Toyota USA is talking about Diesel

    Is this a hint?

The engine in the video shows inline 4 cylinders
    a turbo at 3:50 minutes

At one point they were talking about adding the Cummins 5L but sadly that never came to fruition. The turbo diesel would be nice….. guess we will see if they add it as an option but my guess with an increased focus on hybrid powertrains, they will probably not want to invest in a diesel option. Only time will tell though.

Toyota already ships diesel vehicles to every part of the world except the USA.

Idk, if they had no plans to offer some type of diesel powertrain in the US, why would they post this video within 2 months of announcing a few new vehicles on the Toyota USA Youtube channel?

A 3/4 ton Tundra, although a difficult enterprise in the current market, would be a license to print money.

True. But not in the US market. Why is Toyota USA talking about diesel engines?

They wouldn't be able to produce them fast enough. I bet people would jump on preorders like nothing else.

Well Toyota USA covers all North American markets which still is interesting that this is being discussed.

I don’t think anything will come of it, but been surprised before….

Yeah. It's interesting for sure, especially with the timing of the new Tundra and all the mystery still surrounding the powertrains that will be offered with it. Still, I refuse to get my hopes up.

I doubt anything will come of it. Even ford just killed off its half ton diesel option. Unless they release a 3/4 or larger tundra (unlikely) I don't think this will mean anything.

Also explaining how turbo diesels on less cylinders function , and making all the parallels in how they are frequently used with turbos etc etc could just be a way for them to warm people up to the idea of a small displacement engine with forced induction on a gas motor. Could I be wrong ? Maybe , but I feel what I laid out is infinitely more likely than them introducing a diesel incognito with zero auto mags knowing anything about it.

Maybe the longbed crewmax we saw in the spy shots (assuming it's not a double cab) is a diesel, and they could have been running 6 lugs to fool us? Who knows. But it'd be pretty awesome

Would be so awesome, I'd try to get one. I keep thinking the same would happen if Toyota produced a van shell like the Mercedes Sprinter (would be popular at least here in CA from what I can see)

The Ford 3.0L diesel was an extremely slow selling option, and was distinctly inferior to the GM 3.0L diesel and the Ram 3.0L diesel in reviews of the trucks. I do not think GM or Ram have any trouble selling theirs.

While a diesel option would be nice in the Tundra, I think they have committed to the turbo v6 / hybrid idea. I can see them considering a smaller diesel option for the Taco or 4Runner though.

If they put a descent diesel option in the 4Runner, I’ll probably end up buying my 4th.

We are going to see a full electric Tundra before we see a diesel.
