Pretty disappointed with the sound system in my 21 crewmax. Any ideas for a badass upgrade. ?? Thx in advance. D

    Also,

this site has a Tundra Garage forum suite that includes an audio/AV upgrades. When we upgrade our systems, many of us post the details there.

Ideas? How about ripping out the OEM H/U, amp, all speakers and starting over?

2021 Pro!! Nitto’s Tyger blades, Arc audio!
I have had numerous audio systems over the years in a lot of my cars and trucks. I will have to wait and here how my JBL sound is in my new 21 tundra pro. Everyone thinks it’s sounds lousy. I know my JBL in my 2020 4runner pro sounds decent. But I’m not worried about it if I don’t like the JBL in the tundra I will go with tech12 and upgrade the system. I have a awesome audio place near me I know the owner and installer. They did all my installs. He don’t have a problem if I buy the audio stuff from some other vendor that knows works and his installer will install it for me.

How much are you willing to spend?
I would recommend considering OEM Audio Plus.
I upgraded all the speakers in my truck with a 12volttech kit, but without an aftermarket AMP the speakers aren't much of an improvement.
The dash speakers were the best part of the kit.
I got crackling and popping sounds from the sail tweeters.
I don't play music very loud, but with all the truck windows down, my audio system is worthless.

    TEXAS!
    +1 on the oem audio+

installed their jbl upgrade package w/ dual 8" subs. it will NOT wake the neighbors. it WILL sound great!

the only word i know that can describe the oem audio+ is, distinguished.

im am no longer 20 something, or even 30 something for that matter. i wanted a crisp / clear stereo that would 'hit' some, and more importantly, be well staged and balanced.

was shocked how GREAT the oem jbl enhancement sounded! and, with only replacement of tweets, subs, and the addition of acoustical filters.

    oem audio+ is top notch!

Me and my neighbor are doing my buddies 2018 crewmax in about two weeks. We are doing 6.5 Infiniti Kappas on all 4 doors. Infiniti 3.5 inch on the dash. No amp for mids. One Kicker 44cvx102.......10 inch sub 600 RMS 1200 watts max with ported sub box.

I have spent decent amount over the years to have a good system. And had them remove it and put it into the next car or truck I bought. I think if you go with the tech 12 I think you need to go with the 1699 price that has everything plus you need the other audio board for the Headunit that sounds the best looking over there web site. Also I probably would check with my audio place to see if you can run a amp to push the oem JBL speakers with more power before replacing them. They probably can handle more than what the oem amp is pushing them.

Ya, I spent $350ish with the group buy for speakers. I figured it would be an incremental improvement. The dash speakers make that partially true, but still overall disappointed with the investment.
Should have bought an amp, but didn't. Now i am torn between continuing piecing together a kit, or just pay the coin and get a plug and play kit.
I have no plans to change out the factory HU.

    Hey Mark,
When I was at my audio place talking things over a while back with my friend the installer he told me mostly all the installs they do they leave the factory headunit in. Chris told me majority customers want to keep everything working from the headunit and not touch that. I have always changed out my headunit but I’m not doing it this time if I do a upgrade. I did not touch my 2020 4runner Pro and I’m trading that in on my tundra. But I will give it some time before I do anything.

My factory HU has navi, so there is little incentive to spend money on a HU for more features.
Most customers want the factory HU because it means less cost, the issue is getting a clean signal out and power out of the factory HU.
The reality is the factory HU's are bare bones.

    Only solution...
Start from scratch, do it yourself, take your time and it will be worth it. Many different takes on what level of upgrade is needed, but all agree that any upgrade is needed badly. I'm easily over 10k into my system (that doesn't include the 200+ labor hours of my time) but that is certainly not the norm. 99% are satisfied with the packages that some of the vendors offer and many members have gone with and are very happy. So use the search bar and the resources on this forum, and you will find what you think you'll need to be happy.
Good luck, and welcome from CT.

Oh the scary part. Lol. I have seen this enough times. But worth it in the end. When I had my C5Z06 years ago I had my installer completely rip everything out and sound deadening the whole car before the install. Still miss that system. But moved up to a much more beast and added just a powered subwoofer to my C7Z06 and also had the whole inside sound deadening.

I switched out speakers and added amp and sub and tried to keep head unit with dsr1. Sound was major improvement. Decided to swap out hu and just made another huge leap. Went from 2 k to 4 k investment that you can clearly hear

What speakers and subs did you use. Did you add the double subs from tech12volts.

+2 For the OEM Audio Plus. I also added the JBL upgrade with duel 8” subs. Sounds great. Volume, crispness, and just the right amount of bass (or more if you choose). Truly plug and play for an easy install. Their customer service is also amazing.

Has anyone added the tech12volts I believe if I looked at it correctly it’s the 1699.00 hertz speakers and dual subs and everything to upgraded the headunit. I think it’s there top package. Just curious what there thoughts were on it.

I just installed this, but I used my own amp. Look at my thread "Just another satisfied tech12volts customer." I love it.
