Is there are crowd of first gen Sequoia people hanging out anywhere? Prices on those things are nuts. They are so cheap. What is the payload on those things?

There are several members that hang out here that own 1st Gen Sequoias. Definitely some value to still be had there.
I think @rock climber and @15whtrd both have one.

I just got an email with tracking info for what should be the very last package for my 1stgenoffroad order.
Just in time for me to not take it to WV this weekend because it's 3 full days of work and I just don't have the time. :/

I guess I better order some brake lines. Need to flush that system anyway, so now's the time.

This is the week I start the revitalization of my truck. Starting to make a list of what I'll do myself and what I'll have the mechanic do. Spark plugs and accessory belt I'll do. Leafsprings may be the mechanic unless my friend is able to come help out or the labor cost is low enough. Carrier bearing and front transfer case rear seal leak will be the mechanic. Muffler I can do but it's such a quick job I may have the mechanic just do it when they hunt down the exhaust leak. I'd also like to have the seals and bushings in my steering rack checked and possibly replaces. I'll also have the mechanic check the front end. I may end up just doing a full front end rebuild depending on the cost.

Anyone know of a vendor that sells an upgraded battery cable kit for the 1st gens? The factory ones are pretty weak and I'd like to have this all ready for when I eventually do the timing belt job because it will be much easier to do at that time.

The HDs combined with the hammer hangers is next on my list. Hard to find review of the leafs, specifically total lift and how they hold up over time. Made of 5160 just like Alcan - I'm thinking Archive has designed the pack and just sources assembly to one of the big names. Archive is out of NY so would think a spring provider up in that area :notsure:

Sunday night crafting. I found an old tool caddy by the curb of a rental house when I was walking the dogs. I grabbed it and a few of the worn out tools. I cut it in half along with the top of an old switch. I will paint them. They are just held on with clecos for now.

The owner of Archive, Eric, is very helpful if you have any questions. The last time I asked about the Shackleton's he actually said they may be too much for me. Back on 7/7/20 he told me "I do think they'll be too much spring rate. Deaver would be a good option. Right now I don't have time to do another lighter spring". I told him I typically have around 400 pounds in my bed when you include the topper and tools. He said they are really intended for folks carrying more weight. "500 lbs is the minimum recommended weight, and these are really ideal in the 800-1000lb range."

I also know he's known to try new spring rates with each batch so it's worth reaching out to him to see if anything has changed.

FYI @Tundra2 ive got a 04-06 access cab driver mirror I’d you wanna screw with it. The triangle is smaller than the double cab and wouldn’t work for me but It’s yours if you wanna pay shipping to try and fit a ditch light with it. Or to anyone else that’s interested in a project.

I'm happy to reach out when the time comes. With that past input, I may look elsewhere, though. I don't carry much in the back now that I've gotten rid of the shell. Archive offers a medium duty spring, but my concern is that Eric advertises 2.0" of lift unloaded, and I need a bit more than that (hence why I've been eyeballing the HDs).

I'll see if he chimes in. I know you two are both running quite a bit of weight in the back, though.

My 04 is showing 1250lbs with a GVWR of 6600lbs. I gain 106lbs of payload if the 3 row seats are removed.

I wonder what the weak link is in their weight rating formula. Because mine has been abused for the last several years.

I have no idea what my 4runner's is. It does not say on the sticker (98). I think it is about the same as my truck though. 1300-1400. This seems like Toyota's magic number. Car, truck suv this is the max payload on any well optioned model. Even a 200 series land cruiser or LX is right around 1400. I hope Toyota fixes that with the new Tundra(does anyone know?). A well optioned turd gen can come with less than 1100 pounds of payload. less than many cars.

From my experience Toyota's payload is limited first by the suspension. Has anyone seen any rear axle failures from overloading? I have seen one 2nd gen tundra hat was 1000 pounds+ over and had a failure.

and here is a stock LX since you guys got me thinking about it. Does anyone else here plan to buy one of these some day?

One of my parents friends had an 80’s landcruiser on 37s or 40s. Had little rope ladders to help people get in. Ive never been a swamp crawler, so i only got to see it offroad at the beach, but that big 6 and manual everything seemed unstoppable compared to my ‘88 comanche.

I drove an early model and it still had glass headlights. I was in love. If I didn't have plans to tow a slightly bigger trailer I think I would pick up a 100 series. Those are the perfect life size SUV.

I think i wanna go to the tundra plant here in san antone. Website looks like they have a little museum, and i might be able to schedule a tour. I know they didnt build the first gens, but it may be interesting. And i could heckle the fools who are there wanting a sixth gen.

    ‘00-‘02 1st
‘01-‘04 squaw and double cab 2nd
    ‘05-‘06 with vvti 3rd
    2nd gen 4th
    ‘3rd gen’ 5th
    And turbos 6th.
