My 2018 Toyota Tundra.jpg 20210608_133907.jpg Good Morning! I'm a Newbie to this forum and to towing with my Tundra.

I have a 2018 Toyota Tundra Limited CrewMax 4x4. I'm interested in a travel trailer, but I'm very doubtful my Tundra will tow it safely. Here is the link: https://forestriverinc.com/rvs/travel-trailers/vibe/28BH/4472

I'm asking all of you forum experts if my truck will tow it as well as what I would truly need for added safety?

Thanks and I appreciate the input.

Need a picture of the other sticker in your driver's door, the one that shows your payload but you'll probably be over that once you have the truck and trailer loaded up. I'm willing to bet that dry hitch weight on the trailer is close to your payload capacity.

Payload on my truck is 1270 lbs so with the canopy on my truck, I'd be over weight with just me in the truck and the trailer empty. What's your truck's payload capacity?

I’m going to say no, your Tundra is not a good truck for that size trailer. Two reasons:
    1. I don’t know what the towing capacity of your truck is on paper, but that trailer is heavy. You will easily add 1,000lbs in water and gear. That to me seems like it puts you very close to the truck’s GCWR if not over.
    2. That trailer is 36’+ long. You need a heavy tow vehicle with a longer wheelbase to help keep the truck planted. Otherwise you can have a tail-wagging-the-dog situation.
I’ve towed a 32’ trailer that weighed 8,500lbs loaded with a F350 CC LB. it was stable, but would wiggle with a good crosswind. I just don’t think you have enough truck to be safe for that trailer.

Unfortunately, I only see the sticker of the attached 2nd picture. There isn't a sticker located anywhere on the drivers side door or passenger.

I look up at Toyota website, it said limited 4x4 crew cab max tow is 8800 lbs…
It’s gonna max out once you have people and gear

I am definitely no expert but I say you should go with your gut feeling…. Locally you would be fine but once you start going longer distances=no bueno. Truthfully if you want a trailer that big you should definitely get a 3/4 truck. I always air on the side on safety. I never like to exceed 70% of the towing capacity. IMHO that’s just me and my experiences with commercial trucks. Having a lighter duty truck while performing heavy duty tasks is never fun.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN THE TUNDRA SUCKS THOUGH. It’s a lighter duty truck as all 1/2 ton pickups are.

Good luck OP and that a very nice truck you got there!

Weird. I thought they'd been including the payload sticker for a number of years.

Thanks everyone for your input. I figured it would be too heavy and unsafe to tow. I'll stick with a lighter travel trailer.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for asking questions.

My trailer is just under 4,000lbs loaded With my heavy pin weight, my truck is right at GVWR with the family in the cab, and a cooler full of beer in the bed. The truck has plenty of stank left in it, but I wouldn’t want to tow much more than about 6,000lbs….assuming I could keep the pin weight the same.

All the stickers on the door are nice, but not “real world” for you. I recommend loading the truck with fuel, people and gear to simulate what you’ll have in the truck for a weekend and then going to the truck scales. That will give you the best numbers for towing capacity and pin weight.

That trailer is going to whoop a half ton trucks ass. That’s 3/4 or bigger territory.

The Cement color is great as well. There's a couple of people in my area that have it. It looks really good in direct sunlight.

I look at the payload as a guide. I mean we all know it's ridiculously lower than what it's capable of but yeah this trailer is a bit more than even I would be comfortable towing.

As others have said, that trailer is too large for a Tundra. You're in 3/4 ton territory there.

Not sure where you are from, but if your dealer can access inventory from Forest River West (Oregon build) consider the Vibe 24DB - 630 hitch weight, 5800 lbs dry and a 28 foot hitch to bumper length. https://forestriverinc.com/rvs/travel-trailers/vibe-west/24DB/4622

You will get lots of opinions on here, but to me this is as big as I would safely tow with a Tundra.

Thanks for the information and your opinion. The original travel trailer in this thread was just to see if the Tundra would even tow it safely. This is the travel trailer I'm really looking at: https://www.keystonerv.com/product/passport-gt/premium-travel-trailers/floorplans/2400RB

It's similar to the specs in the link you gave. What do you think of that one?

Yes, you are within specs for most Tundras with that one. As others mentioned, your hitch weight is what you need to watch. While a 600 lb hitch weight isn't huge, Tundras just don't have a lot of payload. It's super easy to go through 1000 lbs of payload with a few people and a trailer.

No problem. If you have some time, there are some great posts on this forum about Tundras and how they tow. So many trailer choices are not "can" you tow it but "should" you tow it. Collect as much info as you can and, if this is your first trailer, don't cheap out on a weight distribution hitch. Get a good one - it will make the journey so much safer and enjoyable.

And some airbags, or sumo spring. Tundra leaf spring is only for looks, no capability what so ever
