Howdy, as the title states, my 100 day Carvana warranty is about to expire. I have read many a "what to look for when buying a Tundra" threads, stickies etc. My truck is a 2015 DC SR5 5.7L with 82,000 miles. Well maintained and no cam tower leak. Had it inspected twice, once at the Toyota dealer (where the service writer told me that these trucks don't have a cam tower) and once at a local franchise auto shop. Both inspections said the truck was in great shape and Carvana paid for about $1200 in minor repairs. Brakes and rotors on all four corners, a poorly grounded fog light etc. There is a bit of an oil seep at the timing cover, but the service writer said it wasn't even enough for him to warranty it if the truck still had been in warranty (pic below). Oil level has been steady for the 3k miles I have had it.

As it was fairly easy to get the minor issues corrected and paid for, I am curious if anyone has any tips on weird/easy to miss/anecdotal things I might check to have remedied prior to the warranty expiring?? Kind of odd/atypical things anyone encountered that aren't discussed as normal "Tundra" issues on the site? Basically, I just want to take full advantage of the warranty while I have it. And I am being a bit neurotic.

Additionally, I have been offered an extended "CarvanaCare" warranty for $50 a month for 36 months but I think I am going to decline it given the reliable nature of these trucks. If anyone thinks that is a bad idea, please chime in. The warranty covers basically everything except consumables and cv boots.

Finally, if anyone is curious about my "Carvana Experience" feel free to PM me. Mine was overall just fine. Not amazing but nothing like a lot of the horror stories online.

I'd be a little concerned with the oil leak, It might be nothing now, but could turn into something later. At a minimum, i would clean the shit out of the area and then watch to see what its doing.

Can you stop the $50/mo warranty any time, or are you stuck with it for 36mo?

$50 x 36 = $1800. That cash would cover the cam tower repair from an indie mechanic in case you actually need that repair.

I would also be a little worried about that leak, but I guess I don't know enough about the timing cover leaks (cam towers, on the other hand....). If you do decide to pursue the warranty, make sure you read the fine print. A lot of warranties don't cover "oil leaks", so just be careful.

I can stop it at any time.

Warranty does not cover "Normal Fluid/Oil/Lubricant Seepage"

Warranty does cover: "Sealers/Sealant - Engine" which I assume (dangerous) would cover the RTV used on the cam towers

You can get the warranty cheaper, does not have to be from carvana. If you search, there are thread out here that list contacts for good pricing on extended warranties, if I recall the contact was from one of the Toyota dealers.

I guess you would have to figure out if that's a "normal" seepage.

If they are willing to do repairs, i'd have it fixed.

Thats only if you are still within the 3yr/36000 mile factory warranty.

edit: maybe they have some "out of warranty" but when i talked to her, she mentioned that i had to still be in the factory warranty timeframe to get the toyota platinum care.

THIS. If it is under their warranty and its clear their is an issue I would have it fixed by Carvana if possible. If not I would work with a reputable mechanic to get the issue identified and resolved.

That's what the service writer said. Perhaps a trip to another dealer is in order. I have not been impressed with my local one from the time I was looking at buying new to my most recent inspection.

oil leak, lmao!!! that is slight weeping which is 100% normal. Everyone on this forum must be under 25 years old. Cars up till 1995 leaked puddles and it was normal. why do you think interstates are dark in the middle. oil leaks. dont create a problem that doesnt exist. its a toyota why waste money on a warranty

the oem toyota vsa is only valid on new vehicles under 3/36k. the used oem toyota warranty is only available time of purchase of a used toyota from a toyota dealer (or within 30 days if i remember correctly).

the used warranty only applies to vehicles under 80k and 7-10 yrs old (dont quote me on these numbers, just top of my head). also the period starts from the day purchased and mileage on used vehicles.

the certified warranty usually adds about $1500-$2000 to cost of used vehicle that is sold by a toyota dealer (but you can actually have them remove it to drop the price of the vehicle, depending on dealer). certified warranties are valid for 3/36k from time of purchase/mileage if i remember correctly.
