Nitto Ridge Grappler vs Toyo Tire Open Country A/T III

Those are loud as hell.

 

Just put on my 2nd set of RG 285/70's. 10 pounds per tire lighter and the same size as the 295's.

 

I have the Toyos, I don't think they are good in rain, but better then the Nittos I had.

 

I have Toyo AT3's and love them. Put some Toyo AT3's on my wifes 2021 pilot and the are amazing!!

 

Had K02's, after 4 attempts to balance them I returned them and went with the Toyo AT3. Balanced on the first try and love the ride, performance, and look.

 

I have the RG with right at 10k on them. So far have met my expectations. Yes, they are a bit loader than say a Terra Grappler or KO2, but they are also considerably more aggressive. My BIL put the exact same size Toyo AT3 and I can’t tell a difference in ride or noise. We both have same 2014 CM with 3/1 level kits, so is about as apples to apples as you can get.
I will say the His Toyos are about 1/2” taller than mine for some reason. Specs don’t show it but we verified.


where are you located? I have the RG in 295/60/R20 on mine. I’m actually thinking of going down a size since we are now pulling a travel trailer around. Open to trading tires and wheels.

 

Don’t worry, the RG will get considerably louder to the point of a roaring freight train. IMO, the RG is only good for about 20k miles before it looses its quality,

 

I can’t comment on the AT3s. But I’m on my third set of AT2s with over 160k miles combined between the 3 sets. I’ve never had any issues with any of them. I’ve literally had sets balance with only one or two stick on weights. I would have no qualms getting the AT3 once these are due.

 

Any trimming involved with your tire size? Looks like you raised it with the Bilsteins, 1-2 inch?

500,000+ on BFG KOs and Tundras, but the quality isn’t there anymore.

Super happy with Nitto RGs. Have them on both my current Tundras

 

I'm about to make the same decision. My KO2s with 35k on them got loud. They were great until right at about 30k then just seemed to get loud and I have been slipping on small inclines in the rain that I didn't prior to 30k. Tread still looks good but performance has changed. Loved them for the first 30k. 275/70r18 now but going bigger now that I got my Ironman setup on. Leaning toward Toyo AT3s or Coopers.

 

What size tires on the t100?

 

I have had the Toyo At2’s now for 55k miles and haven’t had any issues. I had KO2s prior to the Toyo and there is no way I’d go back. Here pretty soon I’m going to replace the AT2’s with the new AT3’s and I can’t wait. I am going to get the same size 295/70r18. Also something worth noting the Toyo has a mileage warranty whereas the Nitto does not.

 

This exactly. The KO2s have a warranty too. I tried the RGs and did not like them after 20k miles. Over the past 15 years ive run through 6 sets of KO2s and they were my go-to tires. I lifted my wife's Subaru last year, had KO2s installed, and to my surprise they were noticably noisy. I ended up replacing them after 1k miles with the Toyo Open Country AT3s and it was a night and day difference. The Toyos were so much quieter, smoother, and really impressed me during the winter storm last winter in Oregon. I instantly became a fan. Also, I just replaced my KO2s with 295-70-18 Toyo Open Country AT3s last weekend. I absolutely love them and will say they are definitely quieter and ride smoother than the KO2s.

 

AT3s weigh less than the ridge grapplers if that kind of thing matters to you

 

I run grabbers an they work awesome when Boondocking.

 

I went from the RG to AT3’s and the AT3 is a superior tire. I grew to hate the RG

 

I switched from Nitto Trail Grappler to Falken wildpeak at3w. I had dry rot cracks after 20k miles with Nitto. And also ride is much smoother with Falken wildpeak at3w

 

I just switched from the KO2's to the Wildpeak AT3W's. Couldn't stand the KO2's any longer, I have run those for many years but this set was not the same as the older ones, too noisy and no good in the wet. Wildpeaks are so quiet, balanced easy and good in the rain. I went with 295/70 R18 with a 3 and 1 lift, fit like a glove, no rubs anywhere.

 

Have yet to drive on a set of Toyos, but I liked the Goodyear Duratracs on my 2020 AT4 better than my Nitos. Road noise seemed worse, but they had a better feel for the road.

 

I went AT3s…have had BFGs and this time went to AT3s because they are lighter…I was surprised how weight and size sensitive our trucks are when it comes to tires/wheels.
