$77k and doesn't even include the 6.2? Sorry, not for me. Maybe the 10spd helps the 5.3, but I was unimpressed with it in the Sierra w/6spd auto I had. Your wife might not notice or care though, I know mine wouldn't.

We had a 5.3 Suburban that was total garbage. Dashboard fell apart, thousands in repairs (AC/heat, suspension, engine, you name it). Traded it with 150k on it (got next to nothing for it) and now couldn't be happier with the Sequoia we've had for a year and a half. I don't really understand what all the fuss is about how dated the interior is. What exactly are you looking for? Ours has captain's chairs, leather, AC, heated seats, etc. Our kids now all have their own electronic devices and can watch whatever they want for entertainment on long trips. I prefer to just yell into the back, "just look out the window, enjoy the scenery!" That 5.3 is a turd in my opinion, I used to have two of them. Now I have two 5.7s and am never looking back.

I had a nine year old Tahoe with 121,000 that had nothing but expensive issues and I was offered 3 grand by a dealer. Sold it private for 5.
I’ll take dated reliability Toyota over glitzy dog shit GM
But, since you’re asking I’d take the Chevy.

That’s what I saw before I bought this Escalade. Some people have had good luck others not so much. Heard they got a bad batch of lifters and didn’t want to recall all vehicles.

Hulk, are those GMCs Denali’s or 5.3l?

Have you seen any Escalades with this issue? Thinking of selling it for a quick $15k profit. Lol.

Wow gents, thanks for all this. I was gone for a day and the thread blew up. Spent 10 min reading through all of it. Well they are both all pretty much sold out around me. Both the Tahoe and the Yukon. No dealer trading on them either. Apparently, selling like Tundras. All I can do is order one from production and then October at best. I’ve heard some horror stories here and other places about both of them. Gonna keep mulling it over. Keep the suggestions coming, unless it’s a minivan. You can shove a Sienna or an Odyssey, or gif forbid a Carnival…

Tahoe/Yukon and Expeditions are the only viable Full Size SUV’s at this time. Great option for GM’s would be the Duramax. Engine is a beast. Expedition should be getting a refresh 2022. 3.5 EB also is effortless driving. I’ve seen some updates on the new sequoia. That looks to be a 2023 model if Toyota can get it together.

Yep, that’s what is tough. Those are really the three contenders without jumping up to over 100k for an Escalade or Navigator. Just talked to GMC Chevy and sounds like the 22 production is firing up. Probably best to wait for the 22 so they can iron out a few of issues.

I disagree with the idea that the Expedition is better in every way than the full-size GM SUV twins. The Expedition has a long-standing pedigree as a horribly unreliable vehicle. I like the idea of a feature-laden TTv6 3-row SUV the size of a Suburban, but not if it's built by Ford. They just have a ton of issues. Looks like some of the brand new GMs aren't faring much better as far as issues are concerned, though.

We have a new Tundra and a 2012 Yukon XL. Seems redundant as we both drive thirsty, full-size trucks. She likes the Yukon. My goal is to keep it running till the new Sequoia comes out. GM and Ford are rushing new designs to production in a way that makes me VERY hesitant to spend $60-80k on one.

They do? Literally everyone I know who owns an Expedition a) loves it, b) bought one because they've owned them in the past, and c) has never really had any issues with their Expeditions.

With that said, I'll say that based on reliability alone, were I to choose between the Suburban and the Expedition, I'd choose the former; but I wasn't aware of any huge issues w/the Expeditions. Are we talking current generation or previous generations?

Yeah I know two people with new Expeditions (bought within the last year). They seem happy with them so far. And my brother in law was given one as a loaner for a week by the dealership while his truck was in their shop. At first he loved it, and was thinking about buying one, but it had issues in the short time he drove it (electrical stuff, burning oil at 20k miles). Since the redesign, it seems they have become more popular. DL gives them a pretty awful long-term reliability rating. Keep in mind DL only inspects powertrains.

They've inspected 21,000 of them, and their results net the Expedition an overall rating of 22/100:

OP I personally wouldn't own a domestic brand vehicle out of warranty, in regards to the powertrains. I got a JLU for the wife (because that's the only vehicle she wants) and you better believe as soon as the warranty is up, it's gone. The lifters issue with GM seems to be hit or miss, so if that's what will work for your family, I would just make sure it's under warranty throughout my ownership.

GM hasn't say anything yet other than just replace them as they come in.

This is what GM just came out with. This has been a common issue as well.

Condition: "Certain 2020-2021 model year Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and 2021 model year Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon vehicles may present a broken engine valve spring. This may cause the engine to run rough, an engine knocking or ticking noise, a check engine light illumination, or a possible vehicle stall."

Correction: "Dealers are to perform the inspection procedure contained within this bulletin."

Per GM, tech needs to let vehicle idle for 4.5 hours while running test. Ouch

I still vote Land Cruiser (they look nice with a small lift and 33’s). Plus they have the 5.7/8 speed that Toyota never put in the Tundra.

But I’d gamble with the 3.5 Ecoboost before I’d do a DFM/AFM GM V8. All have their issues, EB is plagued by cam phasers while you have GM’s dropping lifters.

I’d have no problem buying the HD GM gassers, the 6.0 Vortec has been solid in all our farm trucks. The 6.6 gas doesn’t seem to have too many issues and they don’t have DFM/AFM either.

I’d dump either before the warranty expires
