IT'S OFFICIAL! FULLY ELECTRIC TOYOTA PICKUP TRUCK COMING! - 2023 TOYOTA TUNDRA EV?

I'm not trying to be insulting. Maybe you know something that I'm missing.

 

Check out the bottom of page 1, there is new technology that 'could' make Hydrogen the most logical choice.

 

I’m just amazed of all the experts giving their unabashed information from that great place of study called, “I heard from someone...”.

 

My strictly, fly of the pants, observation...
EV will be around and will be seen in a multitude of platforms. So I’ve been told.

1890... you would think they would have perfected it by now.

 

So the race is on. Who will come up with a way to make Hydrogen cost effective or who will make a better quicker charging, longer lasting EV battery.

The industry seems to be betting on batteries.

 

Imagine if it filled our tanks every time it rained.

I’m mean, it would suck for you guys in the southwest, but the rest of us would be fine.

 

In the 50s and 60s there was a push on governments by the petroleum industry to remove anything electric. In most cities electric buses and trains were common, not so much any more. It really set us back.

 

EV's are going to be great for the people who don't drive long distances and fly everywhere (while pretending the working class are the problem) and have enough money to overpay for everything while outsourcing the filth, pollution and human rights abuses to places they can't see so don't worry their sophomoric little brains about. It's nothing more than social signaling at other peoples expense.

That said, I'd love to have a Rivian alongside my Tundra (which you can pry out of my cold dead hands)

 

I think methane is the way of the future. There's so much of it being generated right now from all the bullshit that's in everything being touted as green, especially EV's!

This is the key. Toyota is about the only huge driver of hydrogen while EV has pretty much every other huge manufacturer. Combine that with the public perception of hydrogen and it's going to be driven out by EV's. This is like the HD DVD v Blu Ray competition - only one ever seems to win out.

 

The $75K Rivian price tag doesn't put it too far above the prices with mark-up being asked for new Tundras you can find right now at dealerships. My only problem is Ford's partnership with Rivian. With my past experience with most of the Ford's I've owned, I will never buy another Ford.

 

The industry is betting on getting carbon credits to sell by converting their fleets to 'lectric. It's how Tesla makes their profits and should work for the other manufacturers.

 

Ya, the ford thing would be worrying. But moot. I make decent money but not so much as pissing away over $100k ($cdn) on a toy. As cool at it looks with the pull out camp kitchen (snow peak!) it certainly can't be justified as anything other than a rich man (or woman's) toy. Like all the other ev's.

And one day all those batteries will require disposal. Even nuclear waste doesn't combust with nothing but air (like lithium).

 

This is it exactly. People in Eastern Canada would rather buy their oil from places that have no safety, environmental conservation or human rights considerations than allow us to build a pipeline to ship it to them from Western Canada.

 

Man if that was the case, the price of burritos would go through the roof.

Plus, my truck would get FAR better gas mileage.

 

Translation: Every taxpayer has to pitch in to make EVs profitable.

Translation of Translation: EVs are so expensive that they are not a viable business model without Government Taxpayer subsidies.

 

No, people have magical fairy thinking that if they just ban all the things, all the bambis will be happy and we all get to join in the disney sing-song dancing in the forest.

People are stupid and don't think at all. The mostly comfortable-to-rich people who think all food magically appears at the local organic vegan restaurant and who have never met someone who works with their hands figures if they don't have a pipeline, they've saved the world. The don't have a thought in their head after that. Goes back to what I said before, out of sight, out of mind. Like a toddler who figures if they can't see it, it isn't there.

 

And it's not just the people who don't think at all. While in the Navy I remember standing in line behind some aviation technicians who were openly questioning why 'nukes' (nuclear reactor operators - I was trained as one but didn't make the final exam) were needed on the boat:

"Why do we need them or their reactors? We can just use the steam supply that drives the catapults to power the ship!"

We have an EV car and it is awesome, scary fast, gets roughly 100 mpg equivalent (CO2 emissions) and will be net cost savings for us after 5 years. I look forward to a time when alt-fuel trucks are viable for towing. Definitely not yet! The timeframe would be accelerated greatly if the government subsidized alt-fuels to just 1/10th the degree they’ve subsidized fossil fuels. There is so much to like, but until then ....

MORE BS Speculation-

 

Wouldn’t an EV truck be better than an ICE engine? Instant power to all wheels, higher ground clearance with no differential/exhaust pipes. Put your stuff in the front trunk since no engine there anymore, more towing, less parts moving around like the transmission and torque tube. Don’t have to SMOG anymore. Did I mention trunk space where you can put your spare tire or guns? I’m seriously asking because if not for the sound of the exhaust, I can’t see too many negatives. I’m sure charging times will only improve as well as driving distances for road trips.

 

Interesting. It might make sense seeing GM releasing a fully electric Hummer plus the whole Tesla Cybertruck..etc
Fully electric with massive torque and long range I might be in.
In any case I'll be watching from the sideline the first few years, enjoying my loud V8

 

there is no subsidies to fossil fuels. they are cash cows to all levels of government everywhere. what is there is a lack of understanding of basic accounting. what the propagandists call a subsidy is simply being allowed to deduct expenses. like every other business everywhere. ever.
