My cruise control hasn't been working for a while now, but it hasn't really bothered me until lately.

I switched out the cruise control stalk and its still not working. All brake light bulbs are still functioning. I also checked the brake pedal pressure switch and it doesn't appear to have a rubber washer/stopper - did it come with one?

Would there be any other culprits aside from the clock spring?

This seems obvious but are you pushing the button to set your speed and then pressing down on the stock to turn it on?

Yes lol. The little icon for cruise control on doesn't show on the dash display. Nothing comes up either when i set the speed following pushing down the on/off button.

I figured but it was worth mentioning just in case. I wonder if there's a fuse specific for cruise. Have you cut any wires for any mods like foglight any time, etc?

I brought it to the dealership finally.. they did all the diagnostics @NewImprovedRon attached, eventually (after 2 days) the tech found an open ground somewhere and grounded the switch directly. My cruise control is now back. $250 for diagnostics and labor. I'm glad thats over with.

I just noticed that I have this same issue on my 2008. The cruise control switch seem to be totally inactive.

In addition, the "VSC Off" and slip indicator dash lights came on when I started it up and drove to the gym this morning. When I started it to come home from the gym everything was fine. There were no drivability issues either time. The same thing happened several months ago, but it resolved when I turned off and restarted the truck.

I did find a broken grounding strap that grounds the transfer case to the frame. I'll replace that tonight and see if anything changes.

@blizz86 Just out of curiosity, did the Toyota Tech tell you where the open ground was?

@NewImprovedRon I just read all of the troubleshooting PDFs you attached. There's an awful lot of "Replace ECM" endpoints on those pages.:(

Your going to have to diag it using Techstream. Basically you need to look at the datastream and look to see if the switch is showing ON and OFF as you cycle the switch on and off.

Probably just the cruise control stalk, that's what went out in mine. Cheap and easy to swap out.

You need techstream to diag it properly or you could keep playing "poke and hope".

Search "Techstream" for a copy and what you need for and obd interface.

Ok So I took it to a mechanic and it threw a code p1604 and p1605 but I'm not having any issues of those type of codes The truck cranks fine runs fine I'm completely mind blown. Is there a way I can reset the whole computer system?

Startability code and rough idle codes. When's the last time you changed the plugs? How many miles on the truck? When certain codes are set Toyota stops other systems from being used for safety reasons. I bet if you cleared the codes the cruise will work until the codes come back.

    Thanks for the update.

I was following this thread, and suspected the clockspring was going to be your problem. I was reluctant to throw a $$$ dart for someone else, and the problem turn out to be something like a fuse. The "clockspring" is made of a flat ribbon cable that has multiple thin conductors. Any one of those conductors can fail, and all the others still continue to function just fine.

Just wanted to add another vote for the clock spring which worked for me. Recently bought a 2010 Tundra in great shape but has a bunch of minor issues I've been trying to sort through with the help of this forum. I tried the switch first as it seemed quicker than the clock spring to fix but unfortunately no luck. My horn worked and no issue with air bag lights so I figured switch would be a good place to start. But then after reading a bunch more posts, saw a bunch of people saying their horn worked and it still ended up being the clock spring.

Just got done replacing the clock spring today and got to see that beautiful cruise light, light up. lol. Was worried I'd need a steering wheel puller but did like a few I saw on YouTube do and give a couple healthy bumps to either side of the wheel and she popped right off. This forum is fantastic!
