Guys I have looked everywhere I can think to look for a cam kit for my 06 4.7l (DC SR5) and I’m about to the point where I’m gonna say nobody makes one for our old trucks… Unless one of y’all know where I can find one? Nothing crazy just looking for a stage one kit that I can somewhat still daily for a couple years. Any help is appreciated and if I’m right that there’s just no kits then confirmation would be great, thanks!
    Pic’s my baby lol

Pretty sure that's a no go. You're better off looking at headers and 12 hole injectors.

I live in a small town, so I feel like I’d benefit from gears with all the stop and go, and short driving habits. almost 98% of my driving is under 45-50mph.

Yeah the duration on those cams and overlap angles are not going to play nicely with the stock torque converter, nor produce nice power much below 4500 RPM if I had to guess.

Yea, you’d really just want a tighter lsa, make the powercurve more peaky, so it feels faster. Rowdy cams wont get you anywhere without close to $10k other parts.

has anyone figured out how to ‘ghost cam’ the vvti engines?

    https://youtu.be/JjZCyczrluA
    It must be doable?

Unfortunately like most DOHC engines the Toyota V8’s are not a popular option for guys who want to modify their engines. Unlike the LS series V8 handed down to GM by God himself for some good deed GM did.

So there’s a few things we don’t readily know about the 4.7L or any of the other Toyota V8’s that you kind of need to have a good idea of before ordering up some cam shafts.

1.) How much air can the stock heads flow in and out with the stock valves?

2.) How do the stock heads react to larger cams with more valve lift?

Without putting the heads on a flow bench or seeing results from a flow bench it’s tough to say what will work and what will not.

Maybe 4.7L heads flow lots of air like an LS3 head and will make power all day long with a big cam, or even hang good power at higher RPM’s with a cam oriented towards midrange RPM’s. See this frequently with LS cams with stock heads, even mild cams still pick up 100hp up top because the cylinder heads are just that good on the stock casting.

Alternatively the cylinder head could be a Turkey and not flow enough air to make it worth your time. Truck cylinder heads from domestics are often like that, because it’s all about low engine speeds and torque.

Does anyone know a source for data on 4.7L cylinder head CFM’s?

OK. I don’t want to piss on parades here but:

They pulled 50.0 inches of water to get those numbers. So they’re essentially simulating flow with forced induction. Naturally aspirated numbers won’t be as impressive. Plus the head had valve work done to it, so it’s been machined.

My guess is the OP is going to be pissing up a rope doing cams in his NA 4.7L. That’s a lot of money in parts alone before labor and dyno tuning to pick up probably well under 100hp NA.

Unfortunately the best bang for your buck power adder to the 4.7L is a blower. If you’re looking at $$$/horsepower and torque that’s where it’s at for your truck.

A set of 4 cams, install and tune you’d be into that for well over $3K, at that point you’re close enough to a TRD blower….
