Are Manual Seats Good Enough?

Still shopping....the red SR5 I'm eyeing has a manual passenger seat. My pretty light wife said the seat wasn't great, but she could probably adjust.

I almost bought a Limited w/ dual leather power seats and we both liked how they felt. A power driver seat is a must for me, but I don't need leather.

For those of you that have also compared all the different seats, what are your thoughts? Are the manual seats not too great? I'm not thrilled that they don't even have a lumbar adjustment.

I have power on the driver side and manual on the passenger. I could go without the driver side power. I adjust my seat when I buy the truck and hardly ever again, so I don't see the need for the power components that are only being used a few times during the truck's life.
Having said that, the manual seats are typically only forward/backward adjustment while the power seats can adjust tilt and height also. I don't see why the tilt and height could not be a manual adjustment either. I would rather spend that money somewhere else.
But both the driver and passenger seats are comfortable for me.

None of the seats are great. Only if they happen to fit your body will you be comfortable. I’d say, you should both sit in ‘em if you’ll both be in the truck regularly.

Being able to adjust the drivers seat helps. So maybe an adjustable passenger seat would make a difference for her.

I agree. Even manual seats in many cars are pretty adjustable. I've had other Toyotas, so my expectations aren't too high, but mediocre seats bum me out.

Not sure if Limiteds are same as Platinum, but I love my Platinum where it retracts the steering wheel and seats when exiting and entering. Makes it much easier. I used to also say I didn't need power because I only set it once and never move the seat, but now I'm spoiled.

How often do you plan on adjusting the seats?

When you do, how hard is it?

For me it also depends on how long you will be in the seats.

Long Trips, forget about it,I adjust constantly to get the blood moving again.

I have Manual and they simply suck to me.

But I can get used to almost anything at the same time!

The power seats on the limited are not the same. The power passenger seat does not have a tilt adjustment.

If you took the time to post about it then it must matter to you and your wife. If you’re gonna spend that much money on something it should be as close to everything you want as possible.

My ‘20 SR5 DC has a power driver’s seat. I definitely would not have purchased a Tundra without it. I added Cover King Neosupreme seat covers for a bit of extra cushioning. This truck is super comfortable to me, and I’ve made several 1000 mile trips in it.
If you don’t want all the exterior chrome and other expensive bells and whistles, look for an SR5 with the SX package. I prefer the DoubleCab over the CrewMax because I wanted a longer bed, and rarely have back seat passengers.

    SX Package
    • 18” 5-spoke black alloy wheels
    • Front bucket seats
    • 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat
    • Color keyed grille surround, bumper caps, rear bumper
    • Badge delete

I definitely agree, but even though there are a lot of dealers in my area, the selection is limited and I'll probably have to compromise.

It's not so much the difficulty, but the quality. The manual seats offer very little adjustment on these trucks, so I was just wondering if owners overall find the manual seats to be satisfactory.

Power seats aren’t a must have for me but having it in my Tundra is great. I am very short and I highly appreciate how high I can adjust it. In many of the other Toyota’s I have owned, you are only able to move the rear half of the seat (pivotal I guess) on the manual seats. As a side note my SR5 Tundra has hands down the most comfortable and plushest seats in any Toyota we have owned. But like someone mentioned prior that’s all dependent on the individual…

I believe the limited seats are just sr5 seats wrapped in leather with power adjustments and heated seats. The 1794 and platinum seats are diffrent shape, cushion, heated and vented. I have a friend with a bad back. He sat in my 1794 and loved the seats . he went out and bought a limited, and said it hurt his back after 10 min. He ended up selling it. He's been trying to find a 1794.

P.s. as far as needing power seats. My wife is a foot shorter than me. The memory seats , power steering wheel are almost a must. On a side note . I have to make sure she changes back to my setting before getting out or it will crush me against the steering wheel when I crank the truck up and the seat moves foward.

Thanks. I find them to be firm, but comfortable overall. This will be our first expensive car purchase, so naturally I have to overthink everything!

Completely understandable…it’s a lot of money. If you have the opportunity sit in an 3rd gen SR5 Tacoma and 5th gen SR5 4Runner. But ONLY the SR5 models…. Those seats are ROCK hard. I owned a 2017 4Runner and ended up with holes in seats because they were so firm. You could see the wear from my wallet and the button wear from all the cargo shorts/pants I wear. Oh and the severe rust, hence why I question the whole Japanese quality thing…but I digress (I apologize I am bitter about that purchase). I end up putting thin memory foam cushions in all the Toyota’s I have owned.
