Hey all. I have a 2002 Tundra SR5 . I recently bought is and ordered a key fob off Amazon. Tried to program it and it didn’t work. Tried this with 3 more different fobs eBay and Amazon said fit and still no good. Does anyone know how to tell what fob goes with my truck so I don’t waist any more money? Thanks

What method did you use to program?

I found on YouTube. Key in and out 2 times then open and close door 2 time key in and out open door 2 times key in turn on and off the the door locks open and close to let you know it’s in program mode

I hope I'm not thinking about one of the dozens of other vehicles I've had, but it's stuck in my head the 1st gens have a 3-fob limit. Once reached, you need to purge. If your truck is entering programming mode and you get the beep and flash, it should be equipped to use a fob. Here's my advice, take it or leave it.

Try the method in the attachment here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/need-help-disabling-automatic-door-locks.33158/#post-1931311

Start on page 4 by clearing the remotes. Then go back to page 2 and try to add your remote.

Warning I'll add because I'm stupid. Key has four positions, OFF, ACC, ON, START. First time I did the programming procedures I was too dense to realize I was kicking the key to ACC instead of ON, so it never actually entered programming mode. Don't be dense like me. Follow the instructions to the letter, including starting with the door in the correct state of opened/closed and have the key in the position it needs to be after.

I have an 03 Access Cab with the same issue (now resolved). Double cab and access cab fobs are different. When trying to determine the fob FCC ID you need so that the fob can communicate with the ECU, first determine if your truck came with the Toyota RS3200 VIP security package. Original fobs for the RS3200 system are kind of an oval shape with a small red light at the top. Another way to determine RS3200 presence is that you will have a light in one of the blanks to the left of the steering wheel. Usually marked TOYOTA SECURITY SYSTEM or whatnot. I spent months trying to find the right fob, and finally found a set on Amazon that programmed successfully. The FCC ID for my 03 is
    BAB237131-056
    Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0859JGB4P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Hope everything works out!

Hooray! It worked! I successfully programmed a remote fob for my Tundra!
I first went to my Toyota dealer to find out if it was remote capable, and after a long search, they said it was, and that I could purchase a remote fob from them for $150 plus whatever it would cost to program it to my truck.
Then, as suggested somewhere here on the 1st Gen forum, I bought a fob at "CarandTruckRemotes.com." It cost $59 plus about $3 shipping. It is returnable except for shipping cost, so I felt comfortable trying it myself.
I held my breath and followed the instructions to the letter. It didn't work on the first try - I think I held the button too long on one of the steps - but it worked perfectly on the second. The whole process took less than ten minutes.
I was afraid that, since it wasn't the original fob, that it wouldn't do everything the fob on my hubby's 2012 Tundra does, but it performs exactly as his does. It unlocks the driver's door on the first push of the "unlock" button, unlocks the other door on the second push, and even beeps and flashes the lights as it does it.
    Yay!
Thank you, everyone, for all your advice here - I wouldn't have tried it without you!

So yesterday I tried the instructions a few times, no beep or flash for me. I also have a blank on the spot where the security light would be.

window sticker from sale says SR5 convenience package and I distinctly remember it coming with a fob.

I’m wondering if maybe there is a different sequence for not RS3200 equipped?

Im tempted to try techstream and see if maybe it knows what to do and can help guide.

My only issue with programming my fob was the time I held down the buttons - I needed to hold them down for precisely the seconds they said to do so in the instructions. But it worked eventually!

My dealer said they would do it for me - it would have cost a lot more but if a fob is what you want (and I"m glad I have it!) then it might be worth paying your dealer to do it for you.

Good luck with yours - hope you can get it done soon!

RS3000 should be what is installed for your yr. I would suggest going thru the below thread. There is a wealth of knowledge shared concerning location of keyless ECU, how to determine which FOB you should have etc.

Key Fob Replacement 2002 Tundra | Toyota Tundra Forum (tundras.com)

Techstream will indeed allow you to view ser #'s of keyfobs that exist and add/delete fobs installed previously.

My 02 had no security light and it took me a while to program a new fob. I wrote about it on this page of that thread Bubba linked. There are two connectors under the dash that I had to unplug.

Read the posts in there by member Blur. That's what I had to do.
