincontact. If I wanted a comfortable A/T tire, I would go with the General Grabber ATX.

That is my personal choice. There are a multitude of quality options.

Oddly enough, I just ordered a set of tires for my 19 CrewMax today.
Because of its use and what we were after, we went with some Pirelli's. I will probably regret it in the long run, but only one way to find out!

    Good luck with the search!

    I fully agree with @schlunky.

I live here in SW Michigan and need snow traction also. I switched to new
Continental Terrain Contact H/Ts 275/70R18s in November 2020.
If a smooth, quiet ride with good snow traction is what you're looking for, I highly recommend these.
They are E-rated for towing as well.
    (Though I don't tow anything...)
I looked at A/Ts originally also, but just felt they were overkill for the quantity of miles I drive ON road vs off-road or towing.
I am pleased with how these Continentals handle on dry and snowy roads versus the BF G KO2s I had previously and there is no rubbing at this size either.

I put some Pirelli's on a pathfinder I owned years ago. I LOVED them. Great ride, low road noise, and good off road and in snow.
