    Hello, everyone.

Brand new member here, brand new Tundra owner. I purchased a 2014 model, and it needs to have the tow hitch assembly replaced. Thought this would be a fairly painless procedure, but the hitch shop told me these trucks that come with the factory hitch cannot have just the hitch assembly replaced -- the entire rear bumper has to go with it.

Is this accurate? Any other option? If not, where can I find one without paying $2500 for a new bumper and hitch to be installed.

    My thanks in advance!

No. The bumper separates from the hitch and could be re-used on a new one. Hitch is expensive, but that price seems high. Replacing due to rust? If so, is the bumper rusted enough shop wants to replace? Does it have BSM, that’s expensive to recalibrate and would factor in. Where are you located, have a few oem hitches need gone.

Sounds like a shop full of dumbasses to me. Here is mine when I replaced my rear bumper with aftermarket.

Thanks, Dave. Looks like the original owner must have tried to tow something too heavy, or something. The evidence shows that the hitch was bent / fractured on both sides, and then a really safe & sound decision to weld a couple pieces of rebar in the gaps was made. Really dumb. The bumper is absolutely fine. I just need a new hitch, and this hitch shop claimed the bumper has to be replaced as well because the hitch cannot come off by itself.

    I'm in Virginia.

some members here try to get rid of factory tow hitch from time to time when they upgrade to low pro rear bumper. You might be lucky and score one here for cheap.

Welcome! Have a brand new take off from a 2020 sitting in my yard I will send for the ride, need out of my yard. Shipping is the problem, if you want to look into the feasibility of it I’m in. If the hitch bent, it’s likely frame bent also, so new one might not bolt up without some tweaking.

    I’m from Ashburn VA lol

Thank you very much, gents. I knew that initial bit of advice didn't seem right. I will keep my eyes peeled here for a factory hitch.

Thank you for that offer, Dave! I have some shipping connections through my business, so I will see what might be possible. Mind posting your ZIP code here or sending via PM?

I had my mechanic give the entire truck a good going over just today, and he didn't mention any issues with the frame itself. I suppose that could show up more clearly when a new hitch is bolted onto it, though.

This Tundra Dave is still in Ashburn. Hoping to be out west in a couple years myself.

Good luck with the hitch, OP.

Here are some other options for hitch replacement for your 2014. BTW, I am in Richmond too!

These say they dont fit factory hitch trucks, but you may want to call them and get more info on that. Not sure why that would be the case.

    https://www.etrailer.com/hitch-2014_Toyota_Tundra.htm?&Redirect=8

Other than that or ordering one from the dealer, I would check all the local pull a parts and salvage yards, we have several decent ones close or in Richmond

Curt mfg makes a really good HD Tundra hitch. Better than the oem really.

Hello, I know this is an old post but I need a hitch if mine is damaged and I am in Mesa AZ. Any chance you have one for a 2020 with chrome bumper? I also need the bumper without back up sensors. It would be awesome to find both still bolted together. I just bought myself a crashed Tundra. TIA John

I called Curt Friday they and their website says it does not fit (replace) a factory installed hitch vehicle.
